Harbour View FC Supporter’s Club Flysheet #1 - 2001

Members,

Another season has started and your club is again seeking the best possible deal from our parent club The Harbour View Football Club. We have had discussions with the management of the club and a number of matters have been agreed. Among these are the following:

Season tickets will cost the same as last year $1,800. However the club will be required to pay $2,000 and then have the $200 refunded. So all members who wish to purchase season tickets will have to pay $2,000 up front and the club will reimburse the difference when HVFC reimburses our club.

Those members who paid the additional $300 dollars last year will be refunded the full $200 while those who did not pay will not be refunded.

We will again have access to use the bar area by the Supporter’s Club stand and we need a volunteer to be responsible for the Bar.

All holders of Club passes from last year are required to return those either to a member of our Club executive (Pennycooke, Norwyn, or Sandria) or directly to the secretary in the HVFC office Miss Loraine McLeod. No new Club season pass will be issued to those who fail to return last year’s pass without an acceptable explanation.

For the first home match ONLY, Oct. 14 vs RENO, we will be allowed access to the game without our passes as there was not enough time to advise everyone about the new procedures. Beyond this, members will be required to pay their way if they do not purchase a Club season pass.

We intend to reactivate the month-end social and fish feed. We will advise when the first of these will be held. The HVFC from time to time will arrange a function on the month-end and in those instances we will combine our effort with theirs.

The Supporter’s Club continues to be affected by the lack of involvement by the members. We need to elect a new Executive for this year and we need ALL members to attend when the meeting is called for that purpose. We need to show a more determined level of interest in the affairs of the Supporter’s Club as it belongs to all of us. We also need to expand our membership base. Each member is being asked to recruit at least one new person to become a member of the Supporter’s Club.

Jersey’s are available for all who were registered, paid-up members of the Club last year. The cost remains at $800 and especially at away matches, we are asking members to wear our colours and if practical we should try to sit together so our team can readily see and identify us.

We are looking forward to a successful season and with your support I am sure we will achieve this. For any further information or clarification you may contact any of the following:

WOW!! OUR NEWLY BUILT STADIUM:
Our original special event was the opening of the newly built Stadium in June 1994 for the inaugural Caribbean Professional Football League involving Clubs ( Caledonia AIA) from Trinidad, ( Lambada ) from Barbados, (Cornwall County Lions) from western Jamaica.

Our young team made up of Barrington Gaynor, Onandi Lowe, Tyrone Davis had a promising entry against teams that were primarily National squads. The more experienced pros were severely tested on the field but the real highlight was the widely acclaimed 7,000 seater football stadium- a landmark fixture. It is the first and only one of its kind ,soley owned by a Caribbean Football Club. Special guests included CONCACAF boss Jack Warner, and then JFF Official Horace Burrell who offered all his services as Match Commissary Free of charge as his token of goodwill for the highly publicised new football arena.

Thank you Mr. Carvel Stewart and the CFC Construction Company – Building our dreams on time!

MASTERS,DJs AND CELEBRITIES - OUR FIRST FULL HOUSE !!
They all came to see them, singers, disk jockeys, masters and celebrities from Bunny Wailer to Beenie Man, Bounty Killer to Peter Moses, Mad Cobra to Allan Skill Cole everyone was a “baller” for a day – and the crowd loved it. With the game scheduled for a three o’clock kickoff Promoters the ‘Topless Crew’ had their hands full and all seats were full and then some overflowed onto the inner field area, a novel event at the time. Patrons came miles to see all the names they heard of but never believed could play football, well the jury is still out. Photos galore, girls laughing at the ‘skills’ of entertainers, gazing at stars alive in the flesh, goals, sun, fun, new environment, music. Did I say football, lots of it.

OUR COMPETITIONS – LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL:
The reigning Premier League Champions must look and perform as such. Our stadium is the first sign of extraordinary achievement, the palace where the kings play. We take this deadly serious. For the first time in our history on the 28th March , 2000 we became the National Premier League Champions after 26 years under Coach Peter Cargill. Along the way, our stadium hosted the semifinals games- another first by any Club grounds in Kingston. Champions of Jamaica soon became Champions of Caribbean as Western Union Supercup was achieved in October in the Cayman Islands, but a greater prize loomed. On October 29th to November 2nd, 2001 we staged the CONCACAF Caribbean Preliminary Zone which we handsomely defeated Violette Champions of Haiti 5-0, Paradise F.C. Champions of Barbados 2-0 and Roots Alley Ballers Champions of St. Lucia 3-0. We advanced to the finals in Trinidad December finishing second to Joe Public of Trinidad.

At the end of August 1996 we ventured into this new realm, what a success! The group of Kwani’s who assisted us like us could not believe the overwhelming response we drew in addition to the trouble free event that had satisfied patrons in ecstasy as they filed out after midnight on the Friday, oops! Saturday morning. The entire club was involved Executives, Managers, Coaches, Players – male and female , supporters and community residents who reacted positively to our house-to-house walk in the community to promote and sell the tickets.

We have repeated our Bingo twice since then our most recent being in September 2000.

LABOUR DAY COMMUNITY FAIR & FOOTBALL EXTRAVAGANZA:
In the late 60’s and 70’s a fair was always kept at the Harbour View Primary School but disappeared soon after. Well guest what, its back!! Since 1997 the Club has organized along with willing schools, churches and community groups each year to hold the event in celebration of our youngsters in Harbour View and surrounding communities. Ferris wheel, Merry go round, Bounce-a-bouts, Donkey Cart Ride, Clowns, many games of Chance, Stalls of any Food kind ,Snacks, Music and last year the addition of a Concert at the end. The female team in 1998 held a community Concert and this now refashioned itself to make it one big event. The kids and not so ‘young’ kids, had a fully exhausted day, the Football Tournament made up as usual of six corner league teams within the community was a great triumph with the finals at about 5pm drawing the attraction temporarily away from the fair grounds of Plum Tree Gardens. Thanks to all who participated. See you again on Wednesday May 23rd, 9am.
ANNUAL CLUB PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY:
In June 1999 the Club had its first general Prize giving ceremony including all seven teams who has the responsibility to choose the outstanding players, get prizes and presents to each winner on this occasion of public visibility. The initial function was kept on the field where all teams were seated and invitations extended to parents, friends and supporters, the second June 2000 was staged atop of our players VIP Area under the moonlight skies to a backdrop of continuous appplause from the Clubs Family Members. A beautiful setting where the entire club representatives comes together annually to say “Well done’ to each other is a joy to behold.
EASTERN CONSIOUSNESS UPRISING and STARTIME OLDIES STAGE SHOWS:
Our attempts to bring a wider cross-section of the Entertainment sector succeeded in the high quality of the shows but not yet profitable. Led by Grammy Award Winners Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers the ‘Royal’ musical family members performed for free,

Professionally with others such as Luciano, Admiral Bailey and Dean Fraser to a small appreciative crowd. Led by Leroy Sibbles of the Heptones fame, Ken Boothe ‘Mr. Rocksteady’, Carl Dawkins ‘Mr. Satisfaction’ and the dynamic Tamlins all pleased the audience behind the lively emcee skills of community class act of Ossie ‘D’ Douglas.

Good vibes flowed sweetly, Thanks to Stevie Golding, Allah Lloyd and Curtis Simon in particular from the Club and all the Artistes who gave their considerable Talent FREE or at discounted rates.
