HARBOUR VIEW FC KICKS-OFF NEW THRUST IN THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMME WITH EIGHT BASIC SCHOOLS.

Clifton Waugh assisting Coach Lenworth  Hyde in teaching proper heading technique.

There was a lot of smiling faces as boys, girls, teachers and footballers mingled on the lush grassy outfield replacing the dust bowls that exist in two places near by schools in the area.

The continued positive association with the football Club in our Community Outreach venture with the Basic Schools over the last eight years through the annual Labour Day Community Fair, Football Festival, Health Fair and Concert.

The extended programme seeks to establish a special Physical Education Class for Boys and Girls, as an "Introduction to Basic Football", run by our Club Managers, Coaches and Senior Players at our stadium. In the absence of no playfields, no Physical Education teacher, no football facilities the pre-dominantly female teaching population at the Basic Schools, the Club conceptualised the need to pioneer the physical educational programme to embrace this necessary requirement by having our male role models interface regularly with the youngsters.

An initial group of possibly two hundred and fifty (250) children (including Girls, Boys) five (5) years old and Teachers from the eight (8) Basic Schools within Harbour View Community participated on Wednesday, October 4th from 9:30am at our stadium.

Sampling of both Lucozade Sport and Ribena from sponsors GlaxoSmith Kline Caribbean Limited along with Wisynco providing Wata, and “Likkle” Bigga in addition to biscuits and snacks from Jamaica Biscuit Company Limited adequately covered the nutritional needs of  all the schools.

New equipment sponsors Adidas pumped in branded head and wrist bands that the Players, Managers and Coaching Staff had fun adoring their favourite pupil who accepted it with a broad smile.

Thereafter once monthly we will visit the schools to stage follow up sessions with the children while illustrating the techniques to the teachers and children.

BERGER Paints assist in Beautifying the twelve year old stadium!

The crew of expert painters toiled away  to enhance the general outlook of the venue

Through the initiative of Club representatives along with Mr Paul Alexander, Sydney Jumpp and Ian McNaughton of Berger Paints Limited, we have begun to repaint the over a decade old stadium, to brighten the spirit of its patrons and club members while enjoy “The Beautiful Game!”.

Erected in the summer of 1994 (as the first Caribbean stadium owned and built by a football club not the government) to host the newly developed Caribbean Major League Football in which Harbour View Football Club participated as one of two Jamaican Franchises along with the now defunct, Cornwall County Lions of Montego Bay.

The crew of expert painters toiled away daily to enhance the general outlook of the venue last week ahead of the feature Premier League game on Sunday, September 24, 2006 between the two undefeated teams, Harbour View FC and joint League leaders Reno FC from Westmoreland.

Live Television broadcast on TVJ beamed positive images islandwide as hosts Harbour View FC displayed new equipment Sponsors Adidas defeated Reno FC by 2-1 to take sole leadership of the league on maximum nine points from three games.

The brighter look of the freshly painted surfaces shone through and gathered much compliments from the supporters, visitors and the Media present. Hopefully we can get the needed additional assistance to complete the process and make a really unforgettable impact matching the splendour of the beautiful Berger Paints Billboard wisely erected behind the western goal.

Lets continue to brighten our mutual fortunes in the near and foreseeable future.

HARBOUR VIEW FC SCORES A HATRICK OF VICTORIES AS RENO GOES DOWN 2-1.

Double victory stuns Reno to snap their winning streak!

Under 21:

Harbour View FC 3 Reno 0.

Captain, Michily Waul struck well twice to lead his charges to a comfortable victory in minutes 9 and 81, as Paul Grant picked out Anthony Christie at the near post for him to bypass the goalkeeper and score in the 80th minute.

New Coaches Max Straw, Andrew Hines along with Manager Robert Lee left satisfied with the third consecutive win.

Rafeik Thomas celebrating the opening goal

The first half ended goalless but not without real interest as Harbour View’s ball possession was seemingly out of the reach of the visitors from Westmoreland but as Petrekin’s header soared wide, Loxely Thomas shot inside the near post twice from inside the box and Kavin Bryan’s shot blocked, goalkeeper Dwayne Kerr’s goal looked safe from any breaches after not conceding a goal this season.

Joint League leaders, the undefeated Reno came out the more assertive at the start of the second half now under its third coach for the season as former Technical Director, Wendell Downswell replaced former National goalkeeper and Reggae Boy, Aaron Lawrence who had taken the reigns from Peruvian Danillo Boraggio after the first game.

Their forays into the area proved futile as two headers from the penalty spot flew wide and goalkeeper Michaud Barrett stood tall in handling all else thrown at him. Then Kemar Petrekin and Loxely Thomas was substituted by his namesake Rafeik and Robert Scarlett in minute 62.

When Jermaine Taylor’s shot was blocked the defender hesitated a second too long as Thomas snuck in between him and the ball moving it and in return being kicked over as Referee Hughill Thompson signalled a penalty in minute 73. Rafeik got up to dust himself off and convert for the lead.

A give-n-go between Kavin Bryan and a third substitute Lenworth Hyde Jr. down the centre left Bryan streaking away from a scrambling defender to slot pass the advancing Kerr in goal to score his third goal in as many games in minute 81.

Then the bad habit of giving up a goal in time added on resurfaced for the third time this season as Kirk Wright was alert enough to push Wooley of the ball to slide it pass Barrett from 12 yards in minute 90, to get a consolation goal.

As Rafeik Thomas broke free his shot was well saved by Kerr as the game ended 2-1 for the hosts Harbour View FC.

HARBOUR VIEW DEFEATS ARNETT GARDENS BY 2-1 IN THE JUNGLE!

Loxely Thomases 13th minute penalty on the second attempt was enough to give the visitors from the east a narrow 1-0 lead at halftime. When the emerging striker Kavin Bryan twisted and turned away from two tracking defenders to shunt towards Lovel Palmer, the ball was intercepted by the left hand of the retreating midfielder, Jonathan Williams, for the Referee to point to the penalty spot.

When two Harbour View players rushed into the penalty area before the kick was converted, the inevitable retake was eminent but the calm demeanour of Thomas shun through to place the ball safely into the corner-pocket of the net pass Julian McLeish.

The two former Champions traded blows evenly throughout as Marcellino Blackburn’s header was excellently tipped around the upright for a corner by goalkeeper Michaud “Button” Barrett, much to the dismay of Blackburn.

Again the hard-working Bryan popped up at the unprotected left side of the box, received a pass from strike partner Rafeik Thomas, to hammer home a scorcher beyond a bewildered McLeish in minute 78, to stretch the advantage to 2-0.

Leon Strickland had entered the contest just five minutes earlier, when he struck a speculative shot from 24 yards, it that took a wicked deflection from a defender to bounce awkwardly pass a slipping Barrett to shorten the lead to one but not enough to gain a point in the end as Harbour View stayed ahead by the odd goal in three.

Coach, Lennie Hyde was pleased with the result as opposing Coach, Glendon “Admiral” Bailey gathered his thoughts to ponder gaining his first victory this season.

Next Sunday, September 24th Harbour View FC plays at home in a LIVE Televised Game versus undefeated challengers Reno FC of Westmoreland at 4pm following the Under 21 game at 1:30pm.

HARBOUR VIEW FC KICKSOFF 2006-07 PREMIER LEAGUE SEASON IN WINNING FASHION!

Double victory over newcomers Naggo Head, in a twelve goals thriller!

The new objective is to WIN the Premier League, as finishing second last season was clearly not good enough.

Under 21:

Harbour View FC 3 Naggo Head 2

What a battle for supremacy it was as both teams spewed high-energy football over the park for ninety breath-taking minutes of continuous attacking. Visitors Naggo Head shot into the lead in minute 30 when the lanky Jermaine Clarke pounced to beat the custodian from close range and hold the lead at halftime.

Captain, Michily Waul equalised from the penalty spot early in the second stanza with only five (5) minutes elapsed. Kashi Schroeter nipped between two defender to deceive the goalkeeper and take the lead three minutes later.

It was all squared at 2-2 when Kennardo Forbes scored for Naggo Head in minute 55.

The winning goal would come in time added on as the drama reached a crescendo. Seven well constructed passes down the left flank ended when Schroeter met the cross and deflected it back into the path of  attacking midfielder Damian Anderson who blasted low into the far corner from 23 yards to seal a deserved victory.

New Coaches Max Straw, Andrew Hines along with Manager Robert Lee all jumped up in celebration with the squad as they taste the first victory in their new roles.

PREMIER LEAGUE:

Harbour View FC 4 Naggo Head 3

Sometimes history repeats itself but most times it not immediately…well let’s flashback to yesterday!

Determined to make a positive impression in the big league, the first movement forward to penetrate was cautiously greeted by the Harbour View defence. When the corner arrived at the near-post it caught defenders napping as the more alert Fabian Malcolm headed home from just inside the six yard box to assume the early lead for Naggo Head.

Seven minutes later Nicholas Dodd turned his defender inside out before blasting goalwards from 25 yards on the right a scud-like missile, that swerved, bounced and flew off the newly cut grass to whiz pass the goalkeeper before logding in the net.

Kirk Ramsey was also more aggressive to get onto a loose ball in the area that deflected from a freekick to him just forward of the penalty spot. He scored to help Naggo Head lead 2-1 at halftime.

Bolting from the starting blocks in the style of Asafa Powell “The Stars of the East” equalised just two minutes into the second half as Kemar Petrekin headed in from a corner. Loxely Thomas grabbed the lead as the blitz hit a high after just five minutes from the penalty spot as Naggo Head looked all at seas as waves of tactical pressure at pace were brought to bear.

They came crashing down in minute seventy six as debutant Kavin Bryan capped of a night of real industry to score from 13 yards, a most deserving reward that was warmly greeted by the partisan crowd.

Kevin Bryan  “Most Valuable Player” for Harbour View Fabian Malcolm “Most Valuable Player” for Naggo Head

Bryan was to later be named the “Most Valuable Player” for Harbour View but not before Kirk Ramsay had his last say again in time added on, as he slipped goalkeeper Michaud Barrett to score in the 90th.

Fabian Malcolm was named the “Most Valuable Player” for Naggo Head. New Coach Lenworth Hyde along with Manager Annmarie Massey all breath a sigh of relief as the first victory in their new roles was enjoyed but stained by the amount of goals conceded.

HARBOUR VIEW DEFEATS CARIBBEAN ALL STARS FOR SECOND 1-0 VICTORY ON PRE-SEASON TOUR OF CANADA

Back row: Max, Lennie, Petrekin, Taylor, Simpson, Christie, Palmer, Bryan, Breakenridge, L.Thomas, Groves, Jeffers.
Front Row: Jureidini, Smith, Dodd, Edwards, Barrett, R. Thomas, Wooley, Waul.

Harbour View Fc completed their two game Tour of Toronto last night on a winning note by scoring a second 1-0 victory, this time over the CARIBBEAN All Stars at the Esther Shiner Stadium. The all important goal was scored by Kemar Petrekin in the 25th minute when Ricardo Smith won possession midway the opponents half then passed to Kavon Bryan who relayed to Petrekin in front of goal to beat the advancing goalkeeper, Stephan McIntosh.

The All Stars penetrated twice before being thwarted by custodian Michaud Barrett before halftime as Rafeik Thomas replied with a rasping 21 yard pile-driver that bounced of the upright. The half ended 1-0.

On the resumption it was all Harbour View as shots by Nicholas Dodd was well saved by McIntosh as Thomas's follow up went high. Anthony Christie crossed for Petrekin to head to the far corner only for McIntosh again to save.

When Gregory Simpson's long range pass was collected by Petrekin, he then outfoxed the defender but could not succeed in lobbing the goalkeeper in minute 87. The trophy for the victorious team was presented to Coach Max Straw at the end of the game and Rafeik Thomas was awarded the MVP Trophy of the game.

Harbour View return home on Wednesday.

HARBOUR VIEW FOOTBALL CLUB SNATCHES A 1-0 WIN OVER CANADIAN LEAGUE LEADERS SERBIAN WHITE EAGLES!

Loxely Thomas

Loxely Thomas's fierce shot at goal from 21 yards was blocked by the hand of Serbian defender Marko Medic in the 58th minute. The penalty awarded was calmly dispatched by Thomas as the "Eagles" custodian Dustan Belic flew left and the shot was placed in the opposite direction, as Thomas ran away to the corner flag in celebration with his team-mates chasing.

The tempo of the game suddenly lifted as the season's leading team was faced with the prospect of losing for the first time, while the young visitors seeked a victory. This contrasted greatly to the probing first 45 minutes when Harbour View inched forward but stood well organised in defense lead by the astute Jermaine Taylor and the insightful Desmond Breakenridge. They were ably covered by Michaud "Button" Barrett with two spectacular diving saves and effective ball handling to catch crosses aimed at two towering six footers.

The 1517 patrons grew noisy as improved ball handling skills of Loxely and Rafeik Thomas, Kavon Bryan and Kemar Petrekin came to life much to the frustration of the Serbians on their home field.

Desmond Breakenridge received a second caution and was ejected from the game in minute 84 but Captain Lovel Palmer reverted to a defensive position as the visitors had now resigned themselves to containing the "Eagles".

There was still time for one more flash of dribbling skills by Rafeik Thomas down the flank with Nicholas Dodd assisting to square as Petrekin and Christie arrived a few seconds late for the cross to fade away at the far post.

A winning start to the two game tour for new Head Coach Lenworth Hyde and his assistant Max Straw, who got technical input on the bench from former Harbour View and National player Junior Groves who now coaches in Toronto.

On Tuesday the tour ends with a game against a Caribbean All Star team, the team returns home on Wednesday.

RED STRIPE CHAMPIONS CUP KNOCKOUT:

5:30pm Wednesday, February 8, 2006.
Jarrett Park, Montego Bay.

SEBA SNATCHES THE EARLY LEAD OVER THE LEAGUE LEADERS HARBOUR VIEW IN MONTEGO BAY!

Captain Norman Foster’s 77 minute freekick from just inside the left cornerflag found an unlikely allie in the Harbour View defenders who erred in contradictory communication to all together leave what seemed like an armless cross go by and into the far corner of the net, to sneak home a victory in an even contest.

The one goal lead is enough to travel away in Kingston but not enough to be comfortable with. The new away goal rule would be another big advantage for Seba who did well to prevent the Kingstonians from registering any credits in the important column.

Next weeks return leg is set to be an interesting affair at the Compound.

7:00pm Thursday, February 16, 2006.
Harbour View Stadium, Kingston.

TWO UNANSWERED GOALS BY STRIKE PARTNERS LUTON SHELTON AND FABIAN TAYLOR IS ENOUGH TO OVERCOME SEBA UNITED’S EARLY LEAD!

An early strike from the fit again national striker Luton Shelton after only five minutes erased the first leg lead of Montego Bay’s Seba United, when Ricardo Smith’s left sided cross was deflected away from Fabian Taylor by the goalkeeper only as far as Shelton outside the area for him to stab home from 21 yards past a group of defenders.

Two other left sided moves ended with inaccurate crosses going behind from Marcelino Blackburn then Smith as Richard Edwards shot against the upright from an acute angle later in the half.

Shelton tried a distant effort after 35 minutes and seemingly hurt he hobbled off the field before being an early substitute replaced by Lenworth Hyde Jr.

A barrage of shots on goal were blocked by bodies flung desperately across each others to stave off defeat at the beginning of the second stanza. As Harbour View marched forward, only time it seemed, could deny victory.

The sly fox, would have his day. Fabian Taylor latched onto a through ball just ahead of the advancing custodian to tuck it away in minute 73, for his first goal since his comeback. He gleefully jumped over the perimeter fencing, racing away to the delighted fans in the western stands just behind the goal. The stadium applauded his achievement as the referee had a quiet word into his appreciative ear as they both jogged back towards the centre circle.

The keen combat continued while not further disturbing the scoreline. Harbour View advanced to the quarterfinals next Wednesday against an opponent to be drawn tomorrow.
