HARBOUR VIEW EDGE “OLD RIVALS” BOYS TOWN 1- 0.

Premier League:

Kevin King breaking through Boys Town Defense

A 19th minute attacking move resulted in the decisive goal in the contest as the young striker Kevin King controlled beautifully on his chest then having goalkeeper Porter at his mercy stroked it wide of him to win the game. The buildup from deep inside their own half meant the ball played to Donald Stewart to launch a diagonal to Ronnie Amauga who relayed to the darting Kemar Petrekin to cross beating the entire defence to find the waiting chest of King who converted.

Harbour View dominated the first 45 minutes as they strolled around the lush National Stadium field with consummate ease in passing across the back then choosing when to attack. Possession was the name of the game as the “Stars of the East” took time to get their rhythm back after the week and a half following the rains and rescheduled games.

Few shots on goal highlighted the half as a frustrated looking Boys Town chased leather while defending being starved to attack.

The second half was the complete opposite as “The Red Brigade” came storming forward as Harbour View seemed content to encourage the attacks while shutting out all goal attempts. However about three half chances went abeging as the Boys Town forwards were not good enough to convert. Harbour View stood there ground as BT surged but could not penetrate.

Rare counter-attacks from King, Petrekin and Lovel Palmer threatened Kirk Porter in goal but his two saves kept them at bay to retain the 1-0 scoreline.

HARBOUR VIEW GET PAST RIVOLI UNITED WITH A 2-0 VICTORY

Premier League:

Two strikes in the second half propelled league leaders Harbour View Football Club further into the lead on eighteen (18) points from eight (8) games after losing in midweek to Village United.

Gregory Simpson 40 yard pile-driver from his venomous left foot rocketed into the roof of the net to leave not only the goalkeeper stunned but the ground in shock on the hour mark. His first goal for the club was wildly celebrated in the minutes that followed as the crowd slowly came back down to earth having witnessed this extra-ordinary feat.

Surely a candidate for goal of the week and possibly the season.

Captain Lovel Palmer regained his goalscoring form when he drove home a 74th minute penalty to lead 2-0 after Marcelino Blackburn was bundled over in the box. As much as the patrons applauded the goal the hope was that his earlier 16th minute volley from 20 yards crashing against the crossbar should have scored as the beauty climaxed a seven pass series that left the Rivoli team gazing in amazement, bewildered by the slick ball movement across the field as Palmer smashed the volley delivered in with pin-point accuracy from Ronnie Amaguana down the right flank.

Rivoli’s captain Omar Parker, who was red carded along with Blackburn who retaliated in minute 78, must have been disappointed after his troops turned in a spirited first half of good teamwork mixed with heavy off the ball running that threatened but failed to penetrate the defence marshalled by William Richards.

The absence of national defender Jermaine Taylor was hardly missed as he along with Leighton Murray and Luton Shelton were away in London for the Reggae Boyz game against Australia, which they were soundly trashed by 5-0. Ryan Thompson in goal and Kemar Petrekin upfront both looked the part as did the young Sieon Giveans in his first appearance.

UNDER 21:

Harbour View 3 Rivoli 1.

Harbour View Under 21 Victory celebration

A second half double strike from Kevin Woolery (68,85) and a late goal in time added (90) on by defender Ricardo Taylor was enough to erase an earlier strike (61) by Luke Soares as Harbour View stayed in the joint leadership with Tivoli with two wins from two games.

Harbour View remain sole leaders of the League on 18 points.

Digicel has come on board to assist with Two (2) Million Dollars to the JFF and so the League will be played only on Sundays as a curtain raiser to the Premier League games until the completion of the third Round.

Premier League:

Early afternoon light showers made the surface slick and fast as the ball skidded across the turf the players chased hastily in pursuit, the coaches instructed caution and control but the game swung like a pendulum, to and fro at both ends before Lovel Palmer converted only to be ruled offside after 6 minutes.

The nerves settled, the instructions heeded and the danger averted Seba tried to pass around the ball at the back still confronted by snapping attackers trying to win the ball.

Dodd found King down the right only to be fouled just outside the box. Dodd continued the attack via the free kick in minute 16 for Loxely Thomas to head home at the far post.

Minute 28 produced goal number two as King beat his man twice on the right before switching to the left foot to blast against the crossbar from the shoulder of the custodian. The deflection fell to strike partner Richard West who stroked home out of reach of everyone from 8 yards, registering his first goal for Harbour View.

Kemar James broke the Harbour View defenses twice but his first shot blocked by goalkeeper Leighton Murray his second chance was headed wide at the near post.

He however would return in the second half when Seba held the advantage of possession to turn two defenders and shoot accurately to score the consolation goal after 65 minutes.

Marcelino Blackburn again provided an attacking spark as a substitute but his opportunity created by West was pulled into the side netting, as too the header from Kevin King to retain the 2-1 score line.

Harbour View maintained sole leadership of the League on 15 points.

HARBOUR REMAINS ATOP THE LEAGUE WITH A 3-1 VICTORY OVER THE BUBBLING ARNETT GARDENS IN THE “JUNGLE”!

Rains islandwide caused slippery conditions underfoot as soft surfaces impacted of high quality games would sometimes be sacrificed for defensive organization highlighted by attacking accuracy to gain points.

Harbour View were clinical in finishing attacks while accommodating opponents surges with immature positioning that Arnett squandered to their own detriment later in the game. Early attacks from the “jungilists” found Kwame Richardson benefit from a cross that hit his shin before skidding wide of the upright after 6 minutes. Then another right sided cross was headed under pressure, outside the near post 8 minutes later by Tristan Bernard.

Harbour View responded when deep midfielder Richard Edwards powered a 23 yard bouncing effort at goal that hit the forehead of goalkeeper Julian McLiesh before bouncing back into the penalty area and cleared into touch. Lovel Palmer broke on the right but shot straight at a well positioned McLiesh while hard working Kevin King returning from red card suspension, was constantly being fouled and Luton Shelton was closely patrolled as always. Cautions to defender Jerry Walters by Referee Peter Prendergast soon slowed that trend as other defenders were verbally warned.

Another effort spurned by Gregg Taylor was saved by Leighton Murray low down to his right as King was again bundled over before the resulting Gregory Simpson left footed free kick was deflected for a corner. Nicholas Dodd’s kick was palmed wide by McLeish and King shot was handled as Prendergast pointed to the penalty spot in minute 44. Shelton drove the shot with ferocious power against the nylon net to go to the break at 1-0.

Arnett again started the half brightest with five men in midfield seeking the equalizer as Harbour View stood firm guided by the leadership of returning Donald “Foulie” Stewart in midfield replacing last games MVP Marcelino Blackburn as Loxely Thomas was elevated to an attacking role. Close encounters by the defense unit held out for the first 22 minutes as the entry of substitutes Ronnie Amaguana for Simpson, Blackburn for Loxely Thomas and Richard West for Shelton changed the game in favour of the visitors as the heavy surface took a toll on the legs of Arnett defenders as their attack fell away with dubious substitutions not appreciated by the crowd.

Dodd streaked down the right before crossing to West who simple relayed to King in the box to drive a grounder wide of McLiesh in minute 77 to go up 2-0. As the resulting kickoff unfolded in was greeted with sloppy defensive tackles that left Gregg Taylor with a half chance inside the box to score in minute 78.

Harbour View regrouped immediately warned by eruption of the supporters, the added urgency of the players and coaches they slowed the game and converted series of passes across the field to seize control again. Blackburn and West combined beautifully throughout as Jermaine Taylor stole the ball to stride forward into the opponents half then slipping a pass outside to West on the left flank who easily disposed of his marker to square for the motivated Blackburn to outpace the defence get a second touch to his control by headed into the goal in time added on as he raced to the corner flag to “get- jiggy and fan them off” dance in celebration.

Harbour View regained sole leadership of the League on 12 points.

Next Sunday, October 2, 2005 Harbour View hosts the returning former three time Champions Seba United of Montego Bay at home at 6:30pm.

HARBOUR VIEW DROPS FIRST POINTS TO PORTMORE AS A LATE HEADER GIVES CHAMPIONS A 1-0 WIN.

Luton Shelton trying to break away from his two markers

Sheldon Palmer’s 75th minute header from a left sided cross sent his cheering supporters into rhapsody by recording their second victory from four matches and lifts them into fourth position on eight points behind leaders Harbour View with a superior goal difference, Waterhouse and Arnett Gardens all tied on nine points.

In a game that exhibited good technical skills, tactical awareness and individual flair the large crowd reveled in the cool atmosphere from as early as a hour before the game begun at 6:30pm. In a day specially designated as “FIFA World Fair Play Day” across the globe the introductory ceremony that included the entire local Football Fraternity represented by both team captains reading joint statement had set a somber tone that was well received by the audience.

Shawn Sawyers made two brilliant saves early from point blank range from the power runs of Marcelino Blackburn and then Lovel Palmer denying the host the lead, while he chased hastily across his goal twice to parry Luton Shelton 23 yard bombs to his right and left as Portmore slowed but did not control the attackers progress.

The half ended dogged by midfield battle lines drawn and strategies by both coaches to unleash players from their shackles while holding the opponents locked into possession and not scoring that all important first goal. After 61 minutes, Captain Lovel Palmer broke free with blistering pace from midfield and the deft chip from Loxely Thomas fell sweetly in his path just outside the penalty box. He waited calmly for it to fall below his chest and watch it sit in the lush grass waiting to be spanked goalwards.

Just then he thought was I offside or am I truly free, it that moment of indecision the alert goalkeeper Sawyers quickly closed down the space and his angle as his defenders retreated hastily towards the ball. Palmer struck onto Sawyers leg and the rebound went 120 yards to Ronnie Amaguana the substitute who blasted goalwards as Sawyers again blocked high to his left and his now recovered defenders scrambled the chance away to safety. Coach Paul Young breathed anxiously as Donavan Hayles scratched his bald path in disbelief as the best opportunity was spurned.

The rest was to come as a heartbreaker to the Harbour View fans as a signal sounded when under pressure Steve Morrisey’s miscued shot bounced off the upright then four minutes later another left sided move produced a Tyrone Sawyers cross that found Palmer’s head between two defenders to register the winning goal of the interesting game.

Giveaways to first two season ticket holders from WATA and gifts from JAMBISCO to players of the game (Marcelino Blackburn and Anthony Modeste) for both teams ended the ceremonies as the crowd filed out homewards.

Our next game is against Arnett Gardens at the Tony Spaulding Complex on Wednesday, September 29th at 5pm.

HARBOUR VIEW SNATCHES 2-1 COME FROM BEHIND VICTORY IN WESTMORELAND AGAINST A REJUVENATED RENO OUTFIT.

An early season top of the table clash between two of the four only remaining undefeated clubs in the Premier League, ended the Reno fairytale run after three rounds on a muddy surface heavily supported by a large crowd.

When Loxely Thomas drove manfully into the soggy Reno penalty area before slidding home a grounder inside the near post just before the first half ended, it signalled the leadership of the new look Harbour View aggregation would remain intact not just of that game but the league with three consecutive victories on nine points.

Omar Dallas capitalized for Reno after just 8 minutes of all out attacks to lead when Leighton Murray fumbled an Andre Jarrett shot onto the crossbar.

The ball then fell invitingly to the foot of Dallas from 5 yards to tap into an open goal.

Captain Lovel Palmer equalized after 17 minutes. When the corner was headed on beyond the far post by Palmer as King chased he was pulled to the ground by goalkeeper Kenrick Blair. Referee Victor Stewart obliged by pointing to the penalty spot.

In minute 43, Nicholas Dodd’s pass down the right flanked was chased and robbed from the Reno defender by the industrious Kevin King to cross to Thomas to score and win the game.

A playing surface not best equipped for any game being drenched by continuous pre game showers only made a tough game more difficult but the commitment shown by Harbour View players was enough to hold off the challenge of a spirited Reno team. Counter attacking in spurts provided forwards Luton Shelton, Kevin King and Leon Strickland all with good shots on goals that brought out fine saves from Blair periodically.

Next Sunday, September 25, 2005 Harbour View hosts the only other undefeated Club in the League, Champions Portmore United at home at 6:30pm.

Starting Lineup:

GK : Leighton Murray,
Defence: Nicholas Dodd, Jermaine Taylor, Alex Thomas, Orville Campbell,
Midfield: Loxely Thomas, Richard Edwards, Lovel Palmer, Marcelino Blackburn
Forwards: Luton Shelton, Kevin King.

Substitutes:
William Richards, Sean Mason, Leon Strickland.
Not used: Ondino Griffiths, Dennis Clayton (Gk), Kemar Petrekin, Marlon Dixon.

Reno’s Odeane Johnson and Harbour View’s Kevin King were ejected from the game in 81st minute.

  • Seba United 0 Waterhouse 1

HARBOUR VIEW EDGES PAST CONSTANT SPRING BY 1-0!

Another Goal from Captain Lovel Palmer is enough.

The 36th minute opener from “Captain Corageous” Lovel Palmer got the scoreboard ticking but it quickly stopped the forward thrust by a sleek looking Constant Spring aggregation at the Compound.

The 36th minute strike from a glancing header re-directed after diminutive right back Nicholas Dodd’s free-kick was met 13 yards from the near post before lodging in the far corner.

The opening foray say Luton Shelton streak away from defenders as Loxely Thomases 35 yard searching pass find its mark before Shelton beat everyone then kicked high. Seven minutes earlier he combined well with King but was thwarted by goalkeeper Kirk Williams.

It was centre-forward Kevin King who started hungriest with three telling moves down the right flank before unleashing torrid drives goalwards to put the custodian and defenders under siege from the third minute of play.

Midfield battles ensued all night in waves from both sides as an intriguing tussle saw Constant Spring more creative but Harbour View more resilient plus counter attacking that promised much but failed to deliver the final blow.

In the end a fair result from two remodelled units that kept the fair sized crowd entertained throughout.

On Sunday, September 17th, we again travel to the western end of the island to Reno in Westmoreland at 3:30pm.
