ALL PREMIER LEAGUE GAMES
RESHEDULED AS RAINS CONTINUE ON SUNDAY: |
All games scheduled to be
played on Sunday September 22nd were postponed to a date to be
announced as the meteorological office predicts the inclement
weather would persist, making the already soggy fields
unplayable. The games were called off late Saturday afternoon
as some clubs had to make arrangements to travel overnight.
The league resumes on Wednesday with games rescheduled from
last Wednesday September 18th – when Harbour View travels to
Constant Spring.

HARBOUR VIEW
SLIPS AT HOME TO HAZARD |
|
Harbour View failed to hold on to
its early form after defeating Seba in stark contrast to
Hazard who lost at home to Premier League debutants Bull Bay,
then being further penalised by defender Claude Davis who was
fined
$3,000 and suspended for three
games. It did not stop there. Two managers were fined in
addition to the club being further subjected to the new ruling
of losing by a 3-0 scoreline. Well coach Lenworth Hyde turned
adversity into motivation and his team sprung back to life
with a disciplined team performance based on counter-attacking
surges through midfield. The first blow struck in minute 39 by
Trevino Porter bursting down the centre amidst two defenders
to strike past goalkeeper Leroy Grey to lead 1-0 at halftime.
The game was primarily a
midfield tussle with Jermaine Hue, Daniel Shaw supported by
Baris Johnson battling the speed, skill and coordination of
Omar Daley, Loxely Thomas and “axeman” Kevin Williams. But the
difference came in the top end when last season’s leading
goalscorer Reon Nelson latched onto a loose ball in the area
to tap into a empty net , 2-0 at 51 minutes. Fabian Taylor
responded with a header past Sawyers in goal only to be ruled
offside soon after; this was the order of the day despite many
raids by the homesters.
The Under 21 game between both
teams played the day before ended in a 2-2 scoreline.

HAITI DEFEATS JAMAICA
UNDER 20s IN WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS FIRST LEG
|
The
young Haitians gave a spirited performance of hard running off
the ball coupled with good ball skills and sharp finishing in
the first 45 minutes to lead 2-0 at the break . Jamaica’s
Richard West scored immediately upon the resumption, at the
46th minute from a melee in the goal area but this was not
enough of an offensive thrust to thwart the early strikes of
Kelly Jean-Rood (12th minute) alongside Max Louis (36th
minute). The sharper team movement in attack and possession by
Haiti gave signs of class as they overran the disorganised
looking Jamaican unit which showed more ascendancy in the
second half with the introduction of French based midfielder
Keith Kelly aided by Christopher McCrea. Coach Downswell
remains optimistic of his charges on the return game in Haiti
if Kelly could be there earlier plus Sheldon Battiste and
England based Cleveland Taylor to get the two goals needed to
qualify with a victory.
