Harbour View
Defeated 1- 2 by Reno at STETHS

Harbour View................................... 1 Bryan (9th)
SANTA
CRUZ, St Elizabeth - It was easily their least convincing
performance since their temporary switch of home base from
Frome to Santa Cruz two months ago.
But at the end of 90 minutes
plus yesterday, Reno FC had surged to a 2-1 win over mighty
Harbour View at the STETHS Sports Complex here, in the process
displacing the east Kingston side for second place in the Wray
and Nephew National Premier League (NPL).
Before a fair-sized crowd, on a
pitch softened by persistent light, Martin Williams gave Reno
the lead in the fourth minute only for Harbour View's Kavin
Bryan to find the equaliser in the ninth minute. But just two
minutes later (11th minute), Reno striker Kirk Wright, popped
up to provide the winner.
In another match yesterday,
August Town and Village played to a 1-1 scoreline. The Boys'
Town-Arnett Gardens and the Tivoli Gardens-Naggo Head games
were called off due the malaria crisis in the western belt of
the city.
But at STETHS, the opening goal
came with Reno's first attack of real purpose. The short,
stockily built Williams turned rapidly on a pass from midfield
and powered between central defenders to boot his low
right-footer past the advancing Michaud Barrett, in goal for
Harbour View.
Unperturbed, Harbour View,
passing and combining well, found the equaliser when the
impressive, strongly built Bryan got his boot to Gregg
Taylor's powerful shot from the left of the penalty box,
finding the net as Reno's national Under-20 goalkeeper, Dwayne
Kerr was left for dead.
But the Reno home support was
soon shouting and dancing again, as Wright breaking free of
defenders, knocked home Williams' cross from the right.
The game swung from end to end
for the rest of the half. But in the second half there was no
doubting Harbour View's supremacy in ball possession and
potency of attack.
With
the second half just a few minutes old, Reno supporters held
their breath as Loxley Thomas dribbled diagonally through the
heart of the Reno defence but saw his low shot from the left
roll across the face of goal.
Then the big, powerful Kerr at
full stretch was just able to palm Thomas' looping header over
the bar. And 10 minutes later Kerr diving low to his right
held Bryan's goal-bound header from taylor's right-sided
cross.
Reno countering, found Harbour
View short at the back but Ricardo Scott's right foot shot was
stopped by Barrett.
An overlapping Oneil Smith
should have found the equaliser for Harbour View with almost
the final kick of the game, but his casual lob with the
defence beaten and Kerr hopelessly out of position, went high.
A pleased Reno coach Wendell
Downswell said his team did what it set out to do. "We wanted
three points and we got it and it is particularly pleasing
that we beat one of the top four teams. From here we just plan
to go from strength to strength," he said.
Harbour View's Lenworth Hyde
felt his team paid the price for missing too many chances. But
he also paid tribute to Kerr. "The Reno goalkeeper made the
difference," he said.

Girls are The New Sherwin Williams/Women's Premier League
Champions
Success long overdue, says

Trophy after they defeated Portmore Strikers 4-1 in the second
leg final at Waterhouse mini-stadium yesterday. (Photo:

Harbour View FC gained their
first hold on the Sherwin Williams/Women's Premier League
title when they defeated former champions and arch-rivals
Portmore Strikers, 4-1, for a 5-2 aggregate win at the
Waterhouse mini-stadium yesterday.
National midfielder Kimmia
Parker (21st & 87th) bagged a double for the 'Stars of the
East', with Nicola Bell (13th) and Shanique Mitchell (63rd)
getting the other goals for the winners.
Substitute Tekamie Jolly netted
Portmore's consolation in the 73rd minute.
Earlier, in the 'A' League
final, Meadhaven overturned their 1-2 deficit against Olympic
Gardens, to win the second-leg game 3-1 for a 4-3 aggregate
result.
The Vin Blaine-coached Harbour
View were excellent throughout the match and could have won by
a larger margin.
As early as the fifth minute,
Mitchell was picked out by Peta-Gaye Soman at the far post,
but she headed over the bar from close range.
Minutes later, she broke loose
but was denied by goalkeeper Peatria Campbell.
In the 12th minute, Parker
broke away but shot over the bar from the edge of the area.
However, Bell won possession from the resulting spot kick and
dribbled through the Portmore defence before shotting past
Campbell in goal.
Eight minutes later, Parker
made it 2-0 when she hit a superb left-footed volley past
Campbell, following a good build-up.
Portmore's attack was nullified
for most of the half, and despite consistently getting into
the area, did not create any real goal-scoring chance.
But they did come out with a
lot of purpose in the second half, and Tashawna Vincent had
two good opportunities, but could not make them count.
A minute later, Vincent muffed
her second chance and Mitchell made it 3-0 when she latch onto
a clinical pass from Bell, weaved through three defenders and
fired home.
Portmore pulled a goal back 10
minutes later when goalkeeper Paula Jackson spilled Iesha
Mowatt's cross and Jolly was on hand to tuck away the
opportunity from three yards.
In the closing 15 minutes,
Harbour View wasted a number of easy chances to increase their
tally, with Mitchell being the main culprit.
However, with three minutes to
go Parker made it 4-1 when she beat the offside trap and
calmly slotted past Campbell from the edge of the box.
After four finals, winning
coach Vin Blaine said this success was "long overdue".
"We have never capitalised on
our early chances against them, but today we scored early and
put them on the backfoot," he said.
"But we should have put away
the game from last week and today we should have gone into the
second half leading by three or four goals," he added.
Portmore's coach Cornell Clarke
said too many of his players performed poorly in the game.
"I did not expect such a bad
game from them, and when they needed to lift their game it
just did not happen," he said.
Managing director of sponsors
Sherwin Williams, Ian Forbes, said his company was pleased
with the standard of play and progress of the league, and
hoped to spread the game to all 14 parishes. He also hinted
that there would be an increase in sponsorship next season.
"Every year we hope to improve
things and next year I'm certain that the clubs and the
Federation will be pleased with what we have to offer," he
said.

HARBOUR VIEW
FC defeats Centro Baber by 2-0 to win Zone A of the 2006 CFU
Caribbean Club Championship!.
Kavin Bryan becomes leading
goalscorer with three goals from two games.
GAME 5:
Positive Vibes 3 Aigle Noir
2
Positive
Vibes of US Virgin Islands register their first victory of a
3-2 win over Aigle Noir of Haiti to finish third.
They came determined to leave
the “Land of Wood and Water” with a victory attached to their
name and as such they pushed forward into attack early to be
rewarded when Captain, Ernest Baron got up to converted a
penalty after 20 minutes.
Then the experience of
Collister Fahie came to the fore when he outsmarted the Aigle
Noir backline to beat the offside trap and lob over the head
of the unrushing custodian La Paix Yves Edouard into the
unprotected goal after 31 minutes.
Gifted with a surprise two-goal
margin the confidence of the men from the Virgin Islands
soared as the Haitian contingent looked unsure in possession
and attack. It only got better initially in the second half as
the substitute Daren Francis tapped home from close range in
the 64th minute for what seemed a secure 3-0 lead.
Aigle Noir now faced with yet
another stalk defeat, finally summoned up some attacking
courage to score in the 85th and 89th minutes through
substitute Weeklenky Bernard then Wedson Anselme to salvage
some pride, while securing an acceptable looking 2-3 defeat.
GAME 6:
Harbour View FC 2 Centro
Baber 0.
The
eleventh minutes strike from the boot of Kavin Bryan to finish
off a right-sided cross from Loxely Thomas was exactly what
the Technical Staff needed, to go ahead of Curacao’s Centro
Baber early.
Centro Baber had come closest
to opening the scoring when a ball played across the goal was
won by Kemmeth Kumst and he turned it onto the upright before
it being cleared far upfield by Waugh. Then again after the
goal was scored, when Perez slipped inside two defenders to
head wide of the near post as it gazed at him from just 5
yards away.
With those scares behind them
the host pressed forward to inflict another telling blow
before halftime but that was not to be.
The hosts Harbour View FC who
only had a 1-0 goal advantage aimed now to score more than two
unanswered goals to win the Zone A and advance to the
semi-finals and/or Finals.
It would take Oniel “Bigga”
Smith’s 57 minute, right cross to baffle the goalkeeper as he
hurried back into his goal, he was only good enough to deflect
it from the fingers into back of the net for goal number 2.
The result means Harbour View
Football Club advances to the semi-finals and has assisted in
organising the start of the Competition in Zones A and B next
weekend in some significant way in Jamaica

HARBOUR VIEW
FC inflicts massive 5-0 whipping on US Virgin Island Champions
Positive Vibes
to inch ahead on goal
difference in Zone A of the 2006 CFU Caribbean Club
Championship!.
Double strikes by Kavin
Bryan and Rafiek Thomas lead the way.
GAME 1:
Centro
Baber of Curacao again impress with a stylish 2-0 win over
Aigle Noir of Haiti. A smooth Counter-attacking ploy paid off
richly this evening as the slick moving attacking force lead
by Edgard Cassiana Perez , Shoyrom Bermados and Oscar Molino
Palomino shot into the lead when Perez tapped home a simply
square after just 6 minutes into the far post.
When Central Defender, Miksing
Caria earned himself an early shower after two bookable
offences after 37 minutes it seemed Haitian Champions Aigle
Noir would pounce immediately but this expectation never
realised.
A series of non-productive
passes across the field one way and then the next meant that
the defensive network setup by Centro Baber had effectively
worked to shut out the Haitians’ offensive.
When the smooth counter-attack
repeated itself in minute 76 there was a crowd sentiment that
gained unanimous acclaim “ We told you so…” as the crowd,
resigned to accept Aigle Noir’s trepidation in attack.
Captain, Shoyrom Bermados strolled the ball over the goal line
as he disposed of a hurried custodian desperate to save face.
The fact of a 0-2 defeat, shook
the mere foundation of the Haitians to the core as they
departed the tournament save for completing the fixture on 6pm
Tuesday night against joint fourth place team Positive Vibes
of US Virgin Islands for academic purposes only..
GAME 2::
Harbour View FC 5 Positve
Vibes 0.
The five
minutes strike from the boot of Kavin Bryan to finish off a
left-sided corner from Loxely Thomas cross ignited a spark in
the team that had a mission to complete by getting into
“pole-position” ahead of Curacao’s Centro Baber. After winning
2-0 for the second time Centro Baber now had six points and a
4-0 goal difference credited to them while leading the hosts
Harbour View FC who only had a 1-0 goal advantage. The aim now
was to score more than three unanswered goals!
Bryan’s goal was the catalyst
to get the action started, as the “Stars of the East” turned
up the tempo as Fabian Taylor lead from in-front when he
hammered a spanking left footer in minute 23, from an acute
angle to discourage the goalkeeper making any attempt to save
it as it flashed by him to come to rest against the white
nylon netting. Fabian would miss a simple 16 yards conversion
that flew wide as he spun around just before the half ended. .
The second half was all about
“taking care of business” and Bryan was first to score his
second goal, from close-in after 51 minutes. Substitute Rafiek
Thomas, came on in minute 56 and would immediately emerse
himself into the game then ten minutes later to score before
returning in the 80th minute to cop a fine double.
Substitutes Kemeel Woolfe and
Kevin King failed to score but both made solid impressions on
the later quarter of the game.
Tuesdays final game between
both undefeated teams promises much as both winners climax in
the afternoon’s proceedings at 8pm after both losers meet at
6pm.

HARBOUR VIEW
FC scores first 1-0 victory over Haitian Champions Aigle Noir
To inch ahead in Zone A of the 2006 CFU Caribbean Club
Championship!.
Gregg Taylor strikes in the
lucky 13th minute.
GAME 1:
Centro Baber of Curacao
leads with a 2-0 win over Positive Vibes of United States
Virgin Islands:
A slick moving attacking force
lead by Oscar Molino Palomino shot into the lead when he
pounced on a neat pass to convert after 11 minutes. Edgard
Cassiana Perez double the lead in minute 38 when he disposed
of his marker to elude the custodian and effectively seal the
victory as the second half the Curacao Champions consolidated
in defence to win hence leading the Zone on superior goal
difference.
GAME 2::
Harbour View FC 1 Aigle Noir
0.
The
early strike from the head of Gregg Taylor was enough in the
end to secure victory marked by a fair amount of opportunities
create from good ball movement of the team coupled with strong
running off the ball into attacking positions.
Six passes that was capped off
with Loxely Thomases cross finding Taylor’s head at the near
post to nod home shortly after he was cautioned.
Richard Edwards drive from
distance flew over the crossbar before Lovel Palmer’s attempt
at goal kissed the horizontal frame on its way out. The
excellent ball artistry of Fabian Taylor to hold up then
release fellow striker Gregg on top of the area was the move
of the half, as Gregg hit the custodian who was grateful to
palm behind for a corner then the half closed as Fabian’s shot
was scrambled of the line.
More self confident the host
roared forward with regularity as Donald Stewart headed
Palmer’s cross just wide, Fabians shot was deflected onto the
upright, Palmer shot wide and substitute Kemeel
Woolfe failed to tap home Fabian’s
good dribble and set cross late in the game as the wound down
the “Stars of the East” closed the door on their guest from
Haiti who played with verve and enthusiasm accentuated with
good ball handling skills at a high pace consistently
throughout the game.
Sundays triple header promises

Harbour View
starts Round Two with a 2-0 win over Naggo Head at Ferdie

Strikers - Gregg and Fabian

UNDER
21:
Come from behind second half
strikes from Lawrence Smith (Penalty) and Hodges made all the
difference as the young "Stars of the East" rallied back to
eek out the first victory in Round Two over Naggo Head, who
had included some of yesterdays Manning Cup Champions from
Bridgeport as Coach Anthony Patrick tried to repeat but found
the result not in his favour.
PREMIER LEAGUE:
Intent
to correct many defensive flaws from their first encounter in
the seasons opener at Compound. Coach Lennie Hyde
re-instituted goalkeeper Michaud Barrett "between the sticks"
after 5 games, as Dwayne Miller assumed his number one
position in the U21.
The mission’s objective, is
clearly to witness marked improvement by each custodian who
ultimately will be judged by producing a "clean slate"?
Barrett succeeded, as the newly
crowned Premier League End of Round One Champions waltzed away
with a comfortable 2-0 victory over a plucky Naggo Head unit
well marshalled on the field by the "old-hand" Baris Johnson
in defence, while newly acquired Coach Wayne "Kunta"
Fairclough guided the Team from the bench.
Non the less, Gregg Taylor
responded first to a four man combination play down the left
initiated by Nicholas Dodd, on to the head of Richard Edwards
who flicked on for Taylor to ram home from 14 yards into the
roof of the net after 13 minutes. Fabian Taylor latched onto a
swurling cross from Kevin Wooley on the right but dragged it
wide of the mark from 17 yards out. Dodd, Thomas and Palmer
all had strikes goal-ward but all drifted wide of either
upright as the goalkeeper Jovan Spence scrambled from side to
side with regularity.
He was to concede for a second
time after 62 minutes when Lovel Palmer broke down the left to
square for the arriving Fabian Taylor to head home from 9
yards.
Substitutes Kavin Bryan hit the
goalkeeper twice, Kemeel Wolfe in his debut on his former Club
grounds showed much promise with his awareness and vision
while Kevin King heightened the tempo of the game with many
bursts of pace on and off the ball.

The
long suffering supporters, coaches, managers and players of
the 32 year old “Stars of the East” Club celebrated trophy #34
as the End of Round One Silverware was finally added to the
treasure chest of the Club after failing on four previous
attempts.
Oniel Smith’s right-sided cross
was well met by the sound header from Fabian Taylor as he rose
between two defenders but McCallum kept his eyes steadfastly
on the ball snatching it back on the second attempt on the
goal line, to keep the teams equal although Waterhouse had the
most possession.
Jermaine Taylor lost control of
the high ball running back but the ensuing shot was blocked
first by Dwayne Miller but as it ran free it was again played
across the face of the goal when Clifton Waugh was earliest to
claim it as a desperate Roberto Fletcher shoved him in the
back, bundling man and ball into the goal ahead of Referee
Kevin Thomas blowing the whistle to signal “foul…no goal”.
A final dictated more by
bruising tackles as against sweet flowing ball movement
climaxed in minute

72 when a slick passing
sequence between Ricardo Smith, Loxely Thomas and to Fabian
Taylor, was polished off to perfection.
He turned his marker inside
then out to the left, leaving Craig White in his wake as the
bewildered custodian Richard McCallum dived full length in
vain as the ball rocketed into the far right post to seal the
much cherished victory. Five minutes later he returned and was
blocked just inside the area but got up to continue playing
and adding leadership to the troupes in counter-attacking mode
as more defensive formation was implemented to secure the
score-line, win, prize money and the trophy.
The physical tackles boiled
over shortly after as Oniel Smith and Demar Phillips engaged
in a holding, pushing and shoving match after being warned by
the Referee, both were duly ejected in minute 79.
When the seven minutes of time
added on slowly came to an end, the throng of gleeful
supporters rushed onto the field to share the moment with the
players, coaches and managers most of whom were celebrating
their first major Championship title at the senior level with
the Club.
Taylor quietly celebrated his
second goal this season coincidentally both against league
leaders Waterhouse.

Confusion reigned in the
defensive unit as the fast moving Tivoli attackers went to
work at will as they struck five times to eliminate the
chances of third place Harbour View from reaching the End of
Round One Final, as the visitors responded with three goals.
PREMIER LEAGUE:
Harbour View FC 0 Tivoli 4
The pathetic defensive display
seemed contagious as the senior team duplicated the lack of
cohesion by letting in two early goals as the marking left a
lot to be desired for attackers Derrick Planter to convert
early from Nicholas McCreath’s square, before the former
Harbour View striker notched one himself after being left free
in the box.
Glimpses of the attacking
prowess of the visitors flickered ever so often but did not
ignite as the opportunities were off target from Lovel Palmer,
Kavin Bryan and Gregg Taylor.
The game turned in Tivoli’s
favour once again late in the game when substitute Lenworth
Hyde Jr. argued once too often and received his second caution
to leave the visitors depleted numerically while trying to
catch up on goals.
Vulnerable and unsure another
tackle from behind resulted in a free-kick just outside the
penalty area for Fabian Davis to curl in off the fingers of
goalkeeper Miller. Now more desperate to get on terms and
pushing into attack another defensive lapse let in McCreath to
steal his second goal by rounding the goalkeeper to inflict a
sound trashing at Railway Oval.

A game that will not go down in
the annals as a "Classic matchups" reminiscent of the rich
history of many epic battles over some thirty years that has
been recorded between these two stalwarts of local football,
the game petered out to an unexciting draw.
The second half resembled a
rugby game with bodies strewn ever so often across the pitch
punctuated regularly by the blasts from Referee Hughill
Thompson’s whistle signaled forty five minutes of grit, agony
and determination but lacking in skill, imagination and
memorable moments that seemed
restricted to the first half
only. Harbour View’s substitute Kevin King making his first
appearance this season created some hope for the uneasy
supporters, until he too was a victim of an assault on his rib
cage from the knee of an over-zealous defender that left his
sprawling on the turf for a long time before he too was being
stretchered off to the hospital.
The high paced game started
with an air of enthusiasm around the stadium as everyone
settled in their seats to witness what promised much but
delivered very little.

his National Head Coach, Carl Brown seated on the visitors

time National invitee, marksman
Kavin Bryan, etched his name once more on the score-sheet in
the sixteenth minute when his glancing back-header to Ricardo
Smith’s well taken free-kick nestled in the goal far beyond
Kirk Porter for the hosts to lead.
Blow for blow, within the
crowded midfield passes were traded with regularity but
completed as turnovers was the order of the day. The
high press technique detracted from the free flowing encounter
envisaged by the many spectators. Then on the stroke of the
interval a quick dribble from Troy Dawes against the right
touchline was shunted skillfully into the path of the slick
striker George Vernal’s off the ball run to slip it by the
advancing Dwayne Miller to score in minute 44.
The halftime 1-1 scoreline
would add the last real spark to the game as Kavin Bryan
firstly released Gregg Taylor whose shot flew high over the
bar with goalkeeper Porter at his mercy. Then on the stroke of
full time put it just out of the stride of Lennie Hyde Jr,
inside the penalty box whose first time attempt was not under
his full control as it drifted wide of the mark to keep the
scores even.
By virtue of the result Harbour
View now qualifies for the End of Round Finals next Sunday,
November 19th against Waterhouse but before that both teams
have strong opponents away from home this Sunday.
Harbour View travels to Tivoli
Gardens at Railway Oval, while Waterhouse is just next door
their West Kingston neighbours at Boys Town, on Collie Smith

HARBOUR VIEW
FC hangs tough with and exciting 2-2 draw at Waterhouse.
Tie keeps Harbour View in
front of Points Standing.
UNDER 21:
The youngsters hit a snag in
mid-week when two players were ejected in an ill-tempered lost
0-1 away to leaders Portmore United.
They were outplayed by a slick
moving Waterhouse unit yesterday at Drewsland and duly fell
behind 1-3 at the final whistle. Lawrence Smith now a marked
man was fouled once too often in the box and his resultant
penalty scored gave a short lived glimmer of hope at 1-2 after
78 minutes but the host would extend their lead just three
minutes later.

In an exciting top of the table
match-up both teams traded blows from the start as showers
earlier left the surface with a silky finish on a heavy
underfoot. Kavin Bryan drilled his markers constantly but
failed to finish as his strike partner Gregg Taylor deflected
the left-sided movement from Hyde Jr. into the net after 32
minutes to snatch the lead.
One of Garfield Reid’s telling
runs forward allowed him too much time to shoot and won a
fortuitous deflection from the head of a defender glancing it
away from goalkeeper Dwayne Miller into the upper right hand
corner to equalise in minute 42.
Locked at 1-1 at the beginning
of the second half both teams wanted the lead and the
homesters grabbed it when Miller came non-chalantly for a
cross and Brian Wollestan snuck in between him and a defender
to nod into an unprotected net in minute 78 to send the large
home crowd into a frenzy.
Fabian Taylor one of three
senior players to come off the bench along with Oniel “Bigga”
Smith and Donald “ Foulie” Stewart took control of the game
and Taylor missed a sitter after Hyde Jr had chipped a ball
inside for him to leave the defence at his mercy. The
advancing goalkeeper McCallum stranded at the edge of the box,
Taylor’s lobbed drifted wide of the target as he shuck his
head in despair.
Four minutes later he returned
and was fouled just outside the area but got up to score a
magnificent right-footer curling away from the custodian over
the wall as the presence of heavy hitter Gregory Simpson
beside the ball 24 yards away, left McCallum unsure and
bewildered as Taylor celebrated his first goal this season in
minute 86.

Gregory Lawrence Smith making an attacking move towards
wadadah goal |
Spurred on by the ever
supportive Harbour View Female team members in the stands and
dubbed early into the encounter by the Wadadah Premier League
Team members as “Rooney”, the visiting American, Lawrence
etched his name on the scoresheet with four outstanding
strikes within the first hour to blaze a trail of victory for
the JFF Under 21 League leaders.
Playing up front with strike
partner and Captain, Michily Waul who has scored once in every
game this season, the pair went to work early to take the lead
in the tenth minute when he struck hard at the goal to evade
the grasp of the Wadadah custodian to score. His class showing
when he collected a cross on his chest under pressure from two
defenders in the box, with his eyes clearly fixed on goal he
calmly steered it away from the goalkeeper and the un-rushing
players seventeen minutes later for a 2-0 lead.
The goal of the game was
executed just ahead of the halftime in minute 41 when he
dribbled by two defenders to blast from the top of the box
into the far post leaving the custodian baffled and notched a
much deserved hatrick, as the stadium erupted and his
team-mates flocked him in jubilant celebration. He continued
in the second stanza as he left the first as again the two-man
combination with Waul proved the undoing of the stretched
Wadadah defence as his square left Smith alone at the far post
to slot home in minute 51 for his fourth strike.
The defensive unit now
demoralised meant all comers were welcomed to score and they
did in a flurry as Paul Grant dived to head home in minute 53,
Waul keep his hot streak going when he scored in the 61st
minute followed by the three substitutes that entered the frey
in the 67th minute as Smith left the field to a standing
ovation from the bench and wild hand clapping around the
stadium. Kashi Schroeter after being fouled got up to score
the resulting penalty in the 74th minute as Paul Stewart
struck a quick brace in minutes 76 and 80 before the third sub
Richard Reid opened his account in minute 88 as the Referee
called a halt to the march two minutes later at 10-0.

A constant downpour all
afternoon threatened to halt the Flag-raising ceremony but the
organisers hoisted all flags early while making the
announcements in the presence of the members of the Diplomatic
Corp from the British High Commission lead by Ms Carolyn
Lawrence, the Mexican Ambassador, Senora Leonora Nueva and the
KSAFA President Ambassador A.B.Stewart Stephenson in addition
the Harbour View Community leaders were in attendance with
Citizens Association head Ms Beryl Urqhuart, Donald Quarrie
High School Headmaster Mr. Hines and Headmistresses from the
many Basic Schools plus Church representative and Sponsors.
A fast paced game began as both
teams searched for the lead on a slick surface with a well
padded under footing of grass heavy from the recent rains over
the last few days. Richard Edwards marshaled the midfield for
the hosts as Daniel Ricketts pulled the strings for the
Montego Bay campaigners but neither could breakdown well
organised defenses. Gregg Taylor came closest but shot wide
into the side netting as Jermaine Anderson looked most
dangerous for the visitors but Jermaine Taylor had both eyes
firmly fixed on him all afternoon. The half ended scoreless.
The second was to produce five goals as both teams came to
terms with how to best utilise the damp conditions. Wadadah
grabbed the initiative as Andre Ried was quickest to the ball
that had deflected from the left-sided corner kick in the 51st
minute to shot home from around the penalty spot.
Gregg Taylor slapped in an
immediate response five minutes later to equalise. Then he
hustled the defender Lesseps Love and hurry him into error
while dribbling by him to earn a penalty in minute sixty seven
as he was ejected for a second bookable offence by Referee
Dave Peterkin. Loxely Thomas converted the second goal as
Gavine Barrett was well beaten. Gregg Taylor then returned to
torment the opposition as he stunned the visitors once again
in minute 76 with the third goal for the homesters.
As the game wound down to what
seemed a comfortable victory, a free-kick in time added on was
scored as Christopher Currie who shot hard on goal from 21
yards as the wet ball eluded the grasp of Michaud Barrett in
goal for Harbour View.

FC Defeated 1-2 by Village United at Home
The Under 21 game is not played
on Wednesdays.
PREMIER LEAGUE:

VillageUnited 2.
After
taking a well deserved early lead in minute 11 when Captain
Lovel Palmer slammed home an accurate square from Gregg Taylor
down the right past Leighton Murray.
A series of no less than five
near misses followed as in-accurate crosses and bad finishing
marked the remainder of the first half as Harbour View totally
dominated but failed to closeout their opponents.
It would come back to haunt
them. The second half saw Village re-organising their
team strategy effectively to stop the dominance, wrestle away
the midfield and successfully launch two telling attacks at
the heart of the homesters to inflict defeat on the hosts for
the first time this season.
Firstly a cross aimed at the
far post was blocked by custodian Barrett but striker Newton
Sterling toe-poked it away to new substitute Luke Tate, to
score from 4 yards. Eight minutes later in the time added on
Omar Allen drifted in from the left flank to shoot and score
effectively silencing the fair sized home crowd to inflict a
stunning victory.

The stalemate marked the first
drawn game for the League leaders while it was the fourth for
Portmore as the Clubs battled away to a goalless tie at the
Prison Oval as the Ferdie Nieta Complex is undergoing repairs.
Well organised defensive units
were the order of the day as the game ground to a halt at the
halftime with few goal area activities as the crowd waited
patiently. Lovel Palmer blasted from distance twice but not
troubling Shawn Sawyers in goal as Carlington Clarke shot from
26 yards had Michaud Barrett tipping over the bar.
Rafe Wolfe came closest to
scoring when the deflected ball fell kindly on his head but it
tipped the crossbar on its way over. Substitute Kevin Deer
clean control, turn and kick at the near post soared high so
too Lovel Palmer’s header at the back post ended in the side
netting. Kavin Bryan continues to impress while giving
opposing defenders a lot of work to do, t |
