Science
again-BT and HV draw
History almost repeated itself
on Sunday night. The Stars of the East came from behind to
level the score 2-2 with the Stars of the West in the Wray and
Nephew Premier League match- up at Compound. There was string
of expletives emanating from the vicinty of the JJ possee when
BT extended their lead to 2-0 shortly after the second half
started. As it was in '85 & '86 ,a team was once again sitting
on a 2 goal cushion and with not much time to spare is pure
kiss teeth as the fans of the trailing team started exiting
the venue like at Caymanas Park. In contrast, pandemonium
broke loose in the Roxy Williams stand as colour red fans
erupted in celebration. Michael Jureidini reached for his
bible and started to read two psalms. Ossie D and Stevie G
started cussing the referee. Presie Masters looked up to the
skies for rain; Allah was no where to be found and the mantra
"press ahead Harbour View ,press ahead" subsided. Juicy Bell
rushed over to Daddy and told him to take heart "It's not over
till the fat lady sings".
Sunday was a day of
reminiscence.21 years have passed. It was high five and bear
hugs.It was a reunion of many who had played or spectated in
the '85 &86 epics. At half time DV presented Carl Brown with a
memorabilia DVD of the two historic episodes. Other survivors
present include Peter Prendegast (returned as President of
JFRA on Saturday) and Andrew Pryce this time in the capacity
as coach of BT.Lest we forget Hugh Bailey was represented by
his son Jermaine Bailey who played for BT that night. Others
on the BT match card carried similar surnames bearing uncanny
progeny such as Morgan, Lewis ,Francis& Brown. There was no
time to check the bloodline Peanut Bunny sang the National
Anthem-Clyde Jureidini (coach HVFC '86)winces as a note is
broken.
It was 30 minutes remaining and
the right annex of Harbour View supporters' stand was by now
almost empty. A further 10 minutes passed and the irate fans
were demanding the scalp of the HVFC coachig staff. Suddenly
the belligerence subsided as the word Goal!!!! erupted and
many rushed back to the gate.Harbour View had scored and
trailed 2-1 Another five minutes passed and is pure kiss teeth
again as the trying Blackburn kicked wide of the upright.. One
fan shouted from under the plum tree outside" unoo ah
idiot-cum back outside; Harbour View caan win!!!!".The word
was hardly out of his mouth when then was again shout of
Goal!!! Like the man in Wild Gilbert he rushed back into
Compound ,lifted DV shoulder high" a fi me national coach
this". Harbour View leveled the score 2-2.A statistical
dead-heat There was tears of joy and both sides shook hands.

EPIC BATTLES
OF JAMAICAN FOOTBALL !
HARBOUR VIEW versus BOY'S TOWN; THE RIVALRY CONTINUES
-By Bertram Scott
Of
all the epic battles that have graced the history of Jamaican
football, none is more emotionally charged than the rivalry
developed between Harbour View football club and Boys Town FC.
This Sunday at the Harbour View Mini Stadium, affectionately
called The Compound?, the time honoured tradition continues as
both teams meet for the first time in the Jamaica Football
Federation (JFF) Premier League.
Confidence is high in both
camps, and a fierce battle of attrition is expected at the
Compound. Harbour View, the reigning Caribbean Club champions,
are 11 points in front of their nearest rival in the Wray &
Nephew Premier League, and so the race for the title is all
over bar the shouting. Boys town is also on a crescendo having
just gained promotion to the Premier League after a 12 years
absence, and only days ago clinically knocking-off the
defending League champions, Portmore United 2-1 at Collie
Smith Drive.
Ironically, in the 1994/95 JFF
Federation Cup Quarter-finals, the last time the teams met,
both were under contrasting circumstances. Boys Town had just
finished last in the 1994/95 JFF Premier League, and were
demoted to the KSAFA Major League, and Harbour View were the
winners of the 1994/95 KSAFA Major League, and were promoted
to the 1995/96 JFF Premier League. Harbour View won the game
3-1 on goals from Richard Coke (59' and 61'), and Owen "Busta"
Kirkland, respectively, while Andrew Price scored the
consolation for BT.
Of all the encounters between
the "Stars from the East"? and "The Best from the West", none
is spoken of more passionately by Boy's Town and Harbour View
fans, players, and administrators than the epic struggle of
the 1984/85 KSAFA Major League final at the National Stadium
before an emotionally charged jam-packed crowd. The standing
room only Stadium was lost in a sea of "Colour Red" and
Yellow, and Blue. Many consider that clash to be one of the
most exciting local club game played at the "office".
What made the 1984/85 KSAFA
Major League final so memorable for many is the fact that
boy's Town and Harbour View had met in the two previous Major
League finals, 1982/83, and 1983/84, and in both games the
scores were tied after extra time and decided on penalties.
"The Red Brigade" won on both occasions. Also, in the 1983/84
edition Harbour View led 2-0 with fumes of full time
remaining, and with the Boy's Town supporters well on their
way down Authur Wint Drive, "Colour Red" miraculously
equalized sending the game into extra time and to penalties.
Boy's Town fans that were passing the Little Theatre heard the
thunderous roar of their brave soldiers and knew that
something had gone happily right and hurried back to "The
Office" to witness a remarkable comeback from the brink.
Harbour View fans, on the other hand, reportedly left early to
prepare for championship celebrations in the East.
Andrew "Bowa" Hines, the
sweeper for Harbour View in the 84/85 Final, remembered that
even though they were 3-1 down with about 3 minutes of regular
time remaining, he was very optimistic that they would win
that game, and communicated that energy to Peter Cargill and
the other players. Harbour View equalized with three
unanswered goals by Noel Brissett, Richard Coke, who scored on
his first touch, and Mark Salmon, respectively, giving "The
Stars from the East" a 4-3 aggregate win and the title.
Commenting on his memory of
that game, Carl Brown said, "that was a most memorable game,
but I believe the referee played a little bit too long causing
bickering among our players. As a result, the team lost its
concentration. We lost to a very good Harbour View team that
was going well at the time".
The Harbour champion team of
1984/85 has proven to be ill fated, as 6 of the players and
officials are deceased. They are Peter Cargill, Linval
McKenzie, Wainwright Davis, Noel Brissett, David Reid, and
Roxy Williams. The Coach of the team, Clyde Juredini is now
the General Manager of Harbour View FC, and Manager, Carvel
Stewart, is the current Chairman of Harbour View. The referee
was Winston "Dirks" Campbell. 1984/85 Major League Final

HARBOUR VIEW SCORES EXCITING 2-2 DRAW
AGAINST WATERHOUSE.
After registering their first
draw (1-1) in the season earlier in the week against lowly
Rivoli United at Spanish Town Prison Oval. Oniel “Bigga”
Smith’s 54th minute header saves the blushes as Derrick
Planter’s first half freekick treatened to sidetrack runaway
leaders Harbour View FC.
UNDER 21:
Harbour View edge
Waterhouse by 1-0.
The lone goal scored by
Michily Waul marked his best game for this season as he
finished of a good two man combination of a series of one-two
passes between Kemar Petrekin and himself to place beyond the
reach of the goalkeeper in minute 38th.
PREMIER LEAGUE:
On
a jam packed New Years Day the large crowd streamed into the
Drewsland Stadium for the 5:30pm start to witness the top of
the table clash for vital points and Round Two leadership
honours.
Both teams undefeated in the
Round and jointly holding the leading positions in Round Two
with 22 points each, were eyeing the League leadership race
separated by an eleven (11) point difference in addition to
confirming places in the End of Round Final scheduled for
Sunday, January 22 at the National Stadium.
The combative game was full
of high intensity play, laced with flair and style as Club
supporters were riveted to their seats as Harbour View
dominated the proceedings and Waterhouse hit back on the
counter-attack to generate tension filled moments as Jomo
Gordon came closest in response to the raids launched by
strike partners Luton Shelton and Richard West. Loxely Thomas
timed his arrival perfectly in minute 34 to finish a well
orchestrated build up from Ricardo Smith’s cross that was
headed back into his path by West at the back post. His
thunderous right footer crashed into the roof of the net
before he, arms outstretched, flew away to the corner of the
ground to silence the home crowd until halftime at 1-0.
Enter master of escapism
Kevin Lamey at the break, he makes an almost immediate impact
in minute 54 when Ryan Thompson fails to hold a high cross but
punches it instead effectively keeping the ball alive to see
it won again and played across the area by Damion “Dutty man”
Powell for a now free Lamey to tap home at the unprotected far
post.
Yet another high cross this
time from Richard West found the head of Shelton to power home
from 13 yards past advancing goalkeeper Richard McCallum to
re-establish the lead at 2-1 in minute 79. The game is wide
open in the second half as both teams go “Hell for Leather” as
chances are missed by West as he dives into the six yard box,
Shelton is blocked and Blackburn shoots wide followed by
Thomas close in. Lamey drives a speculative shot well wide,
Powell hits from distance and Gordon is getting closer.
Surprisingly both coaches
keep the game open and the crafty Lamey steals his opportunity
to grab the equaliser in time added on, when closely marked
and his back to goal he creates an overhead kick to catch the
custodian Thompson wrong footed as he attempt to rush of his
line to intercept the play. Too late, too late as Lamey his
teammates and the entire Waterhouse community celebrates the
late strike to gain a 2-2 draw and joint leadership of Round
Two as well as confirming both teams for the second End of
Round Final on 23 points.
Round Two leaves Harbour View
on 50 points, eleven points ahead of the second place Club
Waterhouse on 39 points.

HARBOUR VIEW SCORES ANOTHER VITAL 1-0
VICTORY OVER SEBA IN A KEENLY CONTESTED GAME AT A PACKED
JARRETT PARK COMPLEX.
UNDER 21:
No goals in a tight game that
Harbour View squandered no fewer than five chances before
defender Anthony Christie was ejected from the game with eight
minutes to go.
PREMIER LEAGUE:
Loxely
Thomas timed his arrival perfectly in minute 48 to secure all
three vital points away from home in the second city of
Montego Bay. When Nicholas Dodd played a give-and-go down the
right flank before his aerial cross found the right boot of
attacking midfielder Thomas to place beside the goalkeeper and
score the games only goal.
Seba winning their last two
games handsomely and not losing in the last five games entered
the game on a high at home stating categorically “ No one
beats us at Jarrett Park” gave leaders Harbour View the
motivation to prove them wrong. The disc-jockey stimulated the
crowd to cheer on the “Reba” crew as even the patrons on the
hillside chanted and the massive inside the “Park” voiced
their support loudly in appreciation.
“The Stars of the East” stood
their ground resolutely for the first fifteen minutes or more
as the re-energised Seba team roared forward but could not
penetrate the defensive line. Soon the possession shifted to
the Kingston visitors as the slick ball movement found its
rhythm and surged into attack but they too didn’t score
despite their best efforts.
Then four minutes in the second
half, Thomas struck to make a difference and eventually win
the game.
Opportunities went a begging on
both sides as Seba won possession from goalkeeper Thompson’s
error and rounded him to shoot at the empty goal but failed to
score, as they again came close when on minute 88 the forward
headed down and over goalkeeper Thompson in addition to the
crossbar. Thompson responded with two other brilliant saves to
deny Seba scoring.
While at the other end Luton
Shelton beat everyone to kick wide and Thomas shots from
distance were well handled by the Seba custodian. Victory
number six from six games in Round Two leaves Harbour View on
45 points, thirteen points ahead of the second place Club.

Harbour View
stuns Arnett Gardens with three second half goals.
Under 21:
Harbour View’s ability to
score last minute goals to steal a late result was again in
evidence, as substitute Andre Whyte (87th) and Ondino
Griffith’s penalty in the 89th were enough to draw by 2-2
after Arnett had scored twice earlier through Kenric Rodriques
(30th) and Kowri Pickergill (82nd).

The crowd
and players in celebration of the Harbour View third goal |
After the heated End Of First
Round Finals between the two former Champions both returned in
a more focussed frame of mind as the game started at a very
high pace.
The hotly contested game was
full of energy, fine touches, searching passes and shots on
goal from around the penalty area.
At the halftime no goals yet
but a lot of good football was enjoyed by the large crowd as
“Tedo’s Chicken Soup” was lapped up and “Little Skills three
Bars” and the new “Norwyn’s Far East Bar” was deeply involved
in service throughout the interval as the Harbour View
Cheerleaders danced joyfully announcing their weekend “Car
Wash” to come on Saturday, following “Presi Masters Friday
Fish Fry” on Friday afternoon at the Compound.
League Sponsors Wray & Nephew
again voted Donovan DV Hayles as “Coach of the Month” for
November 2005 completing the extra-ordinary feat of becoming
the first ever three (3) consecutive winner for September,
October and now November 2005. Congratulations Donovan.
Marcelino Blackburn was also voted “Player of the Month” of
November 2005. The Coaches Tactical awareness would shine
through after team talks in the respective Locker Rooms.
What was to come was a
revelation that all present in the stadium will never forget
for their lifetime. Pace, acceleration and sharp shooting at
goals by the motivated Harbour View League leaders would
display an exhibition of talent under pressure that the pro
Harbour View patrons longed for.
It started when Kevin King
deflected a Nicholas Dodd right-sided cross towards the far
post only to see the diving Julian McKliesh parry beyond his
post for a corner. The resulting corner was also well
defended. Then in minute 63 a second corner was achieved by
the “Stars of the East” once again on the left, quickly Luton
Shelton dashed across to assist Loxely Thomas with a short
corner as the Arnett Gardens defenders reacted slowly and sent
only one defender who was confused by the sharp inter passing
that made Thomas dart goalwards, as he tackled to trip up
Thomas inside the Penalty box for Referee Hughill Thompson to
indicate a penalty kick. Shelton drove powerfully to secure
the games first goal and his sixth of this leagues campaign.
Seemingly a bit relaxed at
the heart of the Harbour View defence Arnett fought back
manfully to earn three half chances within ten minutes but
none were good enough to trouble goalkeeper Ryan Thompson.
Coaches Hayles and Barrington “Cobra” Gaynor blurted out
corrective instructions to the players as the awaken from
their slumber to resume the attacking play based on heavy
running off the ball. It paid off quickly.
Arguably one of the best
goals of the season rivalling Gregory Simpson’s killer blow,
the senior statesman Donald “Foulie” Stewart dribbled forward
across the centre circle unmolested, then surprise, surprise.
He launched the most
ferocious left footed drive in minute 77, from 35 yards out to
defeat a flying Julian “Rammie” McKliesh as it hit the back right
upright and in so doing hit the life out of a struggling
Arnett contingent as the crowd erupted in wild frenzy Donald
fell to the ground in utter disbelief of what seemed a supershot that he tried in training but has never achieved in
a competitive game. It was a goal of a lifetime and the entire
team piled up on top of him to show appreciation as the crowd
stood up to applaud the mini-miracle. From then on he could do
no wrong as the crowd cheered his every touch.
Harbour View’s spirit soared
as Arnett’s dropped apart and slick passing, teasing runs and
delicate dribbles were on show as “The Stars of the East”
paraded the skills elaborately from a position of dominance.
The killer blow would come
late in minute 90 and time added on when Shelton out worked a
defender to cross from the left finding substitute Richard
West about the penalty spot to out manoeuvre his marking
before slipping pass the advancing custodian McKliesh to score
the third and final goal.
Donald Stewart was voted the
games ”Most Valuable Player” as the Harbour View diehards left
smiling broadly and looking forward to the Christmas Season
while Arnett Gardens continue to reconstruct their winning
formula that made them former double Champions of the Premier
League.
Harbour View leads the league
with 42 points clearly 11 points ahead of the second placed
Waterhouse.

nineteen when Loxely Thomas crossed from the left to evade
three defenders and Oniel “Bigga” Smith slotted home
unmolested at the far post.
The uneventful game on an

Shelton |
The fifteenth minute marked
the return of leading striker Luton Shelton goalscoring
prowess after injury had sidelined him for the last five games
to win by 1-0.
Donald Stewart robbed a
midfielder on the half line before shunting to the running
Kevin King down the left flank.
He crossed one-time into the
path of Shelton who smashed it on the volley, hitting the
hands of the advancing goalkeeper Gavin Barrett to continue on
its way into the back of the net.
It proved to be the isolated
penetration in the game as both goalkeepers brought-off
fantastic blocks, saves and over the crossbar tips to weather
the goalmouth storms frequently throughout the game.
Ryan Thompson smartly
responded on no less than three occasions to save the day,
even close to the end of full time. His most exacting being
the twenty fifth minute 24 yard bomb from Daniel Ricketts
which expertly finger-rolled over the crossbar for a corner
kick.
Digicel Player of the
Game:
Thompson
must have come very close to being named “Harbour View Player
of the Game” but that honour went to Kevin King while Captain
Daniel Ricketts was selected from Wadadah. Both Players won
expensive top of the line Cellular Phones from Digicel, the

Rafiek Thomas
in a struggle for possession |
The 5pm start time for the End
of Round One Final proved very attractive to the avid football
fans across the corporate area who journeyed near and far to
see every minute of the encounter from his or her favourite
vantage point in the Harbour View Stadium.
The teams obliged early on as
Kevin ”Pele” Wilson showed the best signs of attacking when he
drifted to the wide left position to create good dribbles into
the box and telling crosses to his team mates dashing into the
area as soon as he gets the ball. Once such venture was
floated onto the crossbar over the head of custodian Ryan
Thompson before being cleared upfield. Then midway the half,
Jonathan Williams produced a defensive splitting pass inside
the right wingback Ronnie Amaguana to Kwame Richardson who
hardly got unto the end of it to tap it wide of the opposite
post.
Midfield battles dominated
goalmouth finishes as Harbour View wrestled away the advantage
from the ”Jungilists” with good teamwork and hard off-the-ball
running resulting in 20 year old Rafiek Thomas winning the
ball on the line just inside the left corner flag before
whipping a cross that found the waiting Marcelino Blackburn
about the penalty spot to direct home one-time into the far
corner of Julian McKliesh’s goal. Minute 28, Harbour View 1
Arnett Gardens 0.
He returned just the minute
before the half ended to let loose a canon from 24 yards to
rattle McKliesh right-hand leaving him seated firmly on the
ground entangled with the right post as the waiting head of
Thomas was there to nod home easily for what the entire
stadium thought was the second goal. It was ruled offside not
to the pleasure of the largest crowd witnessed this season who
roared in unison “NO” Mr Referee. As the players disappeared
into the tunnel for halftime, the stadium buzzed with
excitement as patrons got a chance to vent there frustration,
praise their heroes and refresh themselves.
The second stanza kicked off
was very open from the restart as Arnett again assumed the
aggression with good ball skills while utilising the diagonals
from coordinated attacks. Quickly, the fleet-footed Williams
chased a ball into the penalty area, hotly pursued by William
Richards as Thompson advanced from his line to intercept but
failed to get the ball and grabbed the players’ ankle tripping
him up in minute 49 to reward a penalty.
Kevin Wilson converted
magically to level the scores, 1-1.
As the pressure builds the
Arnett Gardens contingent surged forward until another
speculative drive from distance weaved through the pack to
stop at the feet of Gregg Taylor, who looked dangerously
offside, alone some seven yards from goal. His second touch
directed it wide of goal. It was to prove, the match winner.
Arnett still could not
establish dominance and again Harbour View emerged through
Oniel Smith and Nicholas Dodd who replaced the injured Lovel
Palmer at halftime, sprinted forward to cross three times but
not precisely until he drove his first attempt goal bound for
McKliesh spread-eagled himself to save by palming the ball out
of his goal as Patrick Graham cleared before reconstructing a
counter-attack from midway his half.
Fever-pitch excitement was
highlighted with the second Marcelino Blackburn attempt to
score from a left-sided free kick floated into the area by
Oniel Smith, his shot was blocked on the goal line by the
outstretched hand of diving player Gerald Niel that
miraculously referee Stennett never saw.
The large crowd enjoyed the
combat of a high intensity contest highlighted by good saves
by each goalkeeper then Harbour View were rewarded by another
corner. A skirmish broke out inside the penalty area as both
teams lost two players to red card ejections.
Kevin “Pele” Wilson openly
slapped Rafiek Thomas twice with Referee Howard Stennett
standing three yards away, Thomas then requested the ref to
act, he was ejected. Cornel Chinsue then blocked Thomas as he
walked away and they exchanged words. Thomas responded with a
punch, he too was ejected. Chinsue was restrained then burst
out and threw two lounging punches at Leon Strickland standing
close by before he was also ejected by Referee Stennett.
Strangely enough Stennett ejected a restrained Strickland to
seemingly even-up the teams. A good game spoilt in time added
on.
The game ended 2-1 as the Wray
and Nephew Trophy was hoisted by new Champions Arnett Gardens.

HARBOUR VIEW
ADVANCES TO A FOURTH CONSECUTIVE END OF FIRST ROUND FINAL BY
DEFEATING WATERHOUSE 3-1.
Premier League:
The 3pm start time for the
final game in the first Round was a hindrance for the working
class fans but only temporarily halted the Harbour View team
from hitting high gear early on.
Jomo Gordon a former Harbour
View striker latched onto a crafty chipped pass from strike
partner Kevin Lamey and volleyed beautifully into the far post
from 21 yards off his left instep in minute 22 to lead 1-0.

Loxely Thomas
and Kemar Petrekin celebrating the first goal
for Harbour View |
It was to be the first and last
time Waterhouse would lead as Loxely Thomas calmly stroked
home a floating cross from Amaguana that he hit flush with the
right foot to equalise after 40 minutes.
Before all this goal-scoring
begun both teams traded attacks that Harbour View’s Petrekin
and Thomases soft attempts were hurriedly cleared from the
goal lines and Palmer’s header went wide but his shot
well-handled by goalkeeper Richard McCallum. Lamey responded
twice for Waterhouse once tamely to Thompson in goal then
released by Gordon drove high and wide.
Captain Palmer’s groin injury
was rested at the break as Marcelino Blackburn appeared to
rev-up the proceedings and did so immediately in minute 49
when he capped a good move inside the area from Oniel Smith
onto the head of Petrekin who laid it in his path to slam
home, then ran away dancing to the crowd as is now customary.
2-1 and Harbour View now assuming the lead and game dominance
with superior ball possession, tactics and physical fitness.
Oniel “Bigga” Smith quietly
took over the midfield with simply accurate passes mixed with
the aggressive tackles of Harbour View’s Man-of-the-Match
Richard Edwards, skills of Thomas and the high pace and work
rate of Blackburn. Smith topped of a good performance by
out-thinking McCallum in goal on eighty minutes when King
turned his maker skilfully on top of the box then sliding the
ball wide to Smith to convert. He however failed to double his
goal-scoring feat when four minutes later when Thomas deftly
outsmarted the defence to set him up to score but his effort
went wide from 15 yards.

Kemar Petrekin
and team mates celebrates the winning goal |
An outstanding game of football
was climaxed by a young aspiring player Kemar Petrekin’s
strike after a 56th minute robbery from a fumbling defender to
raced forward seven (7) yards just inside the penalty area to
the left. He squared up his more experienced opposition
goalkeeper, Robbie Scott before curling it accurately around
him and into the far corner for the early lead that extended
to the fulltime whistle on ninety minutes.
He ran forty (40) yards to the
bench as all his team-mates and coaches embraced him he
glowed, warmed by the occasion of scoring his first Premier
League goal. The twenty one year old player who has waited
eagerly for the last two years to emerge at this level after
dominating the Under 21 League like no other. He was voted
Most Valuable Player twice in consecutive seasons in addition
to being the leading goalscorer, both times.
Highly combative, entertaining
and gripping were but a few of the words football fans echoed
as they departed the stadium with a broad smile on their faces
slapping the palms of their hands with the ticket stubbs that
they missed out on winning the four spanking new Goodyear
Eagle NCT5 Tyres on offer as Gate Prizes. Defenders Jermaine
Taylor of Harbour View and Dwight Heron of Tivoli Gardens
beamed after accepting their game prizes as team Most Valuable
Players by the respective Technical Teams.

MVP-
Dwight Heron of Tivoli Gardens |
The more experienced, star
studded squad of Tivoli Gardens contrasted with the youthful
potential of hosts Harbour View who were determined not to be
over-shadowed or frightened by the occasion being covered Live
on Radio92FM. The momentum hit high gear early as Ronnie
Amaguana on the right flank motored forward regularly to cross
after dismissing more than a few illustrious names, while
Ricardo White balanced his left-sided attack with accurate
squares on of which fast moving captain Lovel Palmer just
missed as he tried to execute a difficult volley attempt
goalwards. An avalanche of thrusts forward by both teams were
ably handled by both defensive units until Amaguana’s shot
from distance wasn’t handle cleanly then Loxely Thomas hurried
an angled shot skyward to ease the pressure on Tivoli.
Hot-to-handle striker Christopher Nicholas was restrained by
Harbour View’s Jermaine Taylor while his Tivoli namesake was
the first casualty of an early substitution as the second half
begun, new national invitee Oraine Simpson added spark to the
already heated proceeding as World 100 Metre Record Holder
Asafa Powell may have questioned his own speed as he looked on
from the Grandstand alongside fellow athletes Usian Bolt and
Jermaine Mason and Jermaine Gonzales.
Gutsy ground battles, slick
passing and dashes down the wings were all halted somewhere
around the edge of the penalty box as the tried and proven
wit, skill and craft of Nicholas, paired with International
midfielder Jermaine Johnson and then Roland Dean couldn’t
unpry the tight Harbour View defence with William Richards and
Donald Stewart leading the organisation before Oniel Smith
replaced him late to bolster the team tactic to closeout the
options late in the game. Tivoli ventured forward more often
in search of the equaliser leaving Kevin King and substitutes
Marcelino Blackburn and Rafiek Thomas to counter-attack
through dribbles but on three occasion they over-dribbled
while failing to get a pass or a shot off.
Rare penetrative attacks from
both teams really threatened Ryan Thompson or Edsel Scott in
goal but Thompson’s two saves scrambled away by his defence
kept them at bay to retain the 1-0 scoreline.
UNDER 21:
Harbour View 0 Tivoli 0
 |
Harbour View failed to secure the vital three points from
a win over League leaders Tivoli Gardens, as a strong
performance held the upper hand while not being able to
score some simple opportunities that were created
throughout the game.
Two wins and a draw from
four games leave us on seven points and third position.
