A
rejuvenated bunch has started training once weekly since
November 2000 on Saturday mornings at 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
with great enthusiasm. “Enjoying the later years in an
organised way” is the new energy guiding the elders.
The
new season started in May, a new dimension of becoming more
leadership oriented within the club framework was chosen.
Our first task to organise a community door to door
walk, Saturday, January 20th was a day in which all
other club teams were mobilised to trek with us door to door
on both sides of the river, Caribbean Terrace, Copley Drive
and up into the new housing schemes in the hills both sides of
the river.
Armed
with giveaways from sponsors Jamaica Biscuit Company,
Snickers, M & M’s, Skittles, Western Union, Bill
Express, Craven “A” and Jamaica National Building Society
who actually had four (4) representatives walk with us, loud
speaker equipped card, discounted HVFC match-day vouchers,
raffle tickets and good vibes made for a successful
interaction between Club and Community.
An annual calendar event at the end of January is now
confirmed. A big THANK
YOU to all who participated.
Buoyed
by the early success, another venture was planned for Easter -this being a six-a-side tournament to be launched on Saturday,
March 31st 2001.
The first of its kind to be staged by HVFC in
association with LOCKER ROOM SPORTS LIMITED, under the
branding of KELME Spanish Sportswear, the first of seven (7)
annual tournaments designed to be staged four (4) to six (6)
weeks before established age group competitions, such as Under
13, 15, 17, 21, Premier/”A” League/Major League and
Masters.
The
inaugural contest has a first prize of a Gift Certificate
value $30,000.00 of sportswear from KELME as well as
individual prizes. Additional
sponsors are being sought for all twelve (12) teams involved.
Entry to specially selected groups is being processed.

with entry fee of $8,000.00 to the HVFC office at the Stadium.

for the Jamaica versus Trinidad WORLD CUP game.
