REPORT ON HARBOUR VIEW’S FEMALE 2004-2005 SEASON

Our season started out with a good result, seeing us defeating two time champions Portmore Strikers, one of the top teams in the competition, 3-0. We played 11 games, with a record of 9 wins and 2 draws, scoring a total of 32 goals with 3 against. The drawn game was against an improved Portmore Strikers side in our return game, and against Mountain View, when we fielded a second string team, after we had already qualified for the semi-finals. Portland Strikers conceded their return game with us.

We won the inaugural Knock-0ut competition, by defeating Rivoli United in a penalty shoot-out, after a highly competitive game, which ended on a score of 2-2 at the end of regulation time. This was the first championship in the history of our female programme.

Our leading goal scorer for the Knock-out competition was Marvette “Betty” Francis with 7 goals, followed by Kimmia Parker and Shakira Duncan, both on 5 goals each.

In the semi-finals of the Sherwin Williams League we defeated Untouchable Strikers in the home and away series. In the first leg played in Montego Bay we won 3-2, and in the return leg played at the Harbour View we won 3-0, with Shakira Duncan scoring all three goals.

We then faced Barbican in the finals. In the first leg we played to a 1-1 draw, and in the second leg, played at the Constant Spring field, we were tied 1-1 after regulation time. In the ensuing extra-time we were eventually defeated 3 goals to 1.

Despite not winning the overall championship, it turned out to be a good season for the team. We made it to all three finals, winning one, and lost the others to Barbican. Next season should see an improved performance from us.

At the awards function the team copped the Fair Play award, and Goalkeeper Paula Jackson won the MVP of the Knock-out finals, she also won a $20,000.00 grant to assist with her education, after acquiring 8 CXC subjects.
