RENO SCORES
VERY LATE TO LIFT THE END OF SECOND ROUND FINAL!
Young Darian McNain clinches
exciting extra time victory in the 120th minute!
The beautiful setting at St.
Elizabeth High School was flooded with eager football
enthusiasts as they filed into the newly developed arena in
Buses, Cars, Bicycles and on foot.
Vehicular traffic blocked two
sides of the road as the heavily marketed event dominated the
locally promoted Carnival Parade.
UNDER
21 CROWN:
The march was opened at 12:30pm
as Tivoli Gardens attempted to and in the end captured the End
of Second Round Trophy by scoring as late as the 82nd minute
when Damion Gordon nipped between two defenders to score.

Fabian Taylor
in strugle to maintain posession |
Prominently placed under the
official’s tent, the coveted trophy glistened in the
glimmering sunlight as intermittent periods of light showers
sprinkled all afternoon.
A roar went up as the “Stars of
the East” entered the enclosed area, not to be outdone the
Westmoreland fans raised a loud noise as their team strode
forward to battle.
Two technically sound teams, a
rich mix of talented players both senior and junior paraded
the skills in front of Technical Director, Velibor “Bora”
Mulitinovic, the Live Television and Radio audiences and the
thousands of fans in the venue.
Trading attacks were the order
of the day as Reno shot wide from 11 yards then Fabian
Taylor’s header was well held by National Under 20 goalkeeper
Dwayne Kerr. Immediately followed by Rafiek Thomas whose
toe-poke evading the grasp of Kerr’s advance to bounce just
wide of a gapping goal.
The left sided cross was
glanced wide as the Reno attacker came under severe pressure
and almost in duplicate the Harbour View forward failed to
steer the side-footer on goal.
Stout defensive units,
coordinated midfield and strong ball possessive tactics
dominated the game punctuated by strong tackles and powerful
burst of speed designed to penetrate.
A connoisseurs football feast
unfolded all afternoon spoilt somewhat by good goalkeeping at
both ends of the field as National Under 21 reserve
goalkeeper, Dwayne Miller rivaled his team-mate.
Kemeel Wolfe came closest when
Robert Scarlett’s left-sided square was nodded just outside
the right upright in minute 41.
The second half mirrored the
first as both teams probe relentlessly going forward, side to
side, back and across, individual skills and disciplined team
plays but still no goals. Kemeel Wolfe again would come even
closer when he swerved inside to let fly a looping left-footer
from 24 yards that smashed onto the crossbar before bouncing
out of play.
Long range shots became the
order of the day from both teams as Jermaine Hue’s low 21 yard
drive from wide on the left touch line had Kerr scrambling to
hold on as it rolled away for a corner just outside his near
post.
 |
 |
|
Michily Waul
breaking away down the right |
Jermaine Hue |
Miller displayed clean hands as
he coped with the only shot on target as the Reno efforts
ended wide of the mark. The game ended at 0-0.
Extra time never helped either
team as the work rate was still intense and the exchanges
favoured no one as Lovel Palmer was dominant defensively as
Nicholi Findlayson plugged away at initiating attacks. Hue and
Taylor orchestrated attacks as Christopher Harvey and Jermaine
Taylor secured the back as Harbour View dominated for the last
35 minutes with experienced
players Reno let loose younger
fresher legs that tested the backline constantly on the
counter attack right to the end.
Marks man Nyron Davis struck a
vicious shot straight at Miller who again handled well but it
was the second surge by Fabian Blake down the centre of the
field that created the most telling blow almost at the games
end.
He made his way into the area
to elude the challenge of Harvey and Miller slipping his pass
to substitute 18 year old Manning’s High student Darian McNain
to score from 7 yards ahead of Jermaine Taylor’s challenge.
30 seconds on the clock, ticked
off much too quickly as Harbour View tried to register one
last attack that never materialized.
Reno celebrates it’s first
trophy at this level since 1995, long into the night.
Congratulations to all concerned!!!

HARBOUR VIEW
FC SPANK DOWNS OF ST. ELIZABETH BY 6-0 IN RETURN GAME OF RED
STRIPE KNOCKOUT CHAMPIONS CUP!
Michily Waul strikes twice
as a late substitute!.
 |
|
Harbour View
and Downs in their first round encounter at the Harbour
View Stadium |
The team complied of Under 21
players, substitutes from the night before as well as other
players in the squad worked intensely to carve out an
impressive victory in the end as the hard surface and
troublesome windy conditions were major distraction for the
first 25 minutes or more before the team took control by
simplified team play.
Richard West keep his
goal-scoring run in place by notching the first after 27
minutes as Anthony Christie passed beautifully to him inside
the area. Soon fellow hitman Rafiek Thomas would repeat
the feat, of scoring a goal in each of the last three games
when he pushed it away from the goalkeepers reach.
West would return to square
perfectly onto the head of Lawrence Smith to score at
the far post in minute 42. 3-0 at halftime as Coach Lennie
Hyde instructed the troops to retain the concentration through
team play.
On the resumption the visitors
from the east were in immaculate form as they strode about the
pitch with confidence, ease and good coordination that seemed
to baffle the opponents who were without a coach.
Ricardo “Bloody” Smith would
score a rare goal for himself, as his free kick from 21 yards
out was held up in the heavy crosswind before dipping
dangerously into the goal over the head of the goalkeeper.
Three substitutes made their
entry as Michily Waul, Kemar Petrekin and Paul Grant made an
impressive contribution to the game as Waul converted twice
inside the area to end the contest at 6-0 but 10 -0 overall,
following last weeks 4-0 victory at home.

Kavin Bryan on
one of his determined burst goal wards |
Not a “Classic” by any means
but the “Stars of the East” held their composure under
constantly battling against a game challenge from defending
Champions, the “Red Brigade” of Boy’s Town. Always
wearing the lofty title of the “Best in the West” the
champions from Collie Smith Drive worked feverishly to subdue
the rampant attackers from the “East” as Kavin Bryan was
roughly treated only to get back up and continue his
determined burst goal wards unperturbed.
His dangerous strike partner
Fabian Taylor would be denied as early as minute 18 when the
ball fell to his feet just outside the six yards box but his
toe-poke forward was blocked by the alert Fabian Watkins to
earn a second corner only.
Then Bryan turned his marker to
release his Captain, Lovel Palmer streaking down the left to
shot just wide of the far upright, as the crowd mourned in
high expectation of the first goal.
Boy’s Town had their moments as
Peter Keyes and George Vernal tried to outwit the stable
defensive backline lead by Christopher Harvey and Jermaine
Taylor, as Oniel Smith supported and Robert Scarlett initiated
possession and attacks. Dwayne Miller was hardly troubled in
goal as Donald Stewart, Lovel Palmer and Richard Edwards
nullified possession in midfield as Kemeel Wolfe flowed with
Scarlett on the left flank.
The 49th minute would define
the game as Smith found Edwards mid way the attacking half,
for him to slide it forward by three yards searching for a
pass. Or was he?
As everyone’s eyes swept the
field far and wide, he unleashed a terrific shot from 27 yards
into and then out of the grasp of the BT goalkeeper, Kirk
Porter as Fabian Taylor was right on his doorstep to tap home
for the game winner.
The quality of the game
improved as some slick passing combinations littered the park
as the crowd cheered but the crescendo would come later as
National midfielder and Harbour View player, Jermaine Hue got
up to warm.
He entered the fray to
thunderous applause replacing the smooth attacker Wolfe after
71 minutes. A few simply passes were more than enough to
entertain the jubilant Harbour View Supporters as the Team
focused on the coordination in an effort to score a second
goal.
Hue’s pass to Taylor on the
left looked a curtain goal after Taylor tricked two defenders
to pull the custodian to him only to see his delicate curler
miss the upright. Bryan collected a Stewart slider which left
him all alone with Porter at his mercy but his chip was well
handled by Porter, to deny him any further advances in the
score line.
Gregory Simpson substituted
Scarlett, as did Richard West for Bryan as the end drew
closer. Three minutes added time did not help any as the
trophy was presented to the victors, in the Royal Box by
Deveta McLaren, Marketing Officer of Sponsors Western Union.
Wild celebrations ensued, water
splashing, hugging, kissing, running about the field stopping
briefly for photo taking of precious moments with friends,
well-wishers and fans before the Team picture was recorded.
Congratulations
Coach, Lennie
Hyde, Max Straw, Andrew Hines, Manager, Annmarie Massey,
Robert Lee, Karen Julius, Physio. Driver, Fuzzy hosted
Equipment Managers, Dwayne “Brukey” and Jermaine alias
Twinny” were in great spirits.

STORMS INTO THE WESTERN UNION KSAFA JACKIE BELL KNOCKOUT
FINALS AGAINST BOY'S TOWN!
1-0 Defeat of Waterhouse
courtesy of Kavin Bryan's early strike!
 |
|
Fabian Taylor
|
As the Club prepares to
celebrate it's 33rd Anniversary on Sunday, March 4th. The week
ahead promises much added jubilation if the Team can cap of
achievements with high performances following being already
crowned End of First Round Champions in the Premier League in
November 2006.
Firstly, in the Western Union
KSAFA Jackie Bell Knockout Final on Wednesday and then on
Sunday we travel to St. Elizabeth to try and clinch victory
over resurgent Reno in the End Of Second Round Premier League
Final.
It was a sudden blow inside the
far upright that decided the winner as early as the 4th
minute. Quick thinking in reacting to the infringement
on Bryan, the newly promoted National striker ended the game
that had hardly begun, as he raced away from a stunned
defensive unit caught napping as Robert Scarlett quickly took
the awarded free-kick midway the half.
As former National defenders
Marco McDonald and Desmond Breakenridge watched in dismay as
he bolted from them to place his scorching left-footer out of
reach of the surprised goalkeeper.
The Cheerleaders made merry,
supporters chanted while the bench hailed the newest
conqueror, dubbed "Titalinho". Two other glorious chances went
by as strike partner Fabian Taylor robbed Breakenridge in
possession to advance goalwards but his early chip was well
handled by the stranded custodian five minutes later.
Then twelve minutes later,
Bryan was sent clear by a three man combination only to see
his shot blocked with the goalkeeper at his mercy.
The half closed at the same 1-0
scoreline. Waterhouse attacked more in numbers but seemingly
without conviction as a patient Harbour View occupied the
territory behind the ball, choosing to counter-attack
occasionally through a now emerging Kemeel Wolfe and a
resurgent Lovel Palmer in tandem with twin strikers Bryan and
Taylor.
Wolfe weaved his way through a
maze of defenders to strike two torpedos that were well saved
and Palmer finished high twice in quick succession, on the
alternative right side. Bryan kicked wide and Taylor hit the
upright that was copied by the now attacking Scarlett who
struck twice from distance with his favoured left-foot,
hitting the crossbar and his second bomb spilled from the
goalkeepers grasp onto the upright before he hastily retrieved
it on the bounce.
Some of the players showing
clear signs of fatigue having just returned from the "Lunar
Tournament" in Hong Kong with the National Team, Coach Hyde
started ringing the substitutions by relieving Oniel Smith and
Fabian Taylor.
On comes Loxely Thomas and
Richard West both getting into the attacking action to launch
shots at goal that were difficult to handle as both resulting
in corners on the right. Scarlett was also to depart in favour
of Gregory Simpson late in the game as Waterhouse looked
dejected
leaving the field as the "Stars
of the East" marched into Wednesday's Final at 7pm, against
defending Champions Boy's Town, who earlier defeat Tivoli
Gardens by a similar 1-0 scoreline.

HARBOUR VIEW EXECUTES A CONVINCING 4-0
VICTORY OVER DOWNS FC OF MANCHESTER IN RED STRIPE CHAMPIONS
CUP 3rd ROUND KNOCKOUT!
Four goals by different
players marked a proud score line in the end of a game that
stuttered to get into full gear, as a hand-full of simple
chances went a begging in the early exchanges.
Even a 23 minute unscheduled
power outage intervened to force the teams to rethink their
strategies. Strikers Rafiek Thomas, Richard West in tandem
with Loxely Thomas were the main offenders as they failed to
convert a continuous flow of goal scoring opportunities
created from crosses and squares angled from both sides of the
field.
Good players come good sooner
than later, so it came as no surprise in minute 42 as the
half-time break beckoned, up popped the burly Gregory Simpson
with a thunderous left footed pile-driver from 32 yards. It
crashed with malicious intent into the goalkeepers chest and
spilled out onto the ground in front of his bulging eyes as
Richard West was ready to pounce and slipped it wide of him,
to belatedly open the goal-scoring chart relieving the
supporters tension and making enough time for the
stout-hearted goalkeeper to catch back his breathe.
1-0 at halftime, were we
distracted or was this team better than we expected and if so
to prove, as their jubilant spectators shouted from the stands
"we are as good as dem".
The riot-act read within the
confines of the changing room a more purposeful team strode
out onto the pitch very early in the second half to put all
the detractors firmly in the hospital zone where "Silence" is
forever observed.
The passing game instituted,
smooth simple movements were climaxed by crosses, squares,
chips and smashing shots. Minute 53 Richard Edwards slammed a
27 yards torpedo into the roof of the net as the custodian
sort cover beneath it.
The door flung wide open, the
tempo upped and the sweet sound of balls passing decorated the
stadium as smiles adorned the faces in the stands punctuated
by the odd joke from the supporters who knows the... the time
is nigh!
Robert Scarlett again races
down the flank before slipping a neat pass into the path of
Rafiek Thomas who dismisses a defender before scoring at the
far post, 3-0 after 63 minutes.
Substitutions dominate as more
youngsters get a chance to impress the coaching staff. Anthony
Christie scores a penalty in minute 79 after winning it, when
his goal bound header was blocked by a defenders hand.
The night ended when the entire
stadium stood up to "Welcome Home" the six Harbour View Reggae
Boyz direct from the airport on their return from Hong Kong
where they won the prestigious "Lunar Cup" 2007. Defeating
China 5-4 on penalties in the Final after a 0-0 scoreline.
Captain, Donald Stewart, Oniel
Smith, Fabian Taylor, Jermaine Taylor, Lovel Palmer
and new hitman Kavin Bryan.
Congratulations
all!!!
The replay is on March 7th in

HARBOUR VIEW
STINGS AUGUST TOWN WITH 2-0 DEFEAT AT UWI!
Young Guns fires “The Stars
of the East” into semifinals.
Goals by Rafiek Thomas and
Richard West on both sides of the half were too much for the
bubbly August Town. The newly promoted campaigners mounted
numerous attacks through former Harbour View midfielder,
Daniel Shaw but ended empty-handed as goalkeeper Michaud
“Button” Barrett and Captain, Clifton Waugh marshalled the
defensive unit to play sensible tactical football in negating
advances under very windy conditions.
Senior players Christopher
Harvey, Robert Scarlett and Richard Edwards stabilised the
back to allow the lesser experienced players to perform
without pressure as they established themselves as more than
able competitors at this level.
With players returning from
injuries or being sidelined because of others outstanding
performances getting another chance to display their skills,
they grabbed it with both hands and made an impressive
statement about their readiness and requested more playing
time when the full squad is available.
National duties for six (6)
players in Hong Kong with the Reggae Boyz and new Coach ‘Bora’
Mulitinovic and young goalkeeper Dwayne Miller, off on
National Under 20 duties as well it created a deep void that
was capably filled. Gregg Taylor and Kevin King also return
soon from the United States of America being excused by the
team management, on family business.
Rafiek scored in minute 32
after headed on a Scarlett corner, he again was first to react
and blasted home a left-footed stunner on the turn from 16
yards into the roof of the net to assume the lead.
Substitute Richard West
celebrated his long awaited return to the Premier League after
being in Canada until January when he finished of a slick
eight man,
one touch sequence of passes by
slotting out of the reach of the goalkeeper in the 88th minute
to close the game on a high.
Waterhouse are the semifinal
opponents at the National Stadium on Sunday, February 25th
followed by defending Champions Boys Town against Tivoli
Gardens.
The finals are set for
Wednesday, February 28th, 2007.
Sunday,
February 4th, 2007.
HARBOUR VIEW
DEFEATS BOY’S TOWN TO REMAIN LEAGUE LEADERS!
The “Stars of the East” miss
countless goal-scoring opportunities to win narrowly.
UNDER 21:
Goals by twin strikers Lawrence
Smith and newly returning National Under 17, 20 and 23
representative now Captain, Richard West helped us to a
gripping 2-2 draw away to the “Colour Red”.
Smith converted the only goal
scored in the first half when he scored from the penalty spot
after West was hacked down while he advanced goal-ward.
A desperate all out attacking ploy by the hosts paid off
handsomely when they struck twice within five minutes, late in
the second half only to see Harbour View hit back in minute 84
through West heading home.
A last minute series of passes
petered-out inside the penalty area when both Harbour View
players failed to communicate properly and as a result not
take the clear shot gifted to them through the industry of
their team-mates.
PREMIER LEAGUE:
A
blistering start that created no fewer than four real
goal-scoring opportunities for Harbour View within the first
20 minutes were all wasted, only to see Boys Town player
Denzil Watson, counter-attack and capitalize on poor defensive
organization to shoot into a virtually empty goal after 23
minutes.
Seemingly awaken to the
reality, striker Fabian Taylor quickly restored the balance
when he struck a clean swerving shot into the goal from 20
yards seven minutes later.
The lead was assumed in the
41st minute when Kavin Bryan burst away from the defender down
the left to square as Kemeel Wolfe glanced it home inside the
far post to lead at halftime, with National Coach “Velibor
“Bora” Mulitinovic in attendance.
The dominance was continued in
the second half as Bryan again outran the defender this time
he picked his spot sweetly beside the custodian to score his
ninth goal this season. 3-1 in the 55th minute, the game
seemingly over the visitors continued to press forward.
When Captain Lovel Palmer hit
home a beautiful volley 7 minutes later after running by two
defenders it spelt disaster as the temperatures raised.
The entire crowd including the Boys Town bench, was stunned
when referee Hughill Thompson signaled offside?
Another defensive miscue in
clearing left forward, George Vernal all alone with the ball
inside the penalty area to shot past the now stranded
goalkeeper Dwayne Miller to score 3-2 and restore some
respectability to the scoreline only as the game was truly
over sometime ago.
Harbour View is now the first
qualifier for the End of Second Round Final with 23 points.
Our next game closes the Round against Tivoli Gardens on
Sunday but may change to Monday based on the Jamaica Football
Federation (JFF) Congress on Sunday.

HARBOUR VIEW
OUTSCORED 2-3 BY W-CONNECTION IN CFU CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
SEMIFINAL THRILLER IN TRINIDAD & TOBAGO!
Two late goals rally by
jamaicans falls just short in the end.
 |
|
Captain Lovel
Palmer in Harbour View's CFU Club Championship First
Round Match |
Donald Stewart and Fabian
Taylor hit back in minutes 82 and 88 respectively to close the
gap but could not equalize despite a last minute flurry as
W-Connection had built up a very sizable 3-0 margin after 69
minutes that had already put them in a winning position.
A most competitive first half
entertained the small crowd of over 300 spectators as both
teams filled with good ball handlers exhibited excellent
tactical awareness in combatting each others attacks after
prolonged possession.
The game broke wide open as it
approached the break on 43 minutes.
A quick counter-attacking
movement swept the ball to the half-line in two passes as a 40
yard diagonal to the edge of the penalty area was intercepted
by Jermaine Taylor ahead of the forward and his own on-rushing
custodian, Dwayne Miller for the diminutive forward, Andrew
Toussiant to capitalise on and tap into an empty net.
1-0 soon became 2-0 four
minutes later in the most cruel way, in time added on by the
referee when in defending a corner a player from each team
became entangled in their attempt to go for a ball that was
cleared away ahead of them.
To the chagrin if the visitors
they saw the referee indicate a penalty followed by a caution
to Donald Stewart and then the persistent protesting of Robert
Scarlett who voiced loudly the vulgar injustice inflicted upon
the jamaicans at a crucial time of the game.
2-0 down and a large damper on
the spirit, while both coaches voiced there sharp disagreement
to the official's decision at the half-time, they quickly
guided the team to respond positively with class,
determination and a greater sense of purpose to rise above it
all and win the game despite of the injustice.
A more aggressive approach
imposed by the "Stars of the East" from the start of the
second half meant Harbour View pounded away at the Trinidadian
Champions goal-mouth with 3 shots and 3 corners in the first
ten minutes as an all out assault from angles was launched
with dangerous intentions.
The defense tested, midfield
under pressure the smooth flowing W-Connection stood their
ground while imposing their slick ball movement across the
field before implementing selected counter-attacks.
Success smiled on them once
more in minute 68 when another 3 passing movement orchestrated
on the left about the half-line was only detoured by the
retreating Oniel Smith but the last gasp toe-poke to across
the face of the goal found captain,Earl John along with an
empty goal to tap into despite Dwayne Miller's most gallant
effort to stop was founded to be too late.
3-0 down, and a massive
mountain to climb the true spirit of Harbour View again soared
as so as not to be defied, like lions they roared forward with
greater determination.
Newly found vigor born out of
determination, the physical superiority kicked in along with
the never-say-die attitude pumping through their veins the
"Stars of the East" shone brightest in the last 20 minutes to
rally in amazing fashion as the largely partisan Trini crowd
was dumb-struck with silence as they chopped away at the
deficit minute by minute.
The Panamanian referee answered
many questions of time remaining as the Trini's desperately
hung on for dear life while still managing to impose a few
serious counter-attacks but with no further success the Stars
of the East kept pressing forward in search of further
Caribbean glory.
Unfortunately, the final
whistle sounded and ended the journey towards our second
Caribbean crown, 2-3.

HARBOUR VIEW
LAUNCHES AN ALL OUT ASSAULT ON CHAMPIONS WATERHOUSE TO STRIDE
INTO THE LEAD AFTER INFLICTING A CONVINCING 3-1 DEFEAT AT THE
“COMPOUND”!
 |
|
Harbour
View celebrating Fabian Taylor's goal |
The highly charged tension
permiated the atmosphere as massive crowd kept the turnstiles
swinging throughout the night, long after the 7pm start time.
Hustling for a seat in their
favourite areas around the stadium, the varying shades of
yellows and blues were troublesome to distinguish only at
first glance but quickly the brighter yellow and richer Blue
tones of the homesters marked their territories assigned to
the “Stars of the East” who came to shine in the evening sky
both on the field and in the stands.
Referee Howard Stennett blasted
his whistle to initiate play. Immediately Fabian Taylor, Kavin
Bryan and Lovel Palmer roared forward in attack at a most
ferocious pace threatening the visitor bastion but were
delayed until the 17th minutes before they breached the
defensive network of the Champions. 22 year old Bryan in one
of his now familiar deft body swerves collect a pass from
Taylor at the top of the box on the left and darted skilfully
into the penalty area pass the defender only to be crudely
hacked to the ground by Demar Philips retreating to cover his
team-mate.
The resultant penalty was
calmly converted by Robert Scarlett before he jogged away in
ecstacy. 1-0. The second strike came 4 minutes later when
Scarlett streaked down his favoured left flank to cross as
Palmer rose best at the back post to nod to Taylor about the
penalty spot with his back to goal and Marco McDonald closely
marking. In a jiffy he swerved left then right dismissing
McDonald in the process before releasing a thunderbolt into
the roof of the net, then celebrated his third in the last
three games.
The bit-between-their-teeth the
“Stars of the East” momentarily threatened to go on a rout but
Oniel Smith’s header soared high from six yards as the pace
quicken to lightening speed. Game on! The Champions that they
are Waterhouse sort and found a way back into the game, when
in the 40th minute the veteran Irvino English curled a
free-kick into the goal area for McDonald the snare a neat
header inside the back post off the fingertips of a flying 20
year old custodian Dwayne Miller, who touched but could not
stop the ball entering his goal.
The half ends 2-1. Pride
damaged, the rough and ready charge was bellowed out of the
stout-hearted men from Drewsland as the gorged ahead manfully
placing there attacking cards on the table up to the hour mark
but without reaping further success, the patient Harbour View
started coupling passes regularly across the park before
accentuating possession with a torrid shot by Kemeel Wolfe
that went wide.
 |
|
Kemeel Wolfe |
Slowly the pace increased as
the substitutions were introduced with Kevin King, Kemar
Petrekin and finally Loxely Thomas taking away the game from
the tiring visitors who looked a beaten bunch only very late
in the game, after Wolfe in minute 86, was on hand once again
to latch on to a Richard McCallum spilt ball when Smith’s
fierce free-kick came across the face of the goal.
Curtain were drawn, as the
highly entertaining top-of-the-table clash came to a quiet end
as the large support group from Waterhouse streamed out of the
stadium disappointed with the result but knowing fully well
they were defeated by the better team on the night.
A mouth-watering fourth meeting
in this season beckons as the saga continues with great
anticipation, maybe as early as the replay of the End of First
Round Finals between both teams.
Harbour View on 43 points leads
the League and now also qualifies while Waterhouse and Reno ,
who won again today battles for the second place in the Round
Two.

Fabian
Taylor’s late, late strike earns 10 man Harbour View another
gutsy victory in four days at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.
Substitute Fabian Taylor
actually smiled this time, as he outfoxed the brilliant
Wadadah goalkeeper, Gavin Barrett in the 90th minute to earn a
nail-biting victory over Wadadah in island’s western coastal
town of Trelawny at the Village United Complex, where the team
travelled and snatched victory only four days prior.
Entering the field in the 63rd
minutes the experienced striker Taylor got into the game
immediately combining with in-form striker, Kavin Bryan and
partnering midfielder Kemeel Wolfe before taking up the lone
striker’s position when Bryan was substituted twelve minutes
later.
With time running out captain,
Lovel Palmer shunted to team-mate Kemar Petrekin resulting in
a slick pass from the other sub, as Fabian calmly turned his
marker to his left before squeezing of the most delicate slice
inside the far right upright to streak to the corner flag in
exaltation, as the entire team erupted in a frenzy.
The bench went completely wild,
as the larger than usual throng of travelling Harbour View
supporters who made the over 100 miles trek into the west,
jumped for joy all around the ground. Moments later they
invaded the field as the referee signalled the end just after
the kick-off.
The game dominated from the
start by the visitors and moreso in the second stanza should
have been won on at least five other occasions but good
positional goalkeeping and below par finishing on the day
delayed that. The team showing better discipline following
Gregg Taylor's rash foul that rightly earned him a red card as
early as the eighteenth minute for stomping at a player.
This left the team reeling to
survive initially before launching regular attacks while
gaining advantage in possession. An understanding of the very
difficult bumpy field complicated by a cross-the-field high
wind factor from the nearby Caribbean Sea, having played there
earlier that week.
40 points leaves both Harbour
View and Waterhouse perched at the top of the table as we both
clash this Wednesday at the “Stars of the East” home ground at
7pm.
Under 21:
Goals from Michily Waul,
Lawrence Smith and young Cleyon Brown distanced the young
“Stars of the East” from the woeful Wadadah by 3-0 to stay in
contention as the third place team on 22 points, 6 behind the
leaders.

Harbour View
achieve a workmanlike 2-1 victory over Village United at the
Elliston Wakeland Centre.
Substitute Fabian Taylor almost
smiled as he tucked away Kavin Bryan’s cross in the 75th
minute to seal the hard worked victory over Village United,
who takes special pride from denting the progress of the top
of the table teams.
In a game that would never make
the “Hall of Fame Classics” as both teams did their best to
out perform the heavy cross-field sea-breeze after struggling
to control the frantic bounces from the balls hopping and
skipping over the large bumpy surface.
Looking to set the record
straight after losing to Village United in their first
encounter this season at the “Compound”, the
“Stars-of-the-East” shone brightly in the second minute of the
game when goalkeeper Elvis Hart fumbled the ball, only for
goal-poacher Kavin Bryan to toe-poke home from 5 yards and
assume the lead.
Village launched offences but
spurned two good opportunities and never equalised before 7
minutes into the second half when the diagonal ball bounced
loose from the crowded far post area and the cross was tapped
home by Luke Tate.
As the temperatures rose and
substitution were introduced the experience of Fabian Taylor
was clearly an advantage as he weaved his way into the fabric
of the game to snap up the vital goal and with it three points
to remain joint leader of the League.
On Sunday we play away again,
in Trelawny against Wadadah.
Claude Davis delighted as Shelton heads
for Sheffield United
KAYON RAYNOR, Observer staff reporter

Luton
Shelton was a member of the youth development programme at
Harbour View FC from ages 12 yrs - 20 yrs. Transferred to
Helsinborg only 8 months ago, he has made it into
the big league through his continuous high level
performance in scoring 17 goals at a young age. |
Sheffield United's Jamaican
international defender Claude Davis says he is eager to have
his compatriot Luton Shelton join him at the club in the
English Premier League.
Davis, who joined Sheffield
United from Championship side Preston North End at the
beginning of the season, was particularly delighted with the
impending transfer, having personally recommended the player
to his club's manager, Neil Warnock.
"To be honest with you, it's
good, because the more Jamaicans we have over here, the better
it is for the country and the football in the country ... and
Luton is a good player," Davis told the Observer, as he
reacted to news that the speedy striker had agreed terms to
join Sheffield United, pending a medical and work permit. "I
was the one who really recommended him to my gaffer
(manager)... I recommended him and Ricardo Fuller 'cause he
said he needed strikers," the big defender revealed from his
home in Sheffield, England, last evening.
Yesterday, Sheffield United
reported on its website that it had agreed a deal with Shelton
for a fee in the region of £2 million from Swedish first
division club Helsingborgs.
According to Sheffield United's
website: "The international team-mate of Claude Davis has also
agreed personal terms with United and formalities and
appropriate clearance is expected to be completed later this
week.

match at The Emirates Stadium in London, England. (Photo: AP)
"Shelton, just 21, is one of
the targets watched by Neil Warnock on his European scouting
mission in December and the Blades management staff has kept a
close eye on his progress."
Yesterday, Helsingborgs also
confirmed that the tall, skillful Jamaican will be joining the
English Premier League club for an undisclosed sum.
And a local daily Helsingborgs
Dagblad reported that: "The Jamaican would join his new club
on Tuesday or Wednesday."
Shelton's move to the EPL was
negotiated by agent Phillip Graham, who had secured Shelton's
previous deal with Helsingborgs after the Reggae Boy was
denied a work permit by the British Home Office to join
English Championship side Burnley in 2005.
Meanwhile, Davis hinted that he
could not wait for all the details to be ironed out to start
playing with Shelton in the premiership.
"Luton is like family, so to
speak, 'cause the more family you have around you the more
comfortable you'll be, and when you're comfortable, you play
your best football," the former Portmore United captain
reasoned.
Shelton, who scored nine times
to help Helsingborgs finish fourth in the league last season,
admitted that the experience gained in the Scandinavian
country playing with veteran striker Henrik Larsson has made
him into a better player.
"Playing with a striker that
has played with the best team in the world (Barcelona), I
learned a lot from him. He taught me a lot and made me feel
more confident playing, giving me the confidence to play
anywhere," Shelton stated in an interview on HITZ 92 FM's
sports magazine programme Sports Grill yesterday.
The striker, who started his
career with Wray & Nephew National Premier League campaigners
Harbour View, actually scored 17 goals in 28 competitive
matches for Helsingborgs. He also scored five times in helping
the Swedish team win the Cup knockout and advance to the UEFA
Cup play-offs.

HARBOUR VIEW
WINS TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH 1-0 OVER FOURTH PLACED PORTMORE
UNITED!
Oniel "Bigga" Smith's
perfect lob does the trick.
In
a keenly contested game that could have gone either way, a
swift half-line interception from ace National defender
Jermaine Taylor was quickly converted into the most deadly
counter-attacking move, swung to the far post onto the head of
Gregg Taylor who headed into the path of Oniel Smith on the
edge of the area.
In a classical manoeuver, he
pivoted as he controlled the ball then his perfectly weighted
lob embarrassed National Goalkeeper Shawn Sawyers who had
advanced a few paces to block the drive in the 40th minute.
The half ended at the same 1-0
advantage to the "Stars of the East" as they survived an early
scare as National Under 20 goalkeeper, Dwayne Miller made an
astonishing save from point blank range in minute 24.
Rapturous applause exploded
around the ground as a series of strikes on goal was
stubbornly defender by the entire Portmore backline to block
shots from Kavin Bryan, then Gregg Taylor before it rebounded
all the way to the half-line for Oniel Smith's long range
effort to drift inches wide of the goalpost, with Sawyers
beaten and desperately trying to get back into his goal.
In the presence of new
Technical Director Velibor "Bora" Munitinovic the sleigh of
National Players, past and present, exhibited the skills but
the nature of the game quickly veered from passing to tackling
as the rush for points was primarily on the minds of both
Coaches.
The combative game simmered in
the second half but no goals ensued as disciplined defensive
approaches of the coaches dominated the proceedings.
Harbour View hence joined
Waterhouse as leaders of the League both on 34 points
following Waterhouse's 1-1, drawn game against Arnett Gardens.
Under 21:
Eric Vernan's 22nd minute
convertion was enough to gain victory over the hosts who put
up a gallant effort particularly in the second half but could
not breach the solid defensive network set up by Portmore
United.
Harbour View travels to the
western Jamaica this week to take on Village United in midweek
followed by Wadadah on the weekend.

Harbour View
FC wins group of 16 Jackie Bell Knockout over Bull Bay!
The
“Stars of the East” made heavy weather of a “Home town Derby”
against neighbours Bull Bay at the Bull Pen earlier this
afternoon, in the end a hard fought 5-3 Penalty Kicks victory
was what they had to show for their labour.
The game began with marksman
Fabian Taylor missing one of many Oniel Smith’s trademark
crosses from three yards after four minutes as he missed
kicked at the far post.
Two minutes later returning
International defender Christopher Harvey, headed straight to
forward Jermaine Edwards who easily placed the shot to the
right of goalkeeper Dwayne Miller who was left stranded to
open the scoring.
Bull Bay’s 1-0 advantage would
hold until minute 83 when two substitutes combined to equalise
and save the visitors some blushes. Kevin King pounced on
another Smith pass down the right flank before squaring to
Kemar Petrekin who slid the ball under the body of the diving
custodian to easy the pressure that had built up steadily
throughout the game.
Inadequate finishing from
substitute Kavin Bryan on two occasions, King’s header was
missed at the back post, Wolfe miscued then Taylor’s searching
right-footer and Scarlett’s flashing left-footer went just
wide with the goalkeeper beaten. It looked like a long lost
afternoon as the sun began to set the cheers of the Bull Bay
supporters grew louder but the expected was imminent soon
after conceding the goal, the only question left was, when?
Extra-time proved to delay the
predictable but the dreaded penalty kicks eventually separated
the teams by perfect executions from all the Harbour View
kickers from Jermaine Taylor, Robert Scarlett, Christopher
Harvey, Kemeel Wolfe to the final celebration of his winner by
Kevin King.
On Sunday Harbour View plays
against Portmore United in the Premier League.
Monday, January 8th,2007.
Harbour View FC starts the New Year with
two victories in the Premier League!
Under 21 hits August Town
for four!
Under 21:
After not playing in the
initial contest scheduled for last Wednesday afternoon against
Seba, the Juniors stamped their class on the proceedings on
Sunday when goals from John Ross Edwards, Anthony Christie
then Michily Waul and substitute Shamar Shelton in the second
half crushed the homesters at the UWI Bowl to relaunch their
battle to climb up the table from their mid-table position.
Premier League:
Last Wednesday, January 4th
marked the restart to the League that was delayed over the
last three and a half weeks firstly by the threat of a Malaria
outbreak in the island followed by an unscheduled break for
the Christmas Holidays.
Analysis:
The untimely break caused the
predictable fluctuations in the players form, pace and skill
levels hence results could be erratic.
So it was for many teams who
turned up in varying stages of performance levels.
Games at Jarrett Park were
rescheduled off then on again, Boys Town versus Reno game was
halted by gunshots in the environs. Waterhouse lost their
unbeaten record after sixteen games was broken at home by
Village United who defeated another league leader are second
only to Reno at their newly adopted home at STETHS are
relishing a renewed life at the top of the League after
possible more than a decade took another major scalp as Tivoli
Gardens hot streak of 7 games undefeated was halted.
Arnett Gardens lost the battle
of the “Gardens” before returning to win against Naggo Head
who are constantly losing. Seba changed Coaches four times in
the last five games and Wadadah seeks to get positive results
after the “Holiday” season, match rescheduling and to settle
down to train according to Coach Follis Williams after
conceding four goals against Portmore United yesterday.
Harbour View are the only team
to have won both games since the restart in 2007 with a 4-1
victory at home over Seba then edging August Town by 3-2
yesterday. In both games the performance levels differed
greatly in the first half as against the second. Because of
the attacking prowess was good enough to bail us out of the
problems, we have to guard against poor defending that has
shown an intention to return after the break, although we have
been benefiting from outstanding goalkeeping from young Dwayne
Miller.

Harbour View 4 Seba 1:
An
early strike from skipper Lovel Palmer after 6 minutes as he
pounced on a loose ball around the penalty spot lead the way.
Kemeel Wolfe scored his first goal for the Club as he worked
his way inside the penalty area before slipping it under
Loxely Reid the Seba custodian at his near post after 29
minutes. Kavin Bryan had a simple tap in at the far post after
Richard Edwards set up the play bypassing the goalkeeper.
Gregg Taylors penalty in minute 41 capped of a fine first half
when Bryan was brought down.
The second half the “Stars of
the East” went to sleep and Seba came to life. As Dwayne
Miller pulled of no less than four fine saves before Wilfred
Smith’s header in the 81st minute was to evade his grasp.
Harbour View 3 August Town
2:
The early strike again from
Gregg Taylor, who reacted first to Lovel Palmer’s deflected
free-kick was how the games lead was ensured after 13 minutes.
Palmer was clearly the “Man of
the Match” as two other strikes by him sealed the game for the
visitors. Reduced to ten men by a questionable refereeing
decision against returning Club International Christopher
“Jamel” Harvey from Trinidad and Tobago Club Champions
W-Connection after just 48 minutes meant an exceptional game
was required.
When the poor kick-out by
opposing custodian, Devon Haughton was intercepted Palmer
blasted an accurate 32 yard drive goalwards for the fumbling
goalkeeper to parry but not stop from rolling over the line in
minute 58.
Then a solid 2-0 lead was
squandered as August Town roared back intop contention when
forward Crooks controlled on his chest before scoring from
beside the penalty spot in minute . Another defensive error
let in a scramble for the ball as Jermaine Taylor challenge
was deemed a foul hence a penalty, converted by returning
resident linkman, Daniel Shaw in the 81st minute.
On the stroke fulltime Clifton
Waugh free-kick found the head of another substitute Rafiek
Thomas, who flicked it on to the far post for Captain, Lovel
Palmer to hit the back of the net from 7 yards in time added
on, to win the game and remain second in the standings with 31
points, behind Waterhouse on 33 points.

Harbour View
Defeated 1- 2 by Reno at STETHS
Garfield Myers
Observer staff reporter
Reno.................................................. 2
Williams (4th), Wright (11th)
Harbour View................................... 1 Bryan (9th)
SANTA
CRUZ, St Elizabeth - It was easily their least convincing
performance since their temporary switch of home base from
Frome to Santa Cruz two months ago.
But at the end of 90 minutes
plus yesterday, Reno FC had surged to a 2-1 win over mighty
Harbour View at the STETHS Sports Complex here, in the process
displacing the east Kingston side for second place in the Wray
and Nephew National Premier League (NPL).
Before a fair-sized crowd, on a
pitch softened by persistent light, Martin Williams gave Reno
the lead in the fourth minute only for Harbour View's Kavin
Bryan to find the equaliser in the ninth minute. But just two
minutes later (11th minute), Reno striker Kirk Wright, popped
up to provide the winner.
In another match yesterday,
August Town and Village played to a 1-1 scoreline. The Boys'
Town-Arnett Gardens and the Tivoli Gardens-Naggo Head games
were called off due the malaria crisis in the western belt of
the city.
But at STETHS, the opening goal
came with Reno's first attack of real purpose. The short,
stockily built Williams turned rapidly on a pass from midfield
and powered between central defenders to boot his low
right-footer past the advancing Michaud Barrett, in goal for
Harbour View.
Unperturbed, Harbour View,
passing and combining well, found the equaliser when the
impressive, strongly built Bryan got his boot to Gregg
Taylor's powerful shot from the left of the penalty box,
finding the net as Reno's national Under-20 goalkeeper, Dwayne
Kerr was left for dead.
But the Reno home support was
soon shouting and dancing again, as Wright breaking free of
defenders, knocked home Williams' cross from the right.
The game swung from end to end
for the rest of the half. But in the second half there was no
doubting Harbour View's supremacy in ball possession and
potency of attack.
With
the second half just a few minutes old, Reno supporters held
their breath as Loxley Thomas dribbled diagonally through the
heart of the Reno defence but saw his low shot from the left
roll across the face of goal.
Then the big, powerful Kerr at
full stretch was just able to palm Thomas' looping header over
the bar. And 10 minutes later Kerr diving low to his right
held Bryan's goal-bound header from taylor's right-sided
cross.
Reno countering, found Harbour
View short at the back but Ricardo Scott's right foot shot was
stopped by Barrett.
An overlapping Oneil Smith
should have found the equaliser for Harbour View with almost
the final kick of the game, but his casual lob with the
defence beaten and Kerr hopelessly out of position, went high.
A pleased Reno coach Wendell
Downswell said his team did what it set out to do. "We wanted
three points and we got it and it is particularly pleasing
that we beat one of the top four teams. From here we just plan
to go from strength to strength," he said.
Harbour View's Lenworth Hyde
felt his team paid the price for missing too many chances. But
he also paid tribute to Kerr. "The Reno goalkeeper made the
difference," he said.

Girls are The New Sherwin Williams/Women's Premier League
Champions
Success long overdue, says

Trophy after they defeated Portmore Strikers 4-1 in the second
leg final at Waterhouse mini-stadium yesterday. (Photo:

Harbour View FC gained their
first hold on the Sherwin Williams/Women's Premier League
title when they defeated former champions and arch-rivals
Portmore Strikers, 4-1, for a 5-2 aggregate win at the
Waterhouse mini-stadium yesterday.
National midfielder Kimmia
Parker (21st & 87th) bagged a double for the 'Stars of the
East', with Nicola Bell (13th) and Shanique Mitchell (63rd)
getting the other goals for the winners.
Substitute Tekamie Jolly netted
Portmore's consolation in the 73rd minute.
Earlier, in the 'A' League
final, Meadhaven overturned their 1-2 deficit against Olympic
Gardens, to win the second-leg game 3-1 for a 4-3 aggregate
result.
The Vin Blaine-coached Harbour
View were excellent throughout the match and could have won by
a larger margin.
As early as the fifth minute,
Mitchell was picked out by Peta-Gaye Soman at the far post,
but she headed over the bar from close range.
Minutes later, she broke loose
but was denied by goalkeeper Peatria Campbell.
In the 12th minute, Parker
broke away but shot over the bar from the edge of the area.
However, Bell won possession from the resulting spot kick and
dribbled through the Portmore defence before shotting past
Campbell in goal.
Eight minutes later, Parker
made it 2-0 when she hit a superb left-footed volley past
Campbell, following a good build-up.
Portmore's attack was nullified
for most of the half, and despite consistently getting into
the area, did not create any real goal-scoring chance.
But they did come out with a
lot of purpose in the second half, and Tashawna Vincent had
two good opportunities, but could not make them count.
A minute later, Vincent muffed
her second chance and Mitchell made it 3-0 when she latch onto
a clinical pass from Bell, weaved through three defenders and
fired home.
Portmore pulled a goal back 10
minutes later when goalkeeper Paula Jackson spilled Iesha
Mowatt's cross and Jolly was on hand to tuck away the
opportunity from three yards.
In the closing 15 minutes,
Harbour View wasted a number of easy chances to increase their
tally, with Mitchell being the main culprit.
However, with three minutes to
go Parker made it 4-1 when she beat the offside trap and
calmly slotted past Campbell from the edge of the box.
After four finals, winning
coach Vin Blaine said this success was "long overdue".
"We have never capitalised on
our early chances against them, but today we scored early and
put them on the backfoot," he said.
"But we should have put away
the game from last week and today we should have gone into the
second half leading by three or four goals," he added.
Portmore's coach Cornell Clarke
said too many of his players performed poorly in the game.
"I did not expect such a bad
game from them, and when they needed to lift their game it
just did not happen," he said.
Managing director of sponsors
Sherwin Williams, Ian Forbes, said his company was pleased
with the standard of play and progress of the league, and
hoped to spread the game to all 14 parishes. He also hinted
that there would be an increase in sponsorship next season.
"Every year we hope to improve
things and next year I'm certain that the clubs and the
Federation will be pleased with what we have to offer," he
said.

HARBOUR VIEW
FC defeats Centro Baber by 2-0 to win Zone A of the 2006 CFU
Caribbean Club Championship!.
Kavin Bryan becomes leading
goalscorer with three goals from two games.
GAME 5:
Positive Vibes 3 Aigle Noir
2
Positive
Vibes of US Virgin Islands register their first victory of a
3-2 win over Aigle Noir of Haiti to finish third.
They came determined to leave
the “Land of Wood and Water” with a victory attached to their
name and as such they pushed forward into attack early to be
rewarded when Captain, Ernest Baron got up to converted a
penalty after 20 minutes.
Then the experience of
Collister Fahie came to the fore when he outsmarted the Aigle
Noir backline to beat the offside trap and lob over the head
of the unrushing custodian La Paix Yves Edouard into the
unprotected goal after 31 minutes.
Gifted with a surprise two-goal
margin the confidence of the men from the Virgin Islands
soared as the Haitian contingent looked unsure in possession
and attack. It only got better initially in the second half as
the substitute Daren Francis tapped home from close range in
the 64th minute for what seemed a secure 3-0 lead.
Aigle Noir now faced with yet
another stalk defeat, finally summoned up some attacking
courage to score in the 85th and 89th minutes through
substitute Weeklenky Bernard then Wedson Anselme to salvage
some pride, while securing an acceptable looking 2-3 defeat.
GAME 6:
Harbour View FC 2 Centro
Baber 0.
The
eleventh minutes strike from the boot of Kavin Bryan to finish
off a right-sided cross from Loxely Thomas was exactly what
the Technical Staff needed, to go ahead of Curacao’s Centro
Baber early.
Centro Baber had come closest
to opening the scoring when a ball played across the goal was
won by Kemmeth Kumst and he turned it onto the upright before
it being cleared far upfield by Waugh. Then again after the
goal was scored, when Perez slipped inside two defenders to
head wide of the near post as it gazed at him from just 5
yards away.
With those scares behind them
the host pressed forward to inflict another telling blow
before halftime but that was not to be.
The hosts Harbour View FC who
only had a 1-0 goal advantage aimed now to score more than two
unanswered goals to win the Zone A and advance to the
semi-finals and/or Finals.
