2005 REPORT: HARBOUR VIEW MASTERS
(2 Photos to come later) Front row (left to right):

Harbour View Football Club, boosting the largest contingent of players of any team in the 2005 NCB capital Markets-KSAMLA Masters League, did quite well in emerging from Group “A” (The Group of Death) to reach the Super 9 phase of the competition, and to finish a respectable 8th in the over-all standings.

Group “A” was regarded as the toughest of all the groups because it had such formidable teams like champions Shortwood, three time champions Thunderbolts, a Hugh “Bingy” Blair led Waterhouse, 1990 champions Real Mona, perennial contenders Pelicans, Maxfield, Telecom Strikers, and of course, The Stars from the East.

For the 2005 season, Harbour View Masters played 15 games, won 6, lost 8, and drew 1, and they scored 15 goals in amassing a total of 15 points.

The season started eventfully for Harbour View. In their first game against Pelicans at the Compound, Harbour View seemed on their way to a 0-1 defeat when the heavens opened-up with pelting rains forcing the referee to abandon the game with seven minutes to go.

Pelicans argued for the game to be replayed from its point of interruption, but KSAMLA, citing FIFA’s Laws of the Game, ruled that the game should be replayed in its entirety. Harbour View utilized their good fortune by defeating Pelicans in the replay 2-1, and went on to finish 3rd in the “Group of Death”. In the Super 9 competition, Harbour View won 2 games while loosing 6.

Harbour View’s contribution to the League was also significant off the field as KSAMLA’s President, Ian McNaughton, and Vice President, Errol McDonald are both members of Harbour View Football Club.

Under Ian McNaughton’s leadership, the Masters League was able to procure sponsorship from NCB Capital Markets in the amount of $780,000 for the 2005 season. Mr. McNaughton instituted changes to the format of the League such as bringing the competition closer to being an Over-40 League with the requirement that each team could only have 4 players under 40 but over 35 on the field during play. A Mid-Season final was also introduced where the teams played for the Peter Cargill Cup. Mr. Cargill was a former Harbour View coach and player.

Ian McNaughton, KSAMLA’s President Among Harbour View’s squad of players are former Jamaica national players like Donnovan “DV” Hayles, the present coach of Harbour View’s senior team, and Andrew “Bowa” Hines.
