Harbour View Football Club energises Drax Hall in St. Ann's Charity Games!

HVFC Females versus Under 15 Boys:

A football festival that started at 2pm because of the early afternoon rains delayed the kickoff with the all-island Female League and Knockout Champions Harbour View tackling a very energetic Under 15 Boys team from the parish and giving them a stern test.

Shakira Duncan missed a header from 4 yards while a stunning freekick from Kimmia Parker whistled past the upright to scare the youngsters into launching a counter offensive.

A scorching right footer from distance was a bit too much for goalkeeper Paula Jackson as it went in from off the crossbar onto her back. Another torrid strike from inside the area dipped inside the far post to make it 2-0 before Parker got one back for the girls from the penalty spot.

The final goal was from the young boys in the second half as the pure strength came to the fore to win 3-1, as the girls got well prepared for the June opening of  the competition.

HVFC Masters versus Reggae Radio IRIE FM Ballers:

Radio Sports personalities Robert Williams, Courtney and Nicholas Evans paraded their skills along with parish stalwarts against the over 35 years past Masters of Harbour View lead by Captain, Dominique Spaulding, Neil Stewart, Andrew Williams, Micheal and Winston McIntosh, John Massey, Robert Cross and Ian McNaughton among others.

Both teams traded attacks until Deton Simpson evaded his marker to score then the Irie FM team equalised early in the second half. Ian Burnett again grabbed the lead for Harbour View but a quick shot from within the crowded area eluded goalkeeper Paul Tyson for the game to end 2-2.

Premier League Champs outclass St. Ann All-Stars:

7-1, says it all.

Clearly superior to the under exposed parisheners the Champions marched all over the opposition with neat combinations, passes and off the ball assuredness to run riot from start to finish as goals were scored with regularity by Nicholas Dodd, Gregg Taylor, Rafiek Thomas, Kemar Petrekin, Michily Waul and Anthony Christie.

The smaller than expected crowd enjoyed every minute as the rain kept the larger attendants at home mainly in Ocho Rios and nearby townships as the muddy exterior passageways discouraged patronage but never dampened the spirits of all in attendance.

Good fun was had by all and plans of a quick repeat was requested by the promoters and fans from the "Garden Parish" of St. Ann.

NEW CHAMPIONS HARBOUR VIEW EXACTS A 2-1 REVENGE AGAINST RENO AT FROME AS THE “TWIN STRIKERS” HIT A DOUBLE TO FINISH IN GLORY!

File Photo: Second End-of-Round Final at STETHS, Rafique Thomas getting by is marker

Fabian Taylor’s glancing header struck from a Oniel Smith left sided corner in the 25th minute before he returned in the 48th minute to weave his way past two defenders to slap his scorching left-footer on goal.

National Under 23 goalkeeper Dwayne Kerr was good enough to block but not save Kavin Bryan’s follow through from 7 yards that rifled into the roof of the net as he celebrated being the leagues leading goalscorer for all of 14 minutes before Irvino English scored to clinch the coveted “Golden Boots” prize with 18 goals, one more than Bryan’s 17 goal tally.

Fabian Taylor remained third on 15 goals as Reno’s Ricardo Scott ended fourth with 13 goals. In a game that was competitive from start to finish both teams fought gallantly to eek out a psychological victory in a seasonal series that recorded 2-1 at Harbour View then 1-2 at STETHS, followed by a 0-1 120th minute tie-breaker in the End of Second Round Final again at STETHS before the Reno teams challenge for the title faded badly in the Third Round.

The final frontier was set for a dramatic all-or-nothing title decider as the last stance fizzled to a “Grudge Match” only as the “Stars of the East” rapped up the title chase some three rounds ago and collected the trophy.

A massive “Curry Festival” at the Mannings High School just down the road robbed the game of a fitting audience but the match lived up to the top of the table billing announced that all but proved the class of both outfits, as both coaches echoed in the post game interviews.

The season ended, a long journey home was greeted with smiles of relief and joy of victory turns into relaxation before other engagements call. Congratulations all… you are worthy Champions!

TWIN STRIKERS KAVIN BRYAN AND FABIAN TAYLOR SCORES TWICE TO BLANK RELEGATED BOUND WADADAH BY 4-0 AT THE COMPOUND!!!!

Kavin Bryan Fabian Taylor

As if they were working in-sync the two National strikers shared equally the goal scoring tally to keep themselves within striking distance of the coveted leading goalscorers prize.

Fabian Taylor struck first from inside the penalty area after 21 minutes to be quickly followed by Kavin Bryan in the 34th as they inched up to goals numbering 13 and 15 respectively at the halftime. Wadadah having reconciled themselves to relegation traveled with only 11 players and seemingly surrendered winning the game before it began but committed to not taking a mauling the worked tirelessly throughout the 90 minutes to retain some measure of pride.

Captain Daniel Ricketts showed the way with intermittent spurts of skill mixed with sly passes and two deadly freekicks goal-bound. Even with no less than six changes to the regular starting line-up the superior team-work overwhelmed the boys from Montego Bay and should have scored many more despite a hatrick of good saves from the goalkeeper.

The resumption following the interval was the high point as a minute gone on the clock Bryan raced into the area to slam into the far corner then Taylor matched his feat by pivoting to hit the upper right hand corner of the goal from 15 yards in the 61st minute.

4-0 the game would end, despite the many other missed opportunities as the game fell away from the original concept to score heavily while supporting both marksmen and even Lovel Palmer’s delayed entry could not increase the scoreline later on.

The only game outstanding is the “grudge match” against Reno at Frome on Sunday, April 29th, 2007 when the league comes to an end.

OTHER RESULTS:

  • Portmore United 1 Boy’s Town 0
  • Village United 3 Reno 0
  • August Town 3 Waterhouse 2

HARBOUR VIEW FOOTBALL CLUB CELEBRATES NEW TITLE AS THE PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2006 -07!!

With a resounding 3-0 victory over Village United at the Compound.

Captain Lovel Palmer receiving the 2006-2007 Premier League Trophy from  JFF President Crenston Boxhill, KSAFA President Stewart Stephenson and the league Sponsors Wray and Nephew

The Stars of the East” march to the celebratory podium was delayed by the organized teamwork of Trelawny’s pacesetters Village United up to the 37th minute when Jermaine Hue latched on to a 40 yards searching diagonal pass from Christopher Harvey. He swerved inside away from his marker before unleashing an accurate right footed shot into the far post, kissing the under side of the crossbar on its way in.

He celebrated with a smile his first goal since his return this season. Kavin Bryan soon pitched in when he worked his way into the penalty area on the right leaving his tracking defender on the seat of his pants when he turned. Drawn suddenly into covering duties the central defender approached with caution which was what Bryan needed to dart away from him as he released a thunderous shot past goalkeeper Elvis Hart to bulge the net behind him on the stroke of halftime for the Champions to lead 2-0 at the break.

Superiority now established, the smooth flow of possesional football was the order of the day as Hart denied many efforts goal-ward especially Richard Edwards’s two pile-drivers from distance and Fabian Taylor’s bullet like intention but it would be Bryan’s 90th minute initiative that would pierce the defense.

Bryan ran across the face of the defensive wall as Hue approach in another dribble, slipping the pass between the opponents legs into his path as he changed feet in mid-stream of his control to blast in with his left foot before the custodian adjusted to close the contest 3-0, while taking his goal-scoring tally to 14 and keep challenging for the coveted “Golden Boot” as the leagues leading marksman.

The Live Televised game extended its coverage to include the presentation of the trophy on centre-stage with the league Sponsors Wray and Nephew, JFF President Crenston Boxhill, KSAFA President Stewart Stephenson and our President Sydney Masters to Captain, Lovel Palmer and his teammates, Coaches and Managers and of course the adoring fans.

The inflated tunnel heralded the triumphant entry onto the constructed stage with sponsors banners and flags as the backdrop where hundreds of blue and gold balloons were released with confetti blown skywards as the trophy was received. Champagne corks popped continually as the sprays we interspersed with the sips of celebration as the new Champions accepted the club designed special HVFC Branded T-Shirts and Caps as smiles flashed everywhere and the photographers went wild clicking every moment of history.

Xzibit Crew cranked up the music as the party moved of the field to the recreation area close by as community deejays held centre-stage momentarily before dancing geniuses took over and all and sundry got into the fun until late in the night as the community washed away the bad memories of yesteryear and welcomed a new championship era.

On Wednesday, Harbour View has its final home game against Wadadah at 6:30pm.

OTHER RESULTS:

  • Portmore United 3 August Town 1
  • Arnett Gardens 3 Seba United 2

HARBOUR VIEW ARE CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF THE 2006-07 PREMIER LEAGUE AFTER DRAWING 1-1 WITH NAGGO HEAD!

Captain of Harbour View Lovel Palmer (right) controls the ball under pressure from Andrew Bravos of Naggo's Head  (Photo: Garfield Robinson)

An afternoon that promised a new Champion belatedly crown the “Stars of the East” not in their clash with relegated bound Naggo Head but in a strange twist of faith, when dethroned Champions Waterhouse scored against second placed Portmore United, with only nine minutes left in the late game at Drewsland.

Eleven points separates the leaders but with Portmore United faltering in their fourth consecutive drawn game (0-0,2-2,2-2-1-1) effectively put themselves out of the running for the title (on 55 points) and have to be more productive in securing a few victories in the last three games less they are also bypassed by the lurking Reno FC who are on 53 points and challenging for a place in the CFU Caribbean Club Championship.

Harbour View by virtue of the results of today’s games have assumed an unassailable lead of 10 points with only a best possible 9 points on claim, this sparked a spontaneous celebration by the players glued to the Live Radio Broadcast at the Club.

Horns started tooting, banging on signboards, shouts, cries and screams were bellowed from the greatest heights as relief was achieved and finally, finally we exhaled after the trauma of last years poor finish.

The Xzibit crew cranked up the disco as wild dancing erupted on the dance-floor, players, coaches, managers and executives were severely doused with water as liquor flowed sweetly, smiles adorned the faces of the many long suffering fans, media personalities and supporters as TVJ filmed every active moment of it inclusive of interviews.

At midnight the crowd slowly started treking home as the party is to be continued in earnest on Sunday as the Live TV home game against Trelawny’s Village United where an official presentation of the Premier League Trophy, Medals and the necessary pomp and pageantry that accompanies it.

Captain, Lovel Palmer robbed the defender of the ball before eluding the goalkeeper with a neat chip to score the all important first goal after 30 minutes.

Kenardo Forbes slipped his marker to bury his scorcher at the near post from just inside the area with 72 minutes elapsed on the clock.  Harbour View totally dominated the second half but missed many opportunities to score as anxiety determined failure to convert. When we did convert twice both were disallowed even as the Television replays displayed perfect timing of the final run of  Lovel Palmer.

Kavin Bryan and Jermaine Hue came closest twice as they beat the defence and shot onto the upright as well as headed just over the bar while Fabian Taylor’s goal-bound shot was clearly handled inside the penalty area but no penalty was awarded.

Sometimes destiny overpowers efforts and as we congratulate Coach, Wayne Fairclough who prepared his troops to fight to the very end.

The slightly off-beat tempo of the new Champions reflected the pressure of the moment across the league as four out of five games ended in draws as only Boy’s Town notched a 3-1 victory over neighbours Arnett Gardens.

Preparations for celebration takes the order of the day while a new disciplined dimension comes into effect in the next three games. These including Village United and Wadadah at home on Sunday and Wednesday respectively followed by the much awaited grudge match against Reno at St. Elizabeth Technical High School on Sunday, April 29th, 2007 to end the season on a high.

OTHER RESULTS:

  • Boy’s Town 3 Arnett Gardens 1
  • Waterhouse 1 Portmore United 1
  • August Town 0 Tivoli Gardens 0
  • Seba United 0 Reno 0

HARBOUR VIEW OUTCLASSES SEBA UNITED TO SCORE AN ALL IMPORTANT 5-0 TITLE CLAIMING VICTORY!!

Kavin “Titaldinho” Bryan twisting is way past the Seba defense to score his first of two goals

Kavin Bryan stuns the opposition with two telling strikes.

Kavin “Titaldinho” Bryan struck a double blow to the Montego Bay campaigners Seba United in the second half as his National strike partner Fabian Taylor scored in between both goals to set up a resounding victory.

Both strikers stake their claim to being the joint leading goalscorers on twelve (12) goals tied with Reno’s Ricardo Scott with four rounds of games outstanding.

The “Stars of the East” bolted in front from as early as the ninth (9) minute when Jermaine Hue slipped a neat pass outside to left back Ricardo Smith whose high floated square found the arriving instep of Kemeel Wolfe on sixteen yards from goal and his one-time volley lodged inside the far post.

The rampaging force was not to be contained all afternoon as the league leaders marched forward with purpose continually until Hue’s floated freekick found the chest of Wolfe in a well timed move, who was  then bundled over in the penalty box after at the half hour mark. Christopher Harvey struck a fierce drive against the bulging nylon to make it 2-0.

The first half completed the marauding hosts went into high gear on the news that second place Portmore United were stumbled in a draw by relegation bound Wadadah hence extending our lead to 10 points with four games to be played. The “Stars of the East”  launched into the over-drive as Bryan turned, twisted and then blasted a left footed drive into the roof of  the net in the 64th minute before hitman Taylor turned his marker about the penalty spot to slam home four minutes later.

Other Goal Scorers:
Christopher Harvey

Fabian Taylor

Kemeel Wolfe

The dominance increased even as the Seba aggregation vastly improved their attacking play but could not contain the leagues most lethal attacking force and succumbed to another wave of attacks when Bryan doubled his tally in the 89th minute by out sprinting a defender and placing it out of reach of the advancing custodian.

On Wednesday we play away to last place Naggo Head at Barbican where the title could be confirmed depending on our results and the big top of the table clash between second place Portmore United and the dethroned champions Waterhouse.

We return home next Sunday against Village United where the new league Champion will definitely be crowned.

Under 21:

Harbour View with strikes in each half defeated Seba United by 2-1 to retain their fourth place.

OTHER RESULTS:

  • Portmore United 2 Wadadah 2
  • Reno 3 Boy’s Town 1
  • Tivoli Gardens 1 Waterhouse 0

HARBOUR VIEW EXACTS REVENGE AGAINST BOY’S TOWN AS A DOUBLE BLOW LEAVES THE “COLOUR RED” SINGING THE “BLUES”!

Fabian Taylor working is way pass a Boy's Town defender in the recent Jackie Bell Knockout Final

In last year’s Premiership run in the third round, it was Boy’s Town 1-0 victory over us at a similar stage that assisted Waterhouse to pass and eventually win the league. Would we repeat that scenario or were we going to rewrite the script to suit ourselves?  Different day, different story.

National Captain, Donald “Foulie” Stewart shook the goal-scoring “monkey of his back” in the 20th  minutes as he spun around to his great surprise to kick home the seemingly waiting ball that practically fell at his feet.

When Xavien Virgo pulled Kavin Bryan to the ground, Jermaine Hue took the awarded freekick which  Fabian Taylor had headed goalwards but succeeded only in hitting Stewart’s back six yards from goal. He graciously welcomed the gift of a goal, while slamming home with his right foot to notch only his second for the season.

Boy’s Town seemed a bit weary following the exhausting Knockout Final lost on Sunday lasting more than two hours, facing an opposition of the calibre of league leaders Harbour View was not at the top of their “Most Wanted” list.

The ”Stars of the East” were in no mood for sympathy as they stroked the ball effortlessly across the well manicured park with authority that belies a champion. Kemeel Wolfe made the attacking moves while Richard Edwards and Jermaine Hue complimented with periodic through balls as the strong cross-field wind factor was causing much concern to the continuity of possession meant to penetrate a steely defensive line.

Byran created runs upfront but was cut down regularly by brutal tackles, punches and blocks that were reduced after the first goal followed one such. Hue shot into the side netting early into the game as Wolfe came closest with a gentle side-footed effort following a methodical construction, he then blasted high soon after. Not to be outdone Taylor curled his attempt just wide as the goalkeeper Philmore Crumbie advanced.

Halftime score: 0-1.

Boy’s Town playing true to form, pushed forward with numbers at the beginning of the second half winning three consecutive corners in a prolonged attack but at last still no goal.  Another Bryan dribble, another infringement just outside the area, another goal results after 67 minutes as Fabian Taylor curls the fierce shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the goal as Crumbie dives in vain left hand grasping at thin air.

Substitutes Rafiek Thomas, Richard West, and Loxely Thomas comes in as replacements for Taylor, Bryan and Wolfe however the LIVE Televised game produces some more dramatic moments only devoid of goals as it ends 0-2.

Harbour View advances to 61 points and gains a eight point lead with five games remaining in the league as the three closest Clubs stumble in the attempt to keep up.

OTHER RESULTS:

  • Tivoli Gardens 2 Portmore United 2
  • August Town 1 Reno 0
  • Arnett Gardens 0 Waterhouse 0
  • Naggo Head 4 Wadadah 3

The game between Village United and Seba United will be played tomorrow Thursday, April 12th, 2007 at Catherine’s Hall in Montego Bay.

On Sunday, April 15th Harbour View FC hosts Seba United at Home in a LIVE Televised Game at 3:30pm, this follows the Under 21 game at 1pm.

Fabian Taylor’s magnificent strike lead ten man Harbour View to a 1-1 draw

Jermaine Hue making his way around a Portmore Defender

Fabian Taylor’s magnificent strike lead ten man Harbour View to a 1-1 draw against second place team Portmore United at the Compound.

With the rescheduled game being the only game played the afternoon was heavily promoted as the league decider as six points separated both Clubs with only six games left to be played over the last month of competition.

The 84th minute thunderbolt shock the very core of the football foundation to exact a telling blow in favour of the Premier League leaders in a top of the tables clash that lived up to all expectations under persistent showers after 30 minutes into the game.

Even the showers of blessing paused momentarily that allowed the packed house to come out from every single area of cover, peeping constantly having to shelter from the late evenings downpour as the skies opened.

The “Stars of the East” were well prepared to shine brightest under any condition. What they were about to witness was heaven sent as another time-wasting motive of stopping one of the many advances by Harbour View’s defender Christopher Harvey at the halfline resulted in an anger-filled freekick. He hustled Ryan Powell, one of two late defensive substitutes away from the ball with an almighty shove before being spoken to harshly by duty official Courtney Campbell who was having a less than impressive FIFA approved quality game.

Anger was channeled into precision when Harvey floated his diagonal 30 yards kick as rehearsed onto the broad awaiting chest of substitute striker, Gregg Taylor who plays it gently into the path of striker Fabian Taylor who delivers a superb one-time right footed volley of magnificent proportions into the back of the net from 20 yards.

Absolutely stunning… as even National Coach, “Bora” Mulitinovic managed to express an approving smile from the stands.  An explosive response from the partisan Harbour View crowd soon erupted into a frenzy lead by flag-bearer Buxton who ran the full length of the inner field with the 20 foot Harbour View FC banner followed by his “sidekick” with the waving HVFC Flag.

Taylor ceased the moment and rushed to the supporters, with teammates in toe and were simply gobbled up in glee, plus celebration tinged with a sense of relief.

Earlier the persistent off the ball fouls went unattended once too often and captain Lovel Palmer reacted violently in centre-field to be ejected in minute 65 giving visitors Portmore a one man advantage.

Before they had rushed into the lead with 48 minutes gone, when Carlington Smith neatly tucked away a goal from 13 yards following a sweeping 6 man ball possession movement that seemed to lull Harbour View players into conceding critical space.

Up 1-0, plus only ten men in opposition the men from Portmore smiled openly as discussions of a mission statement rang out in the stands, apparently in high expectation of perhaps repeating the late surge by Waterhouse executed to perfection against Harbour View last season. It was not to be as that miracle had happened once and lighting was not about to strike in the same place twice.  Enter the firm of Harvey, Taylor and Taylor…end of that game.

HARBOUR VIEW SCORES ONCE IN EACH HALF TO DEFEAT AUGUST TOWN BY 2-0 AT THE COMPOUND

Under 21:

Harbour View FC 1 August Town 0.

Midfielder Anthony Christie scored in the 78th minute by finishing off a well constructed five man ball movement from the left-back position diagonally to the edge of the penalty area on the right as Christie skillfully outfoxed the advancing goalkeeper to convert.

Premier League:

Harbour View FC 2 August Town 0.

Harbour View striker Fabian Taylor getting by an August Town defender

A combative looking August Town came out to fight for every ball tactically and more surprisingly with  added physical verve that many times bordered on being vicious particularly by ex-Harbour View aspirant Kadian Lecky.

Daniel Shaw’s trademark shot from distance was the high point of the early exchanges in favour of August Town but Dwayne Miller tipped it over the crossbar for a corner that failed to result in any further danger.

Superior possession made hosts Harbour View gain the advantage thereafter leading to an infringement against Kavin Bryan just outside the area, approximately 20 yards on the left. Oniel Smith’s free-kick was neatly floated into the box as it was headed on at the near post for central defender Christopher Harvey who came forward for the kick, to head in just before it crossed the line inside the far post after 22 minutes.

Constant attempts to breakdown the visitors defenses failed to penetrate the final bastion only as the “Stars of the East” probe and taunted but could not pierce the breaches before the half ended, 1-0.

It would have to happen much later into the game, when on minute 86 a long punt upfield from goalkeeper Dwayne Miller was well controlled by Fabian Taylor with his back to goal he pivoted and struck fiercely on the volley when he turned to soundly defeat the bewildered goalkeeper, Damion Campbell in the 86th minute and close off the game despite August Town throwing their numbers into attacks.

On Wednesday, April 4th, 2007 at 7pm Harbour View FC plays against Portmore United at Harbour View stadium in a top of the table encounter in the only outstanding game is rescheduled.

OTHER RESULTS:

  • Village United 0 Boy’s Town 0
  • Naggo Head 0 Seba United 0
  • Portmore United 1 Arnett Gardens 0
  • Reno 2 Waterhouse 1

HARBOUR VIEW PLAYS TO 0-0 DRAW AT WATERHOUSE!

On a damp soggy pitch both league front-runner slugged it out to a grinding scoreless scoreline.

The result meant that Harbour View remained on top of the league with 54 points, six ahead of Portmore United on 48 after defeating Reno who slipped to third on 46 points, while Waterhouse are fourth with 43.

Waterhouse packed there midfield to gain an advantage in possession but went no further as a loney figure of Jomo Gordon worked overtime all evening but no penetration was achieved despite holding the upper hand throughout.

Gordon's questionable break away was thwarted by the alert Dwayne Miller in goal midway the first half. Three of Irvino English's favoured left-footed efforts from various angles were also competently blocked by Miller with the ease of an accomplished campaigner.

As Jermaine Taylor was a standout in defense there was not the usual sharp coordination in attack by National striker pair of Fabian Taylor and Kavin Bryan as Lovel Palmer appeared intermittently but it was attacking without conviction.

A smaller than average Waterhouse home crowd was evident and the game wore itself out as the FIFA Referee Howard Stennett ended the stalemate.

On Sunday, April 1st Harbour View plays against August Town at the Compound at 4 and 6:30pm.

HARBOUR VIEW CONTINUES POSITIVE THIRD ROUND START BY DEFEATING TIVOLI 3-1!

Kavin Bryan in a struggle to get by two Tivoli Defenders

A most professional display by the "Stars of the East" distanced themselves from the main rival this season, Tivoli Gardens at the Railway Oval today.

Live Television was the perfect setting for the league leaders to carve out what was a near perfect performance against the Team that had defeated us twice this season by wide margins of 4-0 and then 3-0, just two weeks ago at the Compound.

Revenge is best served cold...it was a chilly atmosphere at the Edward Seaga Complex today as the Harbour View team came with one sole purpose...three points!  After earlier this week inflicting a significant victory over Tivoli at their home ground by 1-0 in the return leg of the Red Stripe Champions Cup Quarterfinal courtesy of Lovel Palmer's 53rd minute strike, as we existed that competition by 3-1.

It was twice as hard and a bigger bitter pill to swallow, when four days later we returned to the same scene to once again leave the Tivolities dumb-struck. They wondered out of their home venue miserably grumbling how we snatched victory on Wednesday only to again commit the unthinkable act by a greater margin in the most defiant style.

It began early in the first half when Christopher Harvey collected a ball all alone at the far post from Oniel Smith's left-sided corner kick which was mis-kicked, to slam home from 6 yards. 1-0 at the break, Tivoli started busiest and drew level when the injured leftback Gregory Simpson was replaced at the interval by Ricardo Smith. Smith not yet into the pace of the game was outsprinted by Heron who squared well but our young goalkeeper Marvin Mundy could only deflect into the path of Jermaine Taylor at the far post who converted from a well placed shot back across the goal to equalise 1-1 after 49 minutes.

The class of the "Stars of the East" shun through the maze quickly as Richard Edwards slick ground pass released Lovel Palmer on the left flank to cross perfectly for the patient Kemeel Wolfe who timed his strike back into the goal's opposite side immediately to silence the crowd in the 63rd minute.

The goal of the game would follow as a five pass sequence flowed from Oniel Smith down the rightside to Wolfe then Fabian Taylor who turned inside the heavily trafficked area and made his own space delicately.  Nothing could have prepared the goalkeeper for the thunderous curling shot that would fly magnificently past his outstretched grasping right hand as it caressed the nylon netting behind him as he fell flat on his back, defeated by a stroke of sheer brilliance.

The television cameras replayed it from all three angles as if dazed by it magnificence and in no frame did the custodian have a ghost-of-a -chance to effect a save.  Outclassed by brilliance, the twin towers of stability firstly Clifton Waugh and then Donald Stewart were relieved of their duties as Jermaine Taylor returning from a bout of the Flu and then Jermaine Hue added to the high calibre game now established.

Central Defender, Taylor quickly assumed a leadership role at the back alongside the now rock-solid Harvey and his namesake Hue trying to recover his best form orchestrated the attacking maneuvers going forward as Coach, Lennie Hyde seemed to modify his tactics.

Kavin Bryan and Fabian Taylor never eased the attacking pressure as Bryan once again beat the defenders but shot wide. Oniel Smith's freekick was skimming just wide of the left upright while Hue's cheeky 43 yards drive had the goalkeeper totally beaten but it drifted just wide of the right upright.

Unfortunately indiscretion got the better of valour, as their was still time for a Tivoli midfielder to be ejected for violent conduct against Richard Edwards, as the game came to an end signaled by Howard Stennett after 4 minutes of time added on.

Harbour View 3 Tivoli Gardens 1.

HARBOUR VIEW STARTS THIRD ROUND FIXTURES POSITIVELY BY TROUNCING ARNETT GARDENS 4-0 AT THE COMPOUND!

Two goals in each half was more than enough for the former Champions!

Kavin Bryan Fabian Taylor

The focus was back from as early as the game started, as the more assertive looking “Stars of the East” went swiftly for the juggler.

Captain, Lovel Palmer pounced on the rebound from Kavin Bryan’s shot which custodian Julian McLeish failed to hold onto and tapped home inside the six yards box after just nine minutes. Then when Richard Edwards released Palmer down the right flank he crossed to the waiting chest of Fabian Taylor to guide unmolested over the line at the back post in the 24th minute.  More ominous signs appeared frequently throughout the half that gave the impression the Arnett Gardens resolve had already wilted.

The half ended 2-0 despite other good attempts to widen the goal difference between both teams in a one-sided affair. The surge was replicated in like fashion in the second period as Kavin Bryan spun and rifled home another scorcher inside the area past McLeish after Oniel Smith crossed from the right after 54 minutes had elapsed.

Ricardo Smith replaced Gregory Simpson, Jermaine Hue replaced Edwards as did Nicholas Dodd for Kemeel Wolfe as Harbour View kept up the pressure but did not extend the lead until the 86th minute when a defensive blunder assisted to seal the issue.

Constantly under duress goalkeeper McLeish punched at Donald Stewart’s lob and in the process miscued it behind him as he rushed out the goal. In a genuine attempt to clear it, central defender Mark Wisdom could only get a toe to it that helped it into the roof of the net as if to “the rub salt-in-the-wound”.

Referee Howard Stennett credited it as an own goal Hue tried to get his name on the score sheet but shot wide from 15 yards, as Taylor and Dodd struck shots from distance. Arnett never seemed to come to terms with the game as Cornel Chin Sue, earlier Everton Bunsie, Leon Strickland and Marcellino Blackburn speculative shots never threatened as Kwame Richardson’s early burst of  speed on the right became less and less until finally disappearing.

UNDER 21:

A 1-1 scoreline was disappointing for Harbour View who dominated the entire game but only scored after letting in their opponents in the 64th minute.

On Wednesday, the return leg in the Red Stripe Champions Cup Knockout Quarterfinals are to be played at Tivoli Gardens with them holding a commanding 3-0 lead.

On Sunday at the same venue the second game in the Premier League’s third Round continues.

TIVOLI SCORCHES HARBOUR VIEW WITH THREE SECOND HALF GOALS TO ASSUME COMMANDING LEAD IN RED STRIKE KNOCKOUT!

Fabian Taylor  getting by two defenders

Defending Champions Tivoli Gardens strode ahead in the first leg of the Red Stripe Champions Cup Knockout quarterfinal at the Harbour View stadium by a commanding three goals to zero.

The first half had not too much action as both teams played very cagey as the spectators twisted in their seats Kavin Bryan would break away but could not beat the advancing goalkeeper Edsel Scott midway the half.

Lovel Palmer was also blocked at the far post as Robert Scarlett’s cross left him all alone as for the third time Scott fell to the ground the accept injury treatment.

Two swerving corners from Fabian Davis and then Christopher Jackson called on goalkeeper Dwayne Miller to tip over the bar for a series of corner kicks to Tivoli as the second half brought the game to life.

In minute 52 Jackson slammed a strong shot to goal from just inside the box as it evaded Miller’s hands and scored below his body at the near post. Ten minutes later a questionable refereeing decision resulted in an infringement 22 yards outside the Harbour View area and Fabian Davis curled a superb shot to beat a diving Miller and gain a two goal buffer.

Tempers flared as goalkeeper Scott marched out of his goal to confront a spectator who is said to have hurled an object at him, as the game was delayed for three minutes. It only got worse as Richard Edwards committed a second bookable offence to be ejected and reduce his team to ten men after 76 minutes. Scott again confronted the offender this time on the field as Referee Courtney Campbell belatedly issued a caution.

Six minutes of injury time added was more than enough for former National striker Roland Dean to deliver another telling blow to the hosts by beating the goalkeeper with a clean strike from just inside the area.

Tivoli 3 Harbour View 0, leaves Harbour View with a daunting task of getting four goals away to Tivoli next Wednesday to have a chance to advance to the Knockout semifinals.

RENO SCORES VERY LATE TO LIFT THE END OF SECOND ROUND FINAL!

Young Darian McNain clinches exciting extra time victory in the 120th minute!

The beautiful setting at St. Elizabeth High School was flooded with eager football enthusiasts as they filed into the newly developed arena in Buses, Cars, Bicycles and on foot.

Vehicular traffic blocked two sides of the road as the heavily marketed event dominated the locally promoted Carnival Parade.

UNDER 21 CROWN:

The march was opened at 12:30pm as Tivoli Gardens attempted to and in the end captured the End of Second Round Trophy by scoring as late as the 82nd minute when Damion Gordon nipped between two defenders to score.

PREMIER LEAGUE:

Fabian Taylor in strugle to maintain posession

Prominently placed under the official’s tent, the coveted trophy glistened in the glimmering sunlight as intermittent periods of light showers sprinkled all afternoon.

A roar went up as the “Stars of the East” entered the enclosed area, not to be outdone the Westmoreland fans raised a loud noise as their team strode forward to battle.

Two technically sound teams, a rich mix of talented players both senior and junior paraded the skills in front of Technical Director, Velibor “Bora” Mulitinovic, the Live Television and Radio audiences and the thousands of fans in the venue.

Trading attacks were the order of the day as Reno shot wide from 11 yards then Fabian Taylor’s header was well held by National Under 20 goalkeeper Dwayne Kerr. Immediately followed by Rafiek Thomas whose toe-poke evading the grasp of Kerr’s advance to bounce just wide of a gapping goal.

The left sided cross was glanced wide as the Reno attacker came under severe pressure and almost in duplicate the Harbour View forward failed to steer the side-footer on goal.

Stout defensive units, coordinated midfield and strong ball possessive tactics dominated the game punctuated by strong tackles and powerful burst of speed designed to penetrate.

A connoisseurs football feast unfolded all afternoon spoilt somewhat by good goalkeeping at both ends of the field as National Under 21 reserve goalkeeper, Dwayne Miller rivaled his team-mate.

Kemeel Wolfe came closest when Robert Scarlett’s left-sided square was nodded just outside the right upright in minute 41.

The second half mirrored the first as both teams probe relentlessly going forward, side to side, back and across, individual skills and disciplined team plays but still no goals. Kemeel Wolfe again would come even closer when he swerved inside to let fly a looping left-footer from 24 yards that smashed onto the crossbar before bouncing out of play.

Long range shots became the order of the day from both teams as Jermaine Hue’s low 21 yard drive from wide on the left touch line had Kerr scrambling to hold on as it rolled away for a corner just outside his near post.

Michily Waul breaking away down the right Jermaine Hue

Miller displayed clean hands as he coped with the only shot on target as the Reno efforts ended wide of the mark. The game ended at 0-0.

Extra time never helped either team as the work rate was still intense and the exchanges favoured no one as Lovel Palmer was dominant defensively as Nicholi Findlayson plugged away at initiating attacks. Hue and Taylor orchestrated attacks as Christopher Harvey and Jermaine Taylor secured the back as Harbour View dominated for the last 35 minutes with experienced

players Reno let loose younger fresher legs that tested the backline constantly on the counter attack right to the end.

Marks man Nyron Davis struck a vicious shot straight at Miller who again handled well but it was the second surge by Fabian Blake down the centre of the field that created the most telling blow almost at the games end.

He made his way into the area to elude the challenge of Harvey and Miller slipping his pass to substitute 18 year old Manning’s High student Darian McNain to score from 7 yards ahead of Jermaine Taylor’s challenge.

30 seconds on the clock, ticked off much too quickly as Harbour View tried to register one last attack that never materialized.

Reno celebrates it’s first trophy at this level since 1995, long into the night.

Congratulations to all concerned!!!

HARBOUR VIEW FC SPANK DOWNS OF ST. ELIZABETH BY 6-0 IN RETURN GAME OF RED STRIPE KNOCKOUT CHAMPIONS CUP!

Michily Waul strikes twice as a late substitute!.

Harbour View and Downs in their first round encounter at the Harbour View Stadium

The team complied of Under 21 players, substitutes from the night before as well as other players in the squad worked intensely to carve out an impressive victory in the end as the hard surface and troublesome windy conditions were major distraction for the first 25 minutes or more before the team took control by simplified team play.

Richard West keep his goal-scoring run in place by notching the first after 27 minutes as Anthony Christie passed beautifully to him inside the area.  Soon fellow hitman Rafiek Thomas would repeat the feat, of scoring a goal in each of the last three games when he pushed it away from the goalkeepers reach.

West would return to square perfectly onto the head of  Lawrence Smith to score at the far post in minute 42. 3-0 at halftime as Coach Lennie Hyde instructed the troops to retain the concentration through team play.

On the resumption the visitors from the east were in immaculate form as they strode about the pitch with confidence, ease and good coordination that seemed to baffle the opponents who were without a coach.

Ricardo “Bloody” Smith would score a rare goal for himself, as his free kick from 21 yards out was held up in the heavy crosswind before dipping dangerously into the goal over the head of the goalkeeper.

Three substitutes made their entry as Michily Waul, Kemar Petrekin and Paul Grant made an impressive contribution to the game as Waul converted twice inside the area to end the contest at 6-0 but 10 -0 overall, following last weeks 4-0 victory at home.

RED STRIPE CHAMPIONS CUP KNOCKOUT:

We await the next draw for the quarterfinals scheduled on either March 7th or 8th, 2007.

END OF SECOND ROUND FINALS:

Sunday we travel again to St. Elizabeth Technical High School, this time to seek a Special Trophy on our 33rd Anniversary date, the End of Second Round Final against Reno at 3pm.

HARBOUR VIEW FC ARE WESTERN UNION/KSAFA JACKIE BELL KNOCKOUT CHAMPIONS BY DEFEATING BOY’S TOWN BY 1-0!

Fabian Taylor once again grabs the winner in the 48th minute.

Kavin Bryan on one of his determined burst goal wards

Not a “Classic” by any means but the “Stars of the East” held their composure under constantly battling against a game challenge from defending Champions, the “Red Brigade” of Boy’s Town. Always wearing the lofty title of the “Best in the West” the champions from Collie Smith Drive worked feverishly to subdue the rampant attackers from the “East” as Kavin Bryan was roughly treated only to get back up and continue his determined burst goal wards unperturbed.

His dangerous strike partner Fabian Taylor would be denied as early as minute 18 when the ball fell to his feet just outside the six yards box but his toe-poke forward was blocked by the alert Fabian Watkins to earn a second corner only.

Then Bryan turned his marker to release his Captain, Lovel Palmer streaking down the left to shot just wide of the far upright, as the crowd mourned in high expectation of the first goal.

Boy’s Town had their moments as Peter Keyes and George Vernal tried to outwit the stable defensive backline lead by Christopher Harvey and Jermaine Taylor, as Oniel Smith supported and Robert Scarlett initiated possession and attacks. Dwayne Miller was hardly troubled in goal as Donald Stewart, Lovel Palmer and Richard Edwards nullified possession in midfield as Kemeel Wolfe flowed with Scarlett on the left flank.
