 UNDER 13 COMPETITION REPORT

The programme got started for Harbour View Football Club in October 2002 on a yearly basis by head coach, Barrington Brown who sad to say left us before the season commenced. Training intensified in January 2003, for the season beginning in June but due to lack of KSAFA Sponsorship it started later in mid August. The players, coaches, managers were disappointed for the late start but were relieved that it wasn’t abandoned totally.

Discipline off the field was on a high; it was transformed onto the field. They followed the coaches instruction to the final whistle. It was a tremendous season for the under 13 team. We started the campaign at home on a good note winning 3-games impressively. The journey had begun. The games that were played away from home were a bit tense but we won them due to guts, character and determination showed by the players, hence allowing them to finish the preliminary round of the competition on top of their zone. We played 8 games winning all scoring 42-goals and conceding 1.

We entered the semi-final round a bit nervous because of injuries to key players and facing the two-time defending champions Meadhaven. The chemistry of the team allowed other members  to rise to the occasion determined to take home the cup. They came out determined to win against the defending champions. It was a game of true character. It ended 1-1 in regulation time, then went into extra time allowing for penalty shoot-out where we prevailed.

Coming into the final game we were confident of victory because we had already met and beaten Tivoli in the preliminary round. The opponents focused on winning but we were hungrier for the cup. A convincing 2-0 victory in regulation time guaranteed lifting the trophy for the very first time.

All in all it was a good season due to the commitment of the players, coaches, parents and well-wishers who supported us throughout the entire season. We hope the same commitment will be given next year when we go to defend the cup.

Congratulations to all involved.
