SEBA SNATCHES
THE EARLY LEAD OVER THE LEAGUE LEADERS HARBOUR VIEW IN MONTEGO
BAY!
Captain Norman Foster’s 77
minute freekick from just inside the left cornerflag found an
unlikely allie in the Harbour View defenders who erred in
contradictory communication to all together leave what seemed
like an armless cross go by and into the far corner of the
net, to sneak home a victory in an even contest.
The one goal lead is enough to
travel away in Kingston but not enough to be comfortable with.
The new away goal rule would be another big advantage for Seba
who did well to prevent the Kingstonians from registering any
credits in the important column.
Next weeks return leg is set to
be an interesting affair at the Compound.

TWO
UNANSWERED GOALS BY STRIKE PARTNERS LUTON SHELTON AND FABIAN
TAYLOR IS ENOUGH TO OVERCOME SEBA UNITED’S EARLY LEAD!
An early strike from the fit
again national striker Luton Shelton after only five minutes
erased the first leg lead of Montego Bay’s Seba United, when
Ricardo Smith’s left sided cross was deflected away from
Fabian Taylor by the goalkeeper only as far as Shelton outside
the area for him to stab home from 21 yards past a group of
defenders.
Two other left sided moves
ended with inaccurate crosses going behind from Marcelino
Blackburn then Smith as Richard Edwards shot against the
upright from an acute angle later in the half.
Shelton tried a distant effort
after 35 minutes and seemingly hurt he hobbled off the field
before being an early substitute replaced by Lenworth Hyde Jr.
A barrage of shots on goal were
blocked by bodies flung desperately across each others to
stave off defeat at the beginning of the second stanza. As
Harbour View marched forward, only time it seemed, could deny
victory.
The sly fox, would have his
day. Fabian Taylor latched onto a through ball just ahead of
the advancing custodian to tuck it away in minute 73, for his
first goal since his comeback. He gleefully jumped over the
perimeter fencing, racing away to the delighted fans in the
western stands just behind the goal. The stadium applauded his
achievement as the referee had a quiet word into his
appreciative ear as they both jogged back towards the centre
circle.
The keen combat continued while
not further disturbing the scoreline. Harbour View advanced to
the quarterfinals next Wednesday against an opponent to be
drawn tomorrow.

FABIAN DAWKINS RETURNS FROM DENMARK TO
NOTCH HIS 15TH GOAL OF THE SEASON AND DEFEAT HARBOUR VIEW BY
1-0!
Under 21:
Village United team fails to
show on a school day.
PREMIER LEAGUE:
When
the speedster dashed away from the flat-footed defense to slot
past goalkeeper Murray it was good enough to edge the
muarading “Stars of the East” at the Compound.
Attack after attack was mounted
on the Trelawny bastion but all to no avail as goalkeeper
Elvis Hart made no less than four game winning saves aided by
the hesitance of the Harbour View attackers while in
possession inside the penalty box.
Coach Dean Weatherly guided his
troops home safely but only just, thankful in the relief of
referee Howard Stennet’s reluctance to award no less than
three seemingly valid penalty requests.
Twice against Daniel Shaw and
once against Kevin King, as Village United defenders threw
their bodies onto the opponents confident the appropriate
calls were not going to be made on this particular day.
Village United advances to 38
points and joint fourth position, while Harbour View remained
leaders on 54 points.

A DOUBLE STRIKE FROM JERMAINE “TEDDY”
JOHNSON OVERHAULS DESMOND BREAKENRIDGE’S FIRST GOAL FOR
HARBOUR VIEW!
Under 21:
Tivoli effect revenge by 5-1 at
the Railway Oval, as Harbour View arrives late performs below
par.
PREMIER LEAGUE:
A wonderful overhead volley
“Bicycle” kick just before halftime by the former English
Premiership midfielder Jermaine Johnson stunned the visiting
Harbour View diehards, as the players stood motionless when
the ball was retrieved from the back of the net, in minute 44.
Tivolities celebrated as
Jermaine raced around the field in wild abandon he flung his
shirt skyward as he beat his chest with renewed enthusiasm.
Before the half had ended and
the joy declined, Harbour View responded with aplumb.
A freekick awarded 25 yards out
was properly spanked by newly signed defender Desmond
Breakenridge as the other players watched, he struck
withawesome power.
It riffled into the roof of
Leon Gordon’s net before he could react. The half ended on a
high as the ground buzzed with excitement and chatter
throughout the ten minute period.
Some sipped drinks while
comparing goals, disbelief and intense emotions.
The second 45 minutes was just
as intense as the first as top quality action-packed rivalry
ensued reminiscent of the 2004 December CFU Caribbean Club
Champions second leg final on December 15th.
In minute 88 Johnson won the
contest for the homesters when he snuck in behind the
defenders to race away and score on custodian Ryan Thompson
who did well to getan hand on his shot but not enough to save.
Tivoli Gardens carved out their
second victory at Tivoli
, 2-1 over Harbour View this
season following the outstanding 3-2 victory about three weeks
earlier to finish Round Two.

HARBOUR VIEW SCORES VITAL 1-0 VICTORY
OVER ARNETT GARDENS AS THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY KICKS-OFF THE
FINAL ROUND THREE.
UNDER 21:
Two late goals, one to either
team meant the game climaxed after minute 83 to a grand finale
but Arnett’s earlier strike eclipsed the challenge of Harbour
View in a 2-1 contest.
Arnett on 33 points, moved up
to second in the league while Harbour View on 24 points
remained in fifth position.
PREMIER LEAGUE:
Richard
“Shortman” Edwards slotted home from a pass laid back for him
by the industry of Richard West who robbed the defender
unexpectedly to setup the deadly strike that eventually
secured a vital victory.
His second goal for the season,
he calmly side-footed his 18 yard effort away from all
defenders as his relieved teammates hugged him while shinning
his bald-head with much delight.
On an afternoon when the “Stars
of the East” were again dominant from start to finish, no
fewer than six real goalscoring opportunities went abegging as
it was beginning to feel like one of those days when we would
get caught on a counter-attack and robbed of victory. Edwards
guaranteed our security of the three points as the partisan
crowd exhaled.
Recent villain of the
Waterhouse Final in the Second Round Final, Leighton Murray
saved the day and the game with a blinding right side full
length dive. That snatched the Kevin “Pele” Wilson deflected
free kick, from dipping into the “Pigeon-hole”: Absolutely
brilliant, as the large crowd watched in amazement.
Strike partners, Richard West
and the returning Fabian Taylor both spurned great
opportunities to extend the score-line when they both shot
wide of the goal in the last ten minutes of the game.
Harbour View leads Round Three
on 54 points, eight points ahead of the second place Club.

HARBOUR VIEW FACES WATERHOUSE IN BACK TO
BACK GAMES – THIS TIME FOR THE JACKIE BELL KSAFA KNOCKOUT
SEMIS!

|
Ace Striker
Fabian Taylor return to active competition |
They say lightning doesn’t
strike in the same place twice, but as the large crowd
streamed into the National Stadium for the second time in a
week everyone of them spoke happily of the previous contest
not for a second were they all unwilling to relive that
memorable experience, it was not to be.
New contest, new day, new
drama.
In the first minute the hero of
the previous game Gregory Simpson lost possession in the
centre circle. He hurried back into the leftback position in
chase of the ball moved forward.
Again he blocked the attacker
Roberto Fletcher and seemingly won the ball just outside the
penalty area, only to let it keep rolling away from him.
Fletcher quickly pulled back and then swiftly towards the ball
before letting fly a snap kick that found its intended target
inside the far post having brushed the fingers of the
surprised custodian Ryan Thompson.
Stunned by the strike Harbour
View players, technical staff and supporters slumped only
temporarily before accepting the early goal conceded after
just 41 seconds to start the response a bit dejected.
Dominant throughout the
remainder of the contest the Harbour View attacks wore down
the defensive stance of the Waterhouse team throughout as they
stood defiant for the remainder of the game to lift the game.
Missed chances and unfinished attacks lead to the demise as
the rotation of players and some returning from injuries
proved to be not as smooth as the momentum gained throughout
the previous games in Round One.
Waterhouse advances to the
final on Wednesday, February 12th against Boys Town who
defeated Constant Spring by the only goal scored by Fitzroy
Anglin from a handball awarded penalty kick in minute 73.
Sunday, January 22nd, 2006.
HARBOUR VIEW PRODUCES YET ANOTHER THRILLER
(4-4) BUT LOSSES END OF ROUND TWO FINAL AFTER PENALTIES.
Forget
the scoreline, forget the result, title and even the Trophy if
you can wrap your mind around it.
Join in another scintillating
moment in Jamaica’s football history that only Harbour View
seems to create these breath-taking thrillers, year in and
year out!
Waterhouse started out what
turned out to be a nightmarish Comedy of defensive errors in
minute seven when experienced turned back a blind pass
intended for his isolated custodian only to be intercepted by
the wily Richard West. West in turn relayed across the face of
the empty goal for the alert Marcelino Blackburn to tap home
for the 1-0 lead.
One bad mistakes it seems
deserve another, as goalkeeper Leighton Murray out did his
opponents after winning the ball strangely let in run through
his leg in an effort to dive behind him to collect. You guess
it, he lost control of the ball as Jomo Gordon helped to
embarrass him by slotting the loose ball into an empty net
much to the annoyance of every Harbour View supporter. Three
minutes later the now confident Gordon out ran the defence to
fire home inside the far post and grab the lead as Waterhouse
fans went wild.
Just when it seemed the half
had gone to Waterhouse then is when the game had just begun.
Harbour
View’s resilience surfaced once more in minute 33 when a
Nicholas Dodd freekick from the right was experty headed away
from everyone on the line by the towering leftback Gregory
Simpson to equalise at 2-2. The crowd couldn’t believe the
four goal blitz just after the first half hour as they erupted
in joy. They sat questioning the goalfeast among themselves
when lighting struck.
Gregory Simpson won the ball in
the centre circle, touched the ball gently forward, then
without warning launched a torrid scud-like missile goalwards
at lighting speed. Two midfielders jumped, i am not sure if
towards or away from the bomb, the goalkeepers dives
full-stretch to his left in a vain attempt to get near a goal
scored from the moment it left the foot of Simpson from 41
yards out, only the net was good enough to touch it because of
been placed their firmly before the start of the game.
Surely this is another
contender for goal of the season, following his similar drive
against Seba and that of teammate Donald Stewart in like
manner against Arnett Gardens.
Back to the game, Harbour View
snatches the lead again as both teams continue trading attacks
up to minute 87 when Waterhouse wins a 24 yards away freekick
on the rightside outside the penalty area. Mystified no
defensive wall is setup by the goalkeeper. Guess what, a
hurried clearance by a scrambling defender succeeds in playing
the ball gently in the path of the lethal Jomo Gordon for him
to register a hatrick into an open goal.
The goalkeeper lays prostrate
on the ground, after his diving effort along with a crowd of
players to stop the initial shot. We go to extra time with the
game locked at 3-3.
EXTRA TIME EXPLODES:
Well there was still more drama
left in the script.
All of Waterhouse three
substitutes were dispatch in a frenzy just ten minutes into
the second half in what seemed a last ditch effort to salvage
a result with the strongest Waterhouse contingent against a
largely second string Harbour View unit that came to play all
night. Harbour View introduced their subs on a timely basis
seemingly measured in their approach for the long haul as
Fabian Taylor returning from 10 months of injury made way
after an impressive 72 minutes, goal terrorist Simpson
replaced dehydrated and suffering from cramps than at the last
five minutes Leon Strickland was introduced to test tiring
legs.
Strickland pounced an a well
weighted Loxely Thomas pass after he had demolished the
midfield to dissect the defence expertly and Leon to guide
away from the advancing goalkeeper. With three minutes on the
clock, the Harbour View supporters said yes, finally we
snatched it. Not so soon, said Waterhouse, jumping up after a
aimless long ball was played goalwards that goalkeeper Murray
seemed to have firmly in his grasp.
Only to back pedal in an
un-appropriate “moment of madness”, letting in the alert
Vincent Earle to deflect it into the empty goal and sent the
game into penalty kicks in time added on.
Colourful descriptive words
punctuated the air overhead of the hot-headed Harbour View
supporters, football lovers smiled in utter disbelief at the
bonanza and the “Firehouse Crew” chanted victory cries blessed
by their unexpected joy laced with gifts aplenty from the most
unlikely source, their consistent opponents.
PENALTIES:
Harbour View Players, Coaching
Staff and Management now besides themselves dragged towards
the kicks in a state of disbelief still shocked by the events
recently passed and clearly not in a state of readiness for
anything else on the night bushed the penalties as Waterhouse
reigned triumphant by 4-1 on penalties, lifting the title.

TIVOLI GARDENS SCORES AN EXCITING 3-2 VICTORY OVER HARBOUR
VIEW TO END ROUND TWO.
PREMIER LEAGUE:
Tivoli Gardens playing at home
in front of a large energetic crowd edged a gallant challenge
from ten man Harbour View who had striker Luton Shelton
ejected after only 37 minutes for “ungentlemanly conduct”.
He very sharp looking striker
over-reacted to Referee Hughill Thompson’s call not to caution
defender Dwight Heron after his constant kicking from behind
after the third infringement. Insisting he was being abused
and not protected by the officials, the player protested far
too long. Later in the game Heron too was ejected for
repeating the offence after 84 minutes.
Before the half ended the hard
working Kevin King slotted home his fourth goal of the season
by eluding his markers as the only forward on minute 41. He
earlier headed onto the upright from a Shelton run and
delivery down the left flank. Harbour View though short
staffed looked set to go to the break leading 1-0. Then a free
kick just inside the right corner flag was taken quickly to
find an unmarked Christopher Nicholas on top of the box, he
shrewdly chipped the ball through a wall of players blocking
the sight of goalkeeper Ryan Thompson, into to far corner to
equalise in time added on.
Numerical advantage was better
organised in favour of the home team Tivoli and they duly
dominated the proceedings in the second half. In their period
of dominance Tivoli scored two unanswered goals. Firstly a
push in the back of defender Jermaine Taylor left Roland Deans
with a free shot eight yards from goal that he merely blasted
home. Then an excellent left-sided cross was met by Orane
Simpson between markers to score from six yards after 73
minutes.
Jermaine “Teddy” Johnson graced
the field with telling midfield dribbles but failed to convert
more than once. Oniel “Bigga” Smith once again popped up at
the far post for a corner kick to head home his third goal for
the season, as Harbour View continued to show the fighting
spirit to the end but a man short for almost an hour meant it
was always going to be a tall order as the game ended 3-2.
Science
again-BT and HV draw
History almost repeated itself
on Sunday night. The Stars of the East came from behind to
level the score 2-2 with the Stars of the West in the Wray and
Nephew Premier League match- up at Compound. There was string
of expletives emanating from the vicinty of the JJ possee when
BT extended their lead to 2-0 shortly after the second half
started. As it was in '85 & '86 ,a team was once again sitting
on a 2 goal cushion and with not much time to spare is pure
kiss teeth as the fans of the trailing team started exiting
the venue like at Caymanas Park. In contrast, pandemonium
broke loose in the Roxy Williams stand as colour red fans
erupted in celebration. Michael Jureidini reached for his
bible and started to read two psalms. Ossie D and Stevie G
started cussing the referee. Presie Masters looked up to the
skies for rain; Allah was no where to be found and the mantra
"press ahead Harbour View ,press ahead" subsided. Juicy Bell
rushed over to Daddy and told him to take heart "It's not over
till the fat lady sings".
Sunday was a day of
reminiscence.21 years have passed. It was high five and bear
hugs.It was a reunion of many who had played or spectated in
the '85 &86 epics. At half time DV presented Carl Brown with a
memorabilia DVD of the two historic episodes. Other survivors
present include Peter Prendegast (returned as President of
JFRA on Saturday) and Andrew Pryce this time in the capacity
as coach of BT.Lest we forget Hugh Bailey was represented by
his son Jermaine Bailey who played for BT that night. Others
on the BT match card carried similar surnames bearing uncanny
progeny such as Morgan, Lewis ,Francis& Brown. There was no
time to check the bloodline Peanut Bunny sang the National
Anthem-Clyde Jureidini (coach HVFC '86)winces as a note is
broken.
It was 30 minutes remaining and
the right annex of Harbour View supporters' stand was by now
almost empty. A further 10 minutes passed and the irate fans
were demanding the scalp of the HVFC coachig staff. Suddenly
the belligerence subsided as the word Goal!!!! erupted and
many rushed back to the gate.Harbour View had scored and
trailed 2-1 Another five minutes passed and is pure kiss teeth
again as the trying Blackburn kicked wide of the upright.. One
fan shouted from under the plum tree outside" unoo ah
idiot-cum back outside; Harbour View caan win!!!!".The word
was hardly out of his mouth when then was again shout of
Goal!!! Like the man in Wild Gilbert he rushed back into
Compound ,lifted DV shoulder high" a fi me national coach
this". Harbour View leveled the score 2-2.A statistical
dead-heat There was tears of joy and both sides shook hands.

EPIC BATTLES
OF JAMAICAN FOOTBALL !
HARBOUR VIEW versus BOY'S TOWN; THE RIVALRY CONTINUES
-By Bertram Scott
Of
all the epic battles that have graced the history of Jamaican
football, none is more emotionally charged than the rivalry
developed between Harbour View football club and Boys Town FC.
This Sunday at the Harbour View Mini Stadium, affectionately
called The Compound?, the time honoured tradition continues as
both teams meet for the first time in the Jamaica Football
Federation (JFF) Premier League.
Confidence is high in both
camps, and a fierce battle of attrition is expected at the
Compound. Harbour View, the reigning Caribbean Club champions,
are 11 points in front of their nearest rival in the Wray &
Nephew Premier League, and so the race for the title is all
over bar the shouting. Boys town is also on a crescendo having
just gained promotion to the Premier League after a 12 years
absence, and only days ago clinically knocking-off the
defending League champions, Portmore United 2-1 at Collie
Smith Drive.
Ironically, in the 1994/95 JFF
Federation Cup Quarter-finals, the last time the teams met,
both were under contrasting circumstances. Boys Town had just
finished last in the 1994/95 JFF Premier League, and were
demoted to the KSAFA Major League, and Harbour View were the
winners of the 1994/95 KSAFA Major League, and were promoted
to the 1995/96 JFF Premier League. Harbour View won the game
3-1 on goals from Richard Coke (59' and 61'), and Owen "Busta"
Kirkland, respectively, while Andrew Price scored the
consolation for BT.
Of all the encounters between
the "Stars from the East"? and "The Best from the West", none
is spoken of more passionately by Boy's Town and Harbour View
fans, players, and administrators than the epic struggle of
the 1984/85 KSAFA Major League final at the National Stadium
before an emotionally charged jam-packed crowd. The standing
room only Stadium was lost in a sea of "Colour Red" and
Yellow, and Blue. Many consider that clash to be one of the
most exciting local club game played at the "office".
What made the 1984/85 KSAFA
Major League final so memorable for many is the fact that
boy's Town and Harbour View had met in the two previous Major
League finals, 1982/83, and 1983/84, and in both games the
scores were tied after extra time and decided on penalties.
"The Red Brigade" won on both occasions. Also, in the 1983/84
edition Harbour View led 2-0 with fumes of full time
remaining, and with the Boy's Town supporters well on their
way down Authur Wint Drive, "Colour Red" miraculously
equalized sending the game into extra time and to penalties.
Boy's Town fans that were passing the Little Theatre heard the
thunderous roar of their brave soldiers and knew that
something had gone happily right and hurried back to "The
Office" to witness a remarkable comeback from the brink.
Harbour View fans, on the other hand, reportedly left early to
prepare for championship celebrations in the East.
Andrew "Bowa" Hines, the
sweeper for Harbour View in the 84/85 Final, remembered that
even though they were 3-1 down with about 3 minutes of regular
time remaining, he was very optimistic that they would win
that game, and communicated that energy to Peter Cargill and
the other players. Harbour View equalized with three
unanswered goals by Noel Brissett, Richard Coke, who scored on
his first touch, and Mark Salmon, respectively, giving "The
Stars from the East" a 4-3 aggregate win and the title.
Commenting on his memory of
that game, Carl Brown said, "that was a most memorable game,
but I believe the referee played a little bit too long causing
bickering among our players. As a result, the team lost its
concentration. We lost to a very good Harbour View team that
was going well at the time".
The Harbour champion team of
1984/85 has proven to be ill fated, as 6 of the players and
officials are deceased. They are Peter Cargill, Linval
McKenzie, Wainwright Davis, Noel Brissett, David Reid, and
Roxy Williams. The Coach of the team, Clyde Juredini is now
the General Manager of Harbour View FC, and Manager, Carvel
Stewart, is the current Chairman of Harbour View. The referee
was Winston "Dirks" Campbell. 1984/85 Major League Final

HARBOUR VIEW SCORES EXCITING 2-2 DRAW
AGAINST WATERHOUSE.
After registering their first
draw (1-1) in the season earlier in the week against lowly
Rivoli United at Spanish Town Prison Oval. Oniel “Bigga”
Smith’s 54th minute header saves the blushes as Derrick
Planter’s first half freekick treatened to sidetrack runaway
leaders Harbour View FC.
UNDER 21:
Harbour View edge
Waterhouse by 1-0.
The lone goal scored by
Michily Waul marked his best game for this season as he
finished of a good two man combination of a series of one-two
passes between Kemar Petrekin and himself to place beyond the
reach of the goalkeeper in minute 38th.
PREMIER LEAGUE:
On
a jam packed New Years Day the large crowd streamed into the
Drewsland Stadium for the 5:30pm start to witness the top of
the table clash for vital points and Round Two leadership
honours.
Both teams undefeated in the
Round and jointly holding the leading positions in Round Two
with 22 points each, were eyeing the League leadership race
separated by an eleven (11) point difference in addition to
confirming places in the End of Round Final scheduled for
Sunday, January 22 at the National Stadium.
The combative game was full
of high intensity play, laced with flair and style as Club
supporters were riveted to their seats as Harbour View
dominated the proceedings and Waterhouse hit back on the
counter-attack to generate tension filled moments as Jomo
Gordon came closest in response to the raids launched by
strike partners Luton Shelton and Richard West. Loxely Thomas
timed his arrival perfectly in minute 34 to finish a well
orchestrated build up from Ricardo Smith’s cross that was
headed back into his path by West at the back post. His
thunderous right footer crashed into the roof of the net
before he, arms outstretched, flew away to the corner of the
ground to silence the home crowd until halftime at 1-0.
Enter master of escapism
Kevin Lamey at the break, he makes an almost immediate impact
in minute 54 when Ryan Thompson fails to hold a high cross but
punches it instead effectively keeping the ball alive to see
it won again and played across the area by Damion “Dutty man”
Powell for a now free Lamey to tap home at the unprotected far
post.
Yet another high cross this
time from Richard West found the head of Shelton to power home
from 13 yards past advancing goalkeeper Richard McCallum to
re-establish the lead at 2-1 in minute 79. The game is wide
open in the second half as both teams go “Hell for Leather” as
chances are missed by West as he dives into the six yard box,
Shelton is blocked and Blackburn shoots wide followed by
Thomas close in. Lamey drives a speculative shot well wide,
Powell hits from distance and Gordon is getting closer.
Surprisingly both coaches
keep the game open and the crafty Lamey steals his opportunity
to grab the equaliser in time added on, when closely marked
and his back to goal he creates an overhead kick to catch the
custodian Thompson wrong footed as he attempt to rush of his
line to intercept the play. Too late, too late as Lamey his
teammates and the entire Waterhouse community celebrates the
late strike to gain a 2-2 draw and joint leadership of Round
Two as well as confirming both teams for the second End of
Round Final on 23 points.
Round Two leaves Harbour View
on 50 points, eleven points ahead of the second place Club
Waterhouse on 39 points.
