 2001 Season

UNDER 20 SEASON 2001

The new season started off with a fairly new group. Once again the team was made up of players who represented the club last season and those who graduated because of age, up from the under 16 team.  The leadership of Donovan Hayles who led the group to an unprecedented back to back Championship in 1998 and 1999 had ended.

Demotivated because of the organizational problems experienced during the season last year, he was replaced with newly recruited coach Peter Hibbert.  Manager for the last four (4) years, Fitzroy Robinson continued his tenure with the assistance of Technical Director, Gregory Bartley, with special sessions for goalkeepers by Donovan.

Following a few hitches, the pre-season competition got underway with our team doing fairly well throughout -winning four games and losing two (2) . This placed us third, hence not progressing to the next round as only the first two advanced.

Sponsorship was made by Locker Room Sports of twenty (20) pairs of footwear and twenty (20) footballs FREE- in addition to discounted prices for twenty other football boots.  National Commercial Bank gave to the tune of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) and MICROLABS Limited , Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00).  Thank you all.

Our congratulations to reigning Champions Rockfort and Bull Bay who advanced from the zone, as we seek to improve our performance next year.

OUR HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS!!!

In the first game only our National representatives Sean Fraser and Ezra Prendergast played, then had to be involved in the International Tournament CONCACAF WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS alongside our newly transferred player to Paris Saint Germain, Keith Kelly.

Congratulations to our Jamaican team- the young Reggae Boyz - on becoming the third team to qualify for the Under 20 World Cup appearance in Argentina in June 2001.  In particular Sean Fraser and Keith Kelly (leading goalscorer in the tournament with two (2) goals) as our two (2) youngsters who are making it to their second World Cup following their participation at the Under 17 World Cup in New Zealand 1999.
